Tried the tomato and mozzarella salad (capresse?) and it was good even though local tomatoes are not yet in evidence. Wish the place had tablecloths though. However, the noise level makes it diddicult to have conversations across the table. The ceilings are curved and the sound bounces off of it and your words come back to you and so does everyone else's. The food is always outstanding and the staff is professional and inviting. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because it was Mother's Day which meant they needed to add more tables to accommodate all the families, including our family of 10, that wanted to honor their mom's with the best Italian restaurant around. Our server was not good. When I wanted fruit with my sandwich, he said "get the fries, they are the best" when I told him I was a diabetic, he mumbled "I said fries, not pie". He also tried to take my food before I was finished 2 times...saying he was sorry, but they were really crowded and was trying to move his tables along. I guess since we were not drinking alcohol, or having a big dinner we were not of any value to him....We also had the $20 check from Open Table...that really put the icing on the cake. We left a 20% tip, before the discount..because I am a chef and know that tips are your meal ticket (no pun). We were seated near the bar area and there was a very loud and obnoxious behaving couple near our table, so we asked immediately, to be moved. The next table we were placed at, turns out had been reserved so we had to move again (they were very apologetic). The third table was fine but had cold air blowing on us and they kindly turned it down.
It was difficult to decide as each appetizer looked wonderful. The dishes we chose were, eggplant Napolean, a halibut special with risotto, lamb saltombica and pasta with chicken. Every dish was excellent. Food is very good overall - they have a few rough edges (overcooked Salmon on the last visit, skimpy seafood quantities in the seafood pasta), but for the price in Chesterfield it's hard to beat. Great environment - beautiful lighting and decoration. Service is impeccable. It is a little loud on weekend nights but not overwhelming, and not very kid friendly, but these aren't deal breakers.
