  • "My wife in her eighth month of our second pregnancy was full after the steamed pot and my crab stuffed salmon was amazing. It's a great get away for us who could not travel for spring break. The mohito brought me to a warm place with the su. Shining off of the river just outside the windows."

  • "The bread and side salad were wonderful - great Raspberry Vinegarette. But, me and my son both ordered the Caribbean Combo - the sweet mashed potatoes were cold and the crabcake was bone dry, with no sauce served on it. The only good thing on the plate was the coconut shrimp - but there were only 4 of them, so not much "good food" for $25. The service was very good and the location right on the river in GR was beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to a friend, but I would probably suggest that they order something different."

  • "Charley's may have the best happy hour in GR. 4-7 with awesome prices and great apps! The Lobster bisque at lunch was AMAZING. Also, all the appetizers are amazing, too. Lunch is rather quite so it is a great place for an intimate lunch!"

  • "Back in the day when there were very few fine dining choices this restaurant stood out. This time it really fell flat. The valet was nice. The reservation was held and we were seated on time at 7pm on a Saturday. So far so good. Then things started to go awry. We ordered Live Maine Lobster and an Iceberg wedge salad. After about 5 minutes our waitress comes back and states that they sold all of their lobster already and were also out of salad. Well then... that was a new one for me. So I ordered crab legs instead and had a Ceaser salad. The crab was of good flavor and consistency but it was not hot. Not at all worth the price paid. It was just an ok meal. There are many better options in the same area."

  • "Way too expensive. 23.00 to add s lobster tail, really? I understand I was at a upscale restaurant, but 101.00 for two people without dessert or appetizers is ridiculous. I doubt I will set there again."

  • "We had any reasons to celebrate so chose this restaurant as it has always been a very special place for me. Many great memories associated with each visit. The menu selections were outstanding in every category. So nice to go someplace where everyone can have something different that appeals to them. Very happy to see they even had a gluten free menu with many delicious options. Service was very good and we never felt rushed, even on a Saturday night. Can't wait for the next special occasion to celebrate here again."

  • "Sunset dining an excellent value - OK to come at 5:45pm as long as your order is in before 6pm - Salmon said "broiled" - and "no substitutions please" - but the server said - "How would you like your Salmon?" and I asked - "May I have it blackened?" - and she said "Sure" - it was superb."

The cost/quality is on the higher side and was surprised that even our 2yr old grandson received a significant charge for the slight amount of his meal.   • "The bread was a highlight for our lunch visit! I know from experience that I should have went with ordering sea food but I didn't see anything on the menu that day that called out to me. I ordered the prime rib French dip and at my wife order the beef tips as recommended by the waitress after she found out the kitchen was out of chicken tortellini. The prime rib looked and tasted more like well done roast beef and the au jus was very salty. My wife's stake tips we tougher than Jake and were not able to be eaten. The steak tips were removed from the bill which was greatthe caramelized top of the dessert with is the best was over caramelized and tasted like burnt marshmallows. We do not know if we will be back even with a gift card."

  • "My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Charley's. I had read some mixed reviews and was nervous - but it was an amazing experience! We were pleasantly surprised with complimentary valet parking (though the parking lot isn't that big, so I'm not sure why they need it) and were quickly seated. Our server was very pleasant and our drinks came quickly. The food was hot and delicious. It's definitely not something we can afford to do on a regular basis, but for special occasions, it's one of our new favorites."

  • "I was in Grand Rapids for the first time for a conference. Brought the family and was looking for somewhere special to eat. I found Charlie's Crab on the road ninja app and made a reservation online. Everything was wonderful, we were sat at a table by the window which was nice looking at all the tall buildings and water. Our waitress was wonderful! Food was delicious! The only thing my husband would have wanted was for less time between each part of our meal."

  • "The valet had issues. My wife has a torn ACL and had to walk through snow banks to get to the entrance. Max, the waiter was pretentious and short on service. A waitress dropped an item off of her tray as she went by. It splashed onto my jacket. The manager was a bright spot for service that night. Our water glasses stayed empty for a long while twice. Our food had set under a heat lamp for too long. It was very tasty, but dry. The coat check seems to be self service as there was nobody there when we came or left. I would not want customers wandering around in that room. The valet brought us someone else's car. He asked if we were sure that it was not ours."

  • "We made a reservation for 6 p.m. Valentine's Day Friday night. Upon arrival - there was a "bumper - to -bumper " traffic jam ( either awaiting valet parking or not able to find a parking spot). We found alternate parking and walked to the restaurant past @ least 1/2 a dozen other patrons sitting and waiting to park. We sat at the bar and had a drink - our name was called & we were seated. Our waitress was serving multiple tables. We ordered the surf & turf - our steak was over-cooked , but not worth the hassle of sending it back."

  • "My wife grew up in Maine. We lived in the San Francisco Bay area for years before moving to Grand Rapids. We have a high expectation and appreciation for good seafood and food in general. This is the only legitimate seafood restaurant we have found in this area so far. The king crab was served perfectly cooked and fresh. The stuffed salmon was excellent in flavor but a bit overcooked. We were both very unimpressed with the rice side dish. It lacked flavor and was very dry. The service was adequate but a bit slow although in fairness we were there at a slow time of day, 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon. Overall, for this area, a pretty good seafood dining experience."

  • "I had two of the special martinis (the pear and the raspberry). I found both much too sweet and asked if simple syrup had been added after ordering the 2nd (different one). The bartender said 'yes'. I would not have ordered either one had I known that in advance and had to add ice cubes multiple times to dilute the sugar. I would recommend including that information on the menu. Next time I'll send them back and have them either re-made without the syrup or order something else. Also, the Yukon mashed potatoes were pretty 'blah', and the coldwater lobster dry & tough. We've had wonderful meals in the past....unfortunately, this was not one of them."

  • "We had no problem going to the bar to wait an extra 20 minutes for our 8:45PM reservation, it happens on busy nights. Once we were seated we were in no hurry. Our server was pleasant but was in no hurry to take our order for the main course. We placed the meal order at 9:45PM and didn't receive our two dinners until 10:50PM. At that time my wedge of cauliflower (extra side item) did not come with the gouda cheese on it as described on the menu. I sent that back. When it did rearrive the cheese was ice cold. I mean cold. I sent it back and told her to take it off my bill since I was so irritated at this time. The manager did come over but that was it, they took $3.50 off of our $110 plus tip bill. Terrible. Two parties walked out."

I left a special note on open table about celebrating my moms valentine birthday, but they never mentioned it or acted like they knew about it. however you can't beat the food, wine, ambiance and service at this restaurant.   • "My husband booked a table for Valentine's Day. I liked the complementary parking. There was a wait when we first came in, maybe due to the amount of people. They never offered coat check service as i would expect from them. They sat us in a small table which i wasn't very happy with. I was glad the waiter/waitress was nice and moved us. The place looked small and a bit crowded. The food was just so-so. Nothing truly special able it. Although, the bar makes an awesome Mango Mojito. Overall, i think it was a good idea to try at least one. I'm glad we did because i was meaning to try them out."

  • "My husband and I decided to try Charlie's Crab for our Valentine's Day/Early Birthday (for me) dinner plans. As to be expected for a Valentine's Day, it was PACKED! The parking lot was full but, thankfully, the valet service was nice respectful. Even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait an extra 30 minutes for our table, which was the time they said they were running behind. Once seated, we had a WONDERFUL waitress who made us feel like we were her only table. Though the drinks, appetizers and soups were quick in coming, the main course took a while. However, the food was all delicious and it was topped off with a yummy dessert. Overall, even with the craziness that is Valentine's Day, it was a lovely dining experience."

  • "We've been to CC 3 times in the last year. Many of the staff were not in good moods/very stressed and it showed. Because it was a busy Valentines evening? The 1st witnessing of this was the challenges the valet parking attendants were having in finding parking spaces. Due to the snow banks they have lost about 20 parking spaces. They were very polite & friendly to us though! At the hostess stand there were 2 hostesses there and they were very stressed looking & acting. This did transfer to some of the diners that were checking in. The hostess that sat us at our table was not in a happy mood & seemed confused as to where to sit us. Our server & food was excellent! A manager brought our food out & apologized for the lengthy delay."

  • "Stay away on a busy night. The restaurant was heavily over booked and the food and service were some of the worst we have had anywhere. The table next to us walked out after an hour and twenty minutes of waiting and we were very close to doing the same. Management knew there were issues but never came to say a word. After over an hour of waiting after ordering, I would hope any competent management staff would be around doing whatever they could to make the experience better. I also know it wasn't the wait staff's fault per se as the kitchen seemed to be running behind, but our waitress just disappeared after reassuring the tables in the section that food would be "another 5 minutes maximum". Which was code for 45. We will never return."

  • "Very good waitress named Liz. We had appetizers which were excellent. The marthas's vinyard salad is always excellent. Entrees were good. Molton fudge dessert was.....well....orgasmic. For this special occassion we didn't feel rushed and felt very comfortable amongst others. A lovely early evening Supper!"
