Diner Reviews
  • "Heard great things about Charcut...made a point of trying it while in Calgary, especially since Alberta is known for beef. Dinner started off well with superb appetizers and salads, and we were looking forward to a 5 star meal, highlighted by an awesome, tender, juicy, grass fed, properly aged piece of AAA Alberta beef. Boy, were we disappointed with our New York Strip Loin for two, prepared medium-rare, priced at around $80. At that price one expects the best, both in terms of quality and preparation. We were salivating with anticipation, but at the first bite, our glee turned into gloom, because the steak was tough, cardboard-like, dry, well-done and hard to swallow...inexcusable because meat was supposed to be Charcut's forte!"

  • "The prime rib is great (as well as their other appies) and the service is excellent. It is a bit loud so it can be difficult to have good conversation, but all in all, a good experience. Will return for certain!"

  • "We dined there during Stampede. We found the food to be just OK. The prices were high for the quality/quantity of food we received. Our server was very knowledgeable."

  • "Ambience and service are fantastic. Our server was very social and friendly, as well as knowledgeable with the menu. Great beer and wine section. Food servings were quite large for a restaurant of this particular tier. Thanks for a wonderful experience!"

  • "Love it! Never been disappointed with the food or service!"

  • "This was our third visit to CHARCUT, but our first time sampling the house-made sausage! The bar rose admirably to the challenge of making me a delicious and fruity but non-alcoholic drink! Have not yet had anything I didn't adore here!"

  • "My US-based family was blown away from the awesome cuisine made the Chef Jessica and the culinary team. The rabbit terrine was tasty (first time for us to try it!) and the mortadella and the house made sausage were divine! Our men ordered the 9oz burger and was very impressed with the taste and the ladies got the chimichurri steak which was fabulous as well. Would have loved to see Chef Connie or Chef John but we were equally delighted and honored to meet Chef Jessica - and we're looking forward to the opening of the charbar next year! Kudos all around. Our Washington based relatives were ecstatic that we chose Charcut for dinner! Thank you for the wonderful meal."

  • "The food and service were both outstanding. The best charcuterie board, and the most amazing carrot cake that I`ve ever had."

  • "Great spot to watch the end of the Stampede Parade, but the food is the attraction at this restaurant. Tables set up along Centre St near 9 Av provide the perfect spot for parade and people-watching. The lunch special featuring sandwich of the day, Parmesan fries, soup/salad and 2 warm chocolate chip cookies keeps me going back - delicious every time! The service is consistently attentive and friendly."

  • "Charcut is our favourite place for birthday lunches because of the variety, tasty, fresh, and meticulously done food! We were taken care of from the moment we got in to the time we checked out and we always enjoy going to Charcut because of the stellar service and food! Drinks are great too but unfortunately we can't indulge as we have to head back to work. It's 5-stars all the way! Thank you!"

  • "Food was fantastic from appetizer through dessert. Loved the fresh herbs they used. Service was fantatic. Never felt rushed but everything came at just the right time."

  • "Although a bit overpriced, it was justified with great food. The dinner for two we ordered (NY strip steak) was cooked exactly to our liking. And it was a whole lotta food, we could not finish it. You will definitely not leave hungry!"

  • "The food here is fantastic all of the time, however, they have a top-quality affordable lunch special that gets you in and out in 45 minutes, and even comes with a bag of freshly made cookies. I love this place for lunch."

  • "We order "charcut board" and some cheese as an appetizer and it was super. Then some of us order prime ribs and I order the chimichurri steak. 100% satisfaction."

  • "Restaurant offers very tasty food that could make the dining experience quite memorable. The noise level, unfortunately spoils the experience. It's so loud we can't have a decent conversation."

  • "My girlfriend and I had come there for dinner tuesday June 24th. We had an amazing dinner. The food was exceptional. Not to mention a great server who made our time there much more laid back and relaxed. Her name was Aisha I believe. Will definitely be back to try more of the great food and wine."

  • "I am a big fan of CHARCUT and the food is ALWAYS amazing. We appreciate the updating menu - but when you remove amazing items like the pretzels - we were sad. As one who continually returns, having some consistency on great items is king."

  • "Love the freshly made juices always a must have if you don't want to have wine. Very accomodating since I'm gluten, dairy, and nut free person. Enjoyed the Daily Rotisserie. Spit-Roasted and Smoked with Homemade Parmesan fries - less the parmesan since I can't have dairy. I have to admit I've had a taste of the parmesan fries and they are really good! Wish they had a gluten free cookie to go :("

  • "Went here for my boyfriends birthday. The food was good but I felt that the server didn't explain the menu very well. The sides are HUGE and didn't realize that half orders are available so we had a tremendous amount of wasted food...in my opinion, the servers should tell you if you're ordering too much food for in this case 2 people. Another restaurant to scratch off the list. I wouldn't rush to go back."

  • "My husband and I went To Charcut to celebrate our 10th anniversary. It was a perfect choice. The food was great, service was amazing. We'll definitely go back, and not just for special occasions."

  • "Charcut has an amazing poutine - if you are a poutine lover, you must try it. I did think that their menu was a bit limited. There wasn't a whole lot of options on there and not really anything "healthy" - even their sides were pretty fatty. This isn't a place to go if you are watching your diet carefully. It was delicious, but unlike some other places there wasn't a lot to pick from. I did enjoy their wine menu and drink menu, lots of good choices there. My dessert was lovely. It is pretty loud in the restaurant, so not really a good "romantic" spot, more of a go out with friends spot."

  • "One of the finest meals I have had the pleasure of experiencing, unique food, great service, relaxed atmosphere, excellent wine. A little pricey but as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. A great place to enjoy my wife's company on her birthday. Will be back."

  • "Well, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with the dining experience at Charcut. I had one local and two out of town guests (New York & Houston) that I wanted to impress with a good 'Western' steak dinner. First of all, it was hard to find a steak on the menu, except for the 25 oz to be shared between two people. Secondly, the appetizers were extremely overpriced and lastly, we all ordered the prime rib on the servers recommendation. We all agreed, nothing more than average. Marc, our server, did a great job and was the best part of the meal at Charcut."

  • "Was my first visit here and had heard read good reviews. Have to say was somewhat disappointed - sausage burger was salty and very dry."

  • "Consistently reliable, fast and predictably good food. Love the option of eating in the windows of the hotel lounge. Great service."

  • "Had the beets with house made goat cheese. The beets were heavenly, but the goat cheese was incredibly salty. The main was the butcher steak with chimichurri which was fantastic, but the pickled vegetables were also terribly salty. The service was amazing though!"

  • "This is a great location for dinner before going to a show at Calgary Theater or EPCOR. The servers and staff are always friendly and very helpful in picking out the best options. Would recommend that everyone should check this place out at least once."

  • "Interesting choice. Food was delicious, but there was so much. Dinner was reasonably price and our waiter ( Joshua ) made it a truly great dining experience. Everyone was very friendly and helpful"

  • "Their duck fat poutine is always the best, and their hot chocolate is the best I have ever tasted. I was only disappointed because I finished it in five minutes and wanted more! For the main we had the NY steak for 2, but it was a tad expensive ($36/person, min 2 people) for just being a steak with arugula and a roasted garlic with no sides. It was cooked perfectly though, and flavorful enough to not need sauce. I would probably return for lunch as it seems more reasonably priced with more food. "

  • "I've been there a few times for business dinners and personal events as well. I've always been impressed with the food and service. The ambience is great, lively but classy. The restaurant is modern but has a vintage feel. The butcher shop/smoke room in the back of the restaurant is a great conversation piece. The bartender makes a great old-fashioned. I would eat there every week is I could. "

  • "We had heard much about this restaurant and it's chefs. I was surprised that it was so big and busy as somehow we had expected it to be smaller and more rustic. Food was excellent in a fun, very vibrant setting. Not the place though for a quiet, romantic dinner out."

  • "The menu is very unique and I love that they cure their own meats in house. Very unique food items and still caters to regional cuisine and local produce. Well done."

  • "The food was absolutely yummy! Menu always changes based on whats available.. Good sign! Also the meat is local farms which is a nice touch. Definitely bold flavors that are not so common. Really good food and a cool place with good atmosphere! Meat is the best part here! Lots of beers and wines too."

  • "Delicious food ~ slight hiccup at the beginning of our dining experience with our server, but we clarified what we told with hostess who seemed to have chatted with her. Very impressed that the server came back to the table and apologized for the error. After that everything was perfect and delicious, HIGHLY RECOMMEND."
