  • "An over-hyped restaurant that relies on Calgarians' fascination with something new and flashy. Utterly disappointing from the moment we stepped in the door to the moment we left. I must say though, if I wanted to see "The Food Network" blasted on a supersized TV screen while eating a piece of sausage I could have stayed at home. To be honest, our experience was limited. We had a waitress that was focused on discussions with her peers, and so after waiting for 55mins for our first drinks we simply up and left. Teatro's was wonderful though!"

  • "We weren't impressed. Our waiter was pushy and forgetful. We ordered a glass of wine, and he told us our selection was "terrible" and told us he would bring us another wine. We ordered the first wine because we had had it before and liked it. He didn't even give us a choice just walked away. He asked us 4 times what type of water we were drinking.... and we were the only table in the restaurant!! He talked a lot, describing wines we didn't even ask about. The food was simple, but expensive. $26 for a flat piece of flank steak and a small pot of fries....really? By the end of our entree we just wanted to get out of there. But our waiter insisted we look at the dessert menu, even after we told him we were done and wanted the bill."

  • "I made a reservation 10 days in advance for 5:30 pm on a Thursday for 2. Initially we were shown right next to a table of 6 in a virtually empty restaurant. I explained we would be out before 7 as we had theatre tickets. The hostess was clearly put out and after checking gave us another table- not great either. I asked how to get a 2 top in the window area another time and she was vague. When we left at 6:45 3 of the 4 2tops in the window area were still empty . The waitress was pushy when we declined alcohol and asked why not...what were we doing? I am the guest and I get to make choices. I was looking forward to going to Charcut and thought the food was great but will think twice before going back."

  • "Dinner was a disappointment. Brought an out if town guest for a special night out. Server was charming but food very slow to reach our table. Ordered salads & prime rib to share between 2 of us. Salads arrived & we ate them during the half hour it took to get our meat. Beef was tough and had huge hunks of fat! I love a well marbled cut but this had two large fat chunks the size of an egg (and they charge by weight). They ended up comping dinner & offering dessert which was good of them. I'll go back but likely just for express lunch. And they still use cheap, white napkins that shed on your clothing! They need to change a few things...I'd hate to see this restaurant go downhill."

  • "We love coming here. The food is excellent and we always go for the charcut board-a signature dish with a sampling of all the in house made meats. This time however the board was lacking: no crackers, no pickles, lacking in meat variety as well as portion size and there was excessive amounts of fat on all of the meat. Nonetheless, every other time we have been here it has been incredible, so I am hoping this was just a one time flaw and we will be back, as we love the place, the insatiable food, high quality local vegetables and variety of good character beers."

  • "Great food, and our waitress Amanda was terrific. Great wine, beer and cocktail selection. Poor service by the hostesses at the door; checking our coats and seating us took almost 10 minutes. I waited a few minutes after walking in to be acknowledged, and after giving them my name, they were interrupted multiple times, and ignored me to speak to other clients, a manager, to take a phone call without acknowledging me. There were 3 hostesses at the front when we arrived, I thought at least one of them could have seated us quickly. Just not so great first impression - but the rest of the meal and experience was terrific. They won us over."

  • "We had a nice server but she failed to do a taste check or refill our beverages throughout the evening. I ended up asking 2 other servers throughout the night for refills and our bill at the end of the night. It's worth it to note we went mid-week and the resto was not terribly busy. Still had a nice time but better service would have left me with a more positive impression for my first time there."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience - the atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. We had the meat board to start - which was amazing. All the meats are made in house and the flavors are mouth watering. The men had the Prime rib which was done to their liking done and very tasty. Ladies had the evening special which was halibut in a lemon wine sauce - presentation was great and halibut was cooked perfect. Dessert was amazing as well. Staff were friendly and service was spot on. All in all we would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I was excited to try Charcut so when our next ladies night came up I pushed to have our dinner here. While the service was good, our food took over 50 minutes to come out and when it did finally come out, all of our side dishes were stone cold. They got sent back and didn’t come back out again until we were almost done our meals. Very frustrating and disappointing. The waitress apologized but didn’t offer anything to mediate our situation. This has affected my opinion of Charcut and with so many high quality restaurants in the Core, I don’t plan on settling on somewhere just mediocre."

  • "When I first got to the restaurant and saw the complete make-over of the menu, I was worried. Most of my favourite dishes were gone. I thought "oh no, this place is sliding". However, I was VERY wrong! The new menu items are fantastic! The escarole salad is amazing, with the soft poached egg on top to blend in all of the flavours. The charcuterie board is still the best value for money - and remains the best of all of the charcuterie I have experienced all over the world. Chef Connie DeSouza knows what she's doing! I will keep coming back, even though the noise level gets overwhelming at times. The food is worth it."

It was so noisy that you could hardly carry on a conversation with other people at your table and it was very difficult to hear the waitress talking to you. Sorry, won't be back."

  • "This was an incridble evening: An amazing server who was very knowledgable, shared stories about the wineries, and explained the food concept. Presentation in Family Style dishes made the evening very conversational. Food was outstanding with the charcuterie plate being a highlight. The ribeye was cut up in pieces and presented on a wooden board together with the pork and tasted amazing. All in all a great evening and a wonderful dinner!"

  • "I recently chose Charcut for a lunch meeting and we both tried the lunch special given that it could all be had in 45 minutes. It was closer to an hour but we were there right at noon so it was expected to run a bit long. Overall, the food and service was very good and the portions spot on for lunch, neither too much or too little. My only complaint was the pork roast was a little dry and was served in bit of a watery liquid but it was corrected with the roasted lemon wedge it came with. The lunch all at once represents good value and the service was friendly and attentive. I recommend the house soda which was really refreshing and the coffee is unusually good for a meat centric restaurant."

  • "Had a nooon reservation with an important business colleague. I was seated in the restaurant about 10 to 12 when I arrived. At 10 minutes AFTER 12, my coleague sent me a text message asking when I would get to the restaurant. When he arrived at noon, the host at the front told him they could not find my reservation and they had him sit at the front and wait. I had been sitting waiting in the restaurant for 20 minutes. He'd been sitting at the front entrance for about 10 minutes. No apology or acknowledgement from the host or manager when I went out front to retrieve him. Nice place, good food, good serving staff, but unacceptable for hosting for business lunches if they can't manage a reservation for two people who arrive separately."

  • "Very poor food; pigs head tasted like cheap garlic sausage, Italian smoked sausage served with half a raw chili, under seasoned steaks, undercooked sides, unmatched accompaniments including whole roasted garlic bulb with lemon, sweet bacon. Cocktails average; far too much ginger in signature cocktail to even taste food afterwards. Wine was slim pickings and very overpriced local Pinot.. Would not recommend."

  • "In a word, top notch! I love dining here and for lunch, this is hands down - the BEST place to be. For us who are under the gun for lunch breaks, the Lunch-All-At-Once offering is heaven sent. It is true to its promise of having to be in and out in 45 minutes. Of course, it goes without saying that the food offering is local, in season, organic, home made and really, really delicious! I have brought some new group of friends over to try Charcut and again, they were all in awe and was raving of the service and food that they experienced here. The co-owner's visit always give joy to us as well. Congratulations for always setting the bar high. You have loyal diners with us for sure! Thank you for a well prepared meal and great service!"
