I had the fabulous chick pea veggie burger and my carnivore husband had the beef burger. We were both thorough delighted with the presentation, portion, and taste of everything that we ordered. The apple strudel for dessert was unconventional in its appearance but our palettes were thrilled. Everything about Charcoal exceeded our expectations and they lived up to their billing - at least for lunch - of serving delicious food in generous portions at reasonable prices. Add great service to that and you have a winner - it is Charcoal! Plus the neighborhood is quiet with ample street parking. The crab cake was overcooked after we waited longer than expected to get them. We brought guests from out-of-town here because the menu is diverse enough to please most tastes, including foodies. Everyone enjoyed their food. Good wine selections by the glass. Prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable wait staff. New seasonal menu items were great, especially the wild mushroom gnocchi and the barramundi with crab risotto. Rather than wait for a table we sat at the bar, which turned out to be surprisingly comfortable.
The food was so deliciousmthat we returned the next evening. Our choices were bacon
wrapped dates, a thin cracker with lox, butter salad, sea bass, short
ribs ( which were one evening's special) and a wonderful bittersweet chocolate dessert. The

The food is just wonderful, a very fine wine list and cocktail selection. Service is attentive but not intrusive. One of the best salads ever ! The salmon was okay although it could use a little more flavor. Mashed potatos were average. The caramel pecan tart with vanilla ice cream was presented to me for my birthday at no charge. It was amazing and big enough for 2! The restaurant has a vibrant energy with a sophisticated decor. The waitstaff was courtesy & attentive. The first course was delicious, we shared the bacon wrapped figs & salmon tartar. But our pre-theatre dinner was quite good. Salads are fresh and well presented; tuna tartare was delicious; pasta dishes were also excellent.
