The chef owners are brothers, and are very inventive with their dishes. We have never had a bad meal there, and that speaks volumes about how much we enjoy this eating establishment."

  • "Been going there for breakfast for a few years and beer made it for dinner despite many people recommending it. Finally pulled the trigger and it was incredible. Decided to be adventurous and order things I wouldn't normally. Pigs face appetizer was delish. Don't worry. Doesn't come out as an actual pigs face although that would've been hilarious. Got a small pasta dish that was decent. I don't really like pasta which is why I only say decent. Halibut covered in some kind of mushroom which I normally hate and it was incredible. Can't wait to go again."

  • "We went to Charcoal to celebrate my birthday and I could not have been happier with the food or the service. We made reservations early in the week for the weekend. We had tried to go earlier in the year on a spur of the moment night out and were disappointed to discover that the place is pretty booked on the weekends. Good for them bad for us. The server was very attentive and asked us questions and made some recommendations. We did have our kids with us but I believe they are a little more adventurous as far as food goes so this may not be the place for every kid but they were willing to accomodate them. We will be back!"

  • "We have often times tried unsuccessfully to get a reservation at Charcoal BYOB. It was always booked at the time we wanted so this time we dined earlier. It was worth the effort. The seating was immediate. The service was very good and the food was excellent. Our salads, Salt Roasted Celery Root, apple, walnuts, blue cheese, was wonderful and the main course even better. How can we top this, well with a desert. I had the Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut, bourbon caramel sauce. What a treat. You will enjoy your dinner here."

Also they were very accommodating of my wheat sensitivity and I had one of the best gluten free pastas I have ever had. My husband couldn't even tell the difference. My husband loved his home made doughnut for dessert. All in all a wonderful experience!"

  • "Very creative food that is not too precious. Beef cheeks and the celeriac salad were wonderful starters. Pastas were probably the best part of the meal--the bacon bolognese and unique coffee carbonara were incredibly delicious and satisfying, and we only ordered half portions! Entrees of chicken and scallops were excellent with perfectly composed accompaniments. The made-to-order cinnamon brioche donuts for dessert were the best we've had in a year, which made us want to come back for breakfast to have them again! Service is knowledgeable and polished, yet low key. Maybe the ambiance could use a bit of creativity beyond the austere decorations. A very cool place without having to travel to wd-50 in NYC for!"

  • "We had a table in the window for Sunday brunch. The food was very good, although the plates were basic. If you order pancakes you get only a plate with two pancakes, not even an attempt to plate nicely. A must have is the cinnamon desert donut. Spectacular. No unusually interesting choices but good brunch basics."

  • "Love that this place is BYO. We ordered buffalo pork cheeks ($16), which came out as two boneless buffalo wing-types with minced celery and carrots and sauce on top. Very tasty, but the price tag was a little much for just two bites. We then ordered the Marsala pasta, which was awesome, and the Rattatore (sp?) pasta, which was a little too smoky. We finished with the Griggstown Chicken, which is fried chicken and had amazing flavor. Would definitely recommend the chicken and Marsala pasta, and the buffalo pork cheeks (despite the price tag). All in all our meal was delicious!"

  • "Four of us went for breakfast on a Sunday mid morning. It was a girls day out. We all had some type of omelets. Each of us really enjoyed our dishes. Service was great. Our coffees and other drinks were refilled promptly, our waiter was so attentive (but not obtrusive) and checked back with us to see if everything was okay. I would suggest making reservations (which we had) as there was a large number of parties waiting for tables."

  • "Valentine's weekend dinner: Our food was divine. Our view of the twilight river perfect. The one drawback is that, like most restaurants -- including the NYC ones which this menu resembles more than the usual rural river fare -- which serve truly interesting and indulgent food, the portions were elegant and healthy and sufficient -- read SMALL if you are pigs like us, LOL. Even when the menu gives the choice of Small or Large Plates, the Large is medium-small. So we just kept ordering. :-) When you can't look at one more Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken or another over-sloppy pasta dish, the prices for such beautifully-presented, creative food are fair. Try the Asian-y duck and the pork cheeks; do not miss the Rock Octopus."

  • "I have been going to Charcoal BYOB for more than 3 years and each time I go it's a unique and delicious experience. The chefs take pride in their work and use local ingredients to make their delicious dishes POP! Their use of new and creative cooking techniques allows for a gastronomical experience that rivals some of the best restaurants in New York City. In fact, I recently ate at one of New York Time's Top 10 Restaurant in 2013 -- with a similar progressive menu -- and they could benefit from a few pointers from the chefs at Charcoal. Chefs Mark, Eric, and their sous chef Jared are a dynamic team whose food creations will wow even the most distinguishing palate."
