  • "If one is to be successful in the restaurant world you must have these basic things. One, great food, two, great service, and three, great prices. The food was way too salty! The Filet Mignon was tenderized with MSG I believe, green beans were cold, Grouper was well cooked, but the big problem with all these so called "high end" places is that they charge an arm and a leg for small ala carte entre"s. Liquor prices were unaffordable to a middle class patron. Finally, go to Outback, you'll save a bunch of money, steak will be just as good, and you'll have money left over for a large Strollo's Lighthouse Ice!"

  • "My steak was cooked to a medium well when I asked for medium, just a few minutes to long but was tender and tasted great. My wife had the Chilean sea bass which was wonderful. It was served over Risotto, just fabulous. The server (Michael) was very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to our needs. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and we were not disappointed. The place itself is easy to find and beautiful inside. Overall, a very nice dinning experience and a must try."

  • "Calamari was cooked perfectly and the dipping sauces that accompanied it were excellent. The 12 ounce filets were perfectly cooked, and the char sauce and red wine sauce are my favorites. Mashed potatoes were great. I always order a seasonal cocktail and haven't disliked one yet. Great place to eat out any night of the week. Worth every penny!"

  • "HAVE ENJOYED CHAR BOTH LOCATIONS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND HAVE ALWAYS SAID YUMMM. THIS LAST VISIT WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT.. THE POPOVERS WERE COLD. THE STEAK WAS COLD WITH GRIZZLE AND TASTELESS ,TOLD THE WAITER BUT HE DID NOT COMMENT.. .THE COW!!! THE LYONAISE POTAOES WERE DRIED.. THE RESTAURANT WAS NOT BUSY SO COULD NOT BLAME ON THE KITCHEN. WILL GO BACK AGAIN AND HOPE THIS WAS A ONE TIME UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE. ALWAYS RECOMMENDED CHAR BUT NOW VERY HESITANT."

  • "Made reservations very easily on open table for this past Saturday night (6pm) arrived a little earlier and everything was set, ready to go. My guest and I decided to have a drink at the bar first. The evening was very good from the start. Food was delicious, drinks came quickly, waitress was very good. I took friends out for showing my appreciation for a home project we recently completed. So I knew it was an expensive night and I was ready for it. I can't say anything bad about my experience at Char other than just be ready to open the wallet. It's an expensive evening but as long as your willing and aware Char is a most for a nice night out or special occasion."

  • "Restaurant was very nice. everything was clean and my wife and I were met at the door by very courteous staff. I had made reservations with a request for a quiet corner of the restaurant and they were able to accommodate. I even had flowers sent to the restaurant a head of time and they were nicely arranged when we arrived. The food was very good and displayed nicely. The service was perfect. They were always available yet not overbearing. Everything was great and I will be back again and will also recommend."

Ordewred the Cowboy Ribeye - which should be full of flavor but sadly was not. If you are going to charge those prices for steak - fine - but deliver quality which makes me feel ok about the price.......Appetizers were good - probably the best part of the meal. Side dishes of Sauteed spinach ond mashed potatoes - were uninspired and nothing special. overall - disappointed."

  • "The good. Service was attentive, table ready when we arrived, bread choices terrific, food tasty. Steak done to order. The not so good. Portions small. I had the grouper which was very good but the piece was small for the $27 price. The asparagus which I shared with my husband were tough and had some sauce on them that spoiled the taste. The glass of wine was tiny! The special arugula salad with berries and macadamia nuts was bitter with only 4 berries and 3 nuts. Prices are high and the amount of food small per serving. Every thing is alacarte."

  • "Unfortunately, my filet mignon was served with a small pool of blood. I ordered it oscar style. The crab left a lot to be desired. I usually prefer lumps of crab meat but this was presented with small bits of crab swimming in bearnaise sauce. The 'baby green beans' lacked seasoning as did the garlic mashed potatoes. At least my steak was cooked to order."

  • "I received a gift card to Char and finally got to go there on 6/26. I was not disappointed. I had the roasted vegetable appetizer, my husband had the clams. Both were delicious. For dinner I had filet mignon and my husband had the cowboy steak. We shared sauted spinach and potatoes au gratin. The service, the food, all were tops in my book. Very relaxing atmosphere, easy on the eyes. Would definitely go again."

  • "For a graduation dinner with teenagers, it is a fabulous place, with flames and mystery and excitement. The wait staff were great. I was expecting the food to be more amazing, but it did not wow me. Having to pay extra for sides seemed a bit much - and they were not something to write home about. The bill was hefty. Overall, we had a great time, because the teens were pumped."

  • "Very overpriced . Out food came & two meals out of the four were either overcooked or raw. Sent both back & one came back fine. The other one was still raw. We asked for a different meal. The manager never came over nor did our waitress, another wait staff helped us. When the bill came not only was there no deduction, we were charged more for the new meal. When we said something to the manager on the way out his response was " I'm sorry you has a bad experience," That's it. A waste of our time & money. Go to Danny; in Red Bank much better food & worth your $."

  • "Char is a great Steak and Seafoood restaurant that is beautifully decorated. The staff is very professional and everyone who works there is beautiful too. The Staek is great and the creamed spinach is the best i have tasted anywhere. There is an extensive wine list and the seafood is always fresh. It is a great spot for groups or a romantic dinner for two. You can also sit at the bar and enjoy a fresh seafood tower while watching the latest sports. The bar/lounge is upscale but not stuffy."

  • "This was now my 2nd time there, and since the food the first time was good we tried it again. It was so overpriced for sub pare food. Our oysters were so small they should of spent less time on the great presentation and more time finding bigger oysters. The fried calamari was over cooked and our steaks did not come out as ordered. That was the best part of our meal though. Two of us had desserts that were just okay, nothing worth running back for. Our bill was $250+ for two of us and would rather get amazing food then over paying for food because it's in Red Bank."

  • "There's no real other steakhouses in the area so this is probably one of the best in the area. However it isn't great and it is not cheap. The "family" style sides were not family style, they were "for 2". If I get a steak other than a steakhouse, I know you always order one "degree" under what you want. At steakhouses, you order correctly. Don't do that here. And even then the steaks were inconsistent. We had 3 people, all order the ribeye medium rare. One came out medium, one came out medium-well, one came out well. We sent it back and after 20 mins(?!?) they brought another that was correct and gave us a free dessert but I would've rather had it correct to begin with. Unfortunately there are no other decent steakhouses in the area."

  • "The food was great, our server was terrific and everyone was else who works there did a wonderful job. The only problem was that our food was brought to the wrong table and they proceeded to put it on the table. They realized the mistake and took the food off of that table and then put it on ours. I didn't say anything, but that kind of bothered me. Just the issue of taking food from one table to the other is very unappealing. I have no idea what is on that table or if someone touched a plate with our food. It's just very unappetizing."

  • "We went to Char for my husband's birthday. We had never been there before and were both looking forward to it. Since it was a Thursday night, the restaurant was not crowded. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. We got a table upstairs which was very nice. Our server was fairly attentive and was usually no more than an glance away. We never felt rushed, which I like very much in a restaurant where I'm paying premium prices. Unfortunately, from our point of view, the food was not as good as the prices we were charged. We have been to other restaurants (mostly in NYC) which charge similar prices for a meal and the food was much better. We were also surprised that there was no sommolier considering the extensive wine menu."
