This is an awesome restaurant! My
husband had the 12 it NY strip and I had Cajun grilled mahi-mahi. Both were delicious! The steak was Cooked perfect and melted in his mouth. The mahi-mahi was made with mango pineapple salsa and it was perfect too. We completed our meal with molten lava cake which was soon yummy! We really enjoyed our dinner and plan to go back again."

Tried this restaurant because an
ad in the local paper intrigued me. I was delighted to find a very relaxed restaurant - jean very okay - that still delivered prompt and professional service and very good food. The steaks were terrific (filet mignon for my husband, ribeye for me), the soups were really, really good, and we both liked how you could customize the meal by choosing sides and sauce. I think our server was Lea, and she was attentive and charming but didn't hover. Too bad it was so pricy - the food was worth it, but we'll only be back every third month or so because of the price."

Prices were very fair for a finer
dining experience. quiet resturaunt. staff was very attentive but gave time when it was asked for. birthday party, famlily of 5 and a first date were all around us. this resturaunt can accomodate many situations, family styles. the appetizer list was extensive, many soups, many salads, choices between 6 or 7 cold and 6 or 7 hot appetizers as well. many steak houses just have steak! I liked this option."

Sslid portion was very good, side
dishes were good sized portions as well, but meat portions were quite small but the taste was very good"

The food was very good but it took
a while to get there. We had to wait what seemed like a long time between the appetizer and the entrée. The filet mignon was done just right as was the tuna steak. When we walked in, a woman was playing a harp and it was just the right touch. A little later, one of the local singers began crooning the 50's and 60's songs and he kept the volume just right- we could enjoy him and still talk without shouting. I'd go again."

We had always been fans of Rick's
Seafood, & were looking fir a special spot for our holiday gathering. We chose the Char House and were not disappointed. One small negative, on a Friday night, was a noisy bar. Otherwise a fantastic experience of wine, food and ambience. The roaring fire nearby was a beautiful touch!"

I've been to Char a few times and
always had an excellent meal. But they need to rethink their recent Coquilles Saint Jacques special. For $24 there were only three small shells with scallops that were still attached to their home. Difficult to get the meat separated from the shell and the sauce was mundane. Hence my three stars for this visit. Asian calamari, however, was very tender and great sauce. Bread pudding also very good."

Second visit to Char House,
conveniently located right off Taconic State Parkway; had the restaurant week menu. Asian calamari as appetizer was different and delicious, but the wasabi sauce was a little too hot for my taste, good thing it was on the side! Frenched chicken with rice/vegetables was delicious, husband had Delmonico steak-cooked exactly as ordered. Sauteed vegetables were delicious. Lava cake for dessert was super chocolaty. Service was quick and friendly, beautiful fireplace in main dining room. Will definitely eat here again."

Food great. Waiter service very
good. Hostess seating horrible"

appetizers were good, but soup was
cool. Prime rib was tough and bland, steak was very fatty. deserts were good. drinks were good but very pricey. dinner for three with the $29 menu totaled $150 plus tip. Can't imagine what this bad meal would cost on a regular night. Will not go back."

The appetizers and desserts were
good, however, when you order prime rib at a steakhouse you expect it to be perfect. The prime rib was chewy and not at all what we expected. The service was terrible. Bread was not brought to the table until 1/2 hr. after we were seated; the waiter never asked if we wanted a beverage refill; when we ordered coffee, we asked for cream and the waiter said maybe they have half and half, no cream. A waitress brought us our coffee with milk. When asked about the half and half, she said we have no half and half, only cream. Very disappointed experience; we will not be returning."

We took advantage of Hudson Valley
Restaurant Week to take friends here for dinner. They are particular and don't eat out often. The meal was a success due to very good food, attentive wait staff, and nice ambience. We've been out with this couple a number of times, and this is the first time they said they would return to a restaurant. There was a nice warm fire going, and the noise level was quiet, made for good conversation."

The food and service was fair. I
know restaurant week is busy- but 5 out of 6 people in our party did not even order from the pre-fix menu. My husband was told after he ordered a particular brand of beer that they only had one bottlle, served it to him and charged our party for two bottles. I had to summon the bus boy twice to get our waitress for us. They also ran out of Creme Brulee and it was only 8pm on a Saturday. The 6 of us probably wont be back."

Overall we had a great experience.
I thought I would try the terikiyi calamari and boy was it delicious. They were tender , tasteful. I'm craving them just thinking about them. The mashed potatoes and veggies were also great. Some cons: When we first walked in there was no hostess to greet us. Other employees saw us but did not come over. They could have least said something. We waited with another couple for at least 5 minnutes till one of the waitresses came over. The service was ok, not great. Even tho there were only about 8 tables and many waitresses ours seem flustered and not to friendly. We had to ask her for items several times."

The food was good, but the
service, although friendly, was very slow. We were there for Hudson valley restaurant week and the menu was not very interesting"

Our waiter was not too
knowledgeable and sluggish. Ordered spinach artichoke dip, way overcooked but tasty. Steak was good, not great. I'd go back to try other things."

Char is just the perfect
restaurant especially for romantic night out. The food is amazing the lobster bisque is by far the best I have had. Filet mignon was cooked to perfection and love all the choices of sauces you can add to your it. I highly recommend the martini served with cheddar stuffed olives wrapped in bacon. I will be returning in the near future!! Thanks again for a wonderful evening!"

The food was terrible. We ordered
the crab cakes and there was not a trace of crab. All breading. My wife ordered a salad and was drowned in the dressing. Her skirt steak was ordinary and not cooked as was asked for. I ordered a hamburger and was just ok. I would not return or recommend."

Have eaten there mutliple times.

Loved the food and drinks, so we
would definitely return, but we would sit at the bar instead. Could have done without the lounge singer who serenaded the tables. it was very loud. He has a great voice but we were more interested in a romantic dinner not a sing-a-long to Happy Birthday- twice. Also, not a fan of the staff using carts to bring out the food and to bus tables while people are eating."

Solid surf and turf food in an
area practically devoid of decent restaurants. Seafood was especially fresh. A bit on the pricey side. Convenient location just off the Taconic."

A treat for casual, upscale
dining. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious with just the right amount, perhaps a little pricey, but a nice place to have a meal on a special occasion."
Dined on 8/10/2013
Made reservations for 6 because we
all wanted to try it. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the atmoshere was very friendly. We all would go again. I will bring other friends again."

The Char Steakhouse is a definite
to try. We use to go to the old restaurant that was their& their food was good, but the redecorating changed the whole atmosphere !!!!! It definitely looks 100% better and more like a upper scale steakhouse. The food was delicious and their was a nice variety to pick from. The staff are all very friendly and work hard. The only complaint was it took a bit long to get our food. This was a problem with the last restaurant too. So must need either a bigger kitchen or more help back their. Otherwise, if your out for a night to relax, its a definite on our list."

We gave this restaurant a try
because there were new owners. We both ordered Delmonico steaks which started out tasty, but halfway through, mine was a pile of fat. My husband's wasn't as bad, but was also fatty. I had ordered a whiskey sour while we waited to be seated. The drink was ok, but it was served in an ordinary small glass with a cherry instead of an orange slice. During dinner I decided to give it another try, but asked the waiter to request an orange slice. But my drink never came. The waiter came over to say my drink was coming but the bar was really backed up. I told him to cancel it. When it came time for dessert, we opted out, and the waiter said that was just as well because the kitchen was really backed up. Poor management!"

Went to Char to celebrate a 50th
birthday for my sister. We were not disappointed! Friendly service, good food and the staff was very attentive. Will definitely be going back again!"
