  • "Very good pasta, excellent NY Strip. Very good service until it came time to get the check (had to wait a long time and then signal for it). Very casual clientele - some were a bit too casual (shorts on a Saturday night, few sport coats). Kid friendly."

  • "We are generally tolerant of delays on a Saturday night, but our experience at Char overtaxed all patience. While appetizers arrived fairly fast, we received no entrees for more than an hour. We were not alone: diners from different tables began talking about the delay as wait staff repeatedly apologized and said our food would be right out. After nearly two hours, we finally left our table to go home (as had another larger group already) and, as we were near the door, our food finally came out of the kitchen and we were urged to stay. Unfortunately, the food was marked mainly by its saltiness. The restaurant was apologetic and cut our bill by 50 percent. This was our first time at Char ... Hopefully, just hit it on an off-night."

  • "There were four of us and we could actually talk and hear one another. This is a great restaurant to go to if you want a delicious dinner ... gumbo the best, scallops perfectly cooked along with the other fish dishes, who would know that chicken could taste so good and you simply can't avoid the bread pudding dessert ... pastry chef certainly has created a very special ending to your meal. Service couldn't have been nicer, lovely atmosphere around the fireplace. Certainly would return again ... a nice change of pace from the noisy restaurants in Greenwich and ... they have plenty of parking!!!! Also a wonderful place for a family brunch."

  • "We thought everything was just okay. The service was good, but we found the menu a bit dull. And that was the new spring menu. There just wasn't anything we were excited to order. I would have liked to have some lighter entree choices like sandwiches, maybe ,, there isn't even a burger on the menu. We just found it uninspired and a little boring"

  • "This was our 4th or 5th time having dinner at Char and it has been consistently good. Surprisingly because it was a Sunday night and not that busy, the service was rather slow, although very pleasant. Food was excellent; good value for the price. Will return."

  • "Went to this restaurant twice and both times it was amazing. First time we sat at the bar and meet the chef. He gave us great recommendations for dinner. I had the chicken, it was juicy and delicious. My boyfriend had the Lamb Bolognese -- OMG to die for!! Great atmosphere and the food is delish.. oh and I would also recommend getting the bread pudding for desert you won't regret it!!! Loved it so much the first time brought a group back for a friends birthday dinner."

  • "The owner walked around and introduced himself to diners and asked about how everything was. I am a frequent diner in the area, and it is a rarity to see this. This is what is missing in many of the restaurants today...hospitality. The food was excellent and the accommodated my dietary needs. I found the owner and his staff to be very professional and that is why I will absolutely return and recommend this restaurant to my many friends."

I had the Duck and Goat Cheese Bruschette appetizer, Char Grilled Hanger Steak and French Toast Bread Pudding all were delicious. Especially the Bread Pudding. It was lunch during the week so the room was quiet in general."

  • "We're planning a private event, so we had dinner here first to check it out. The good news is that the food was delicious (the spicy shrimp appetizer is a must, my filet mignon was perfect) the service was very friendly and attentive, and the decor is striking. It was a little noisier than I'd like, but that's true of most places these days. Our only true complaint was that it's very cold inside. In fact, the woman's bathroom thermostat actually read 55 degrees! Apparently, the owners plan to revamp the heating/cooling system this spring. They opened in July 2013, and this is their first winter (and a bad one at that), so this came as an unpleasant surprise to them. If they get that issue fixed, this place would be nearly perfect."

The decor is lovely, a fireplace, great food and a very attentive waiter. A great night all around. Other restaurants have been tried in this locale and all have failed. I think the curse has been broken with Char."

  • "The food here is wonderful and changes seasonally. Our experience on Sunday had one major flaw and that is that it was freezing inside!!! We ate with our coats on and our food got cold very quickly because there were drafts all over the place. The owner mentioned that they had a lot of work to do to repair the heating system or the building structure but until it warms up outside I won't be back."

  • "After all the restaurants that have gone in and out of this location we decided to give this new place, Char, a try. And I'm SO glad we did! We went for Valentine's Day and they had a prefix menu, which usually I'm not a fan of. Every course was delicious! I have not had a meal that amazing in a very long time! It was romantic, kid friendly, and fun all at once! The renovations are gorgeous with the massive fireplace as a focal point in the middle of the dining room. And to top it all off, the staff were ALL warm and inviting. We will definitely be returning to Char soon!"

  • "On a cold winter night the room we were seated in was too chilly for comfort. A complaint to the owner resulted in a portable heater which did not work. The missing table clothes did not go with the pretentious and very high priced menu. We shared a "mushroom salad which was satisfactory but lacking mushrooms. Entrees were very good but the accompaniments were cold and not appropriate. Desert was a gooey mess of fallen cake and canned cherries which had little relation to Black Forest torte.For example, my wife had short ribs but there was no starch served to enjoy with the sauce. In sum. The food was okay but the total experience was poor"

  • "This was my third visit to Char. The food has been consistently good (for the NYC suburbs, which lowers the overall bar substantially). On this visit, we told our waiter when we sat down and ordered that we had a deadline, yet it took over an hour to get our entrees. Our server was sort of helpful, but basically did nothing to move it along. We ended up being 30 minutes late for our event even though we had left plenty of time and had an early reservation when the restaurant was not busy."

  • "The food was eclectic, different, and really delicious. I had the potatoes bravas appetizer which was delicious and had just the right amount of heat. I tried a bite of the grilled octopus app which was different than anything I've had and so tasty! Also sampled the spinach and vanilla bean vinaigrette salad, that had nuts, pear, and goat cheese. I found that to be really unique but very enjoyable. Main course I had the duck confeit, my first time having duck, and I wasn't disappointed! Skipped dessert because I was fed up with the poor service at that point. My complaint was only about the service- the waiter was rude and the other workers seemed like they didn't know what they were doing"
