  • "I took my wife out to celebrate her birthday at Chapeau! I couldn't be more happier with my choice of the restaurant. The staff went out of their way to make this event really special. My wife ordered the chef's special menu while I went with the 3 course meal that included onion soup, Cassouluet de Toulhouse and French toast for dessert. I rate the food 5 stars while my wife gave it 4 stars which roughly averages to 5 stars. I'm looking forward to going back here and keeping an eye out for Chapeau! on Dine About Town!"

  • "We hadn't been to Chapeau in years after moving out of the neighborhood. We were pleased to find that it is still 100% amazing. The food was wonderful - do NOT miss the french toast dessert! My filet was cooked perfectly, everything was wonderful! Accommodating and attentive staff. We need to make more of an effort to get back over to the Richmond!"

  • "My husband and I were in the city for a night out and want to enjoy a desert with coffee we found this incredible spot. We ended up getting wine, onion soup (made to perfection), fish and seafood entre and desert with coffee :) everything tasted amazing and I could feel that the chief put a lot of love and effort into it :) Would definetely come again when we are visiting SF. The chief came to welcome us at the table and when we were leaving. You can definetely see his personality in food and atmospher."

  • "The truly wonderful and extraordinary aspect of our dining experience at Chapeau was that ALL of the staff, from back servers too Philippe, made us feel as though we had been regulars for years when, in fact, this was our FIRST time through their doors. We had the four course menu with champagne and wine service. Every step was a delight. Our courses were examples of supurb execution and creativity. We will soon return to our new adopted family. You made our night quite wonderful. Thank you to all."

  • "This is our go-to restaurant for an early dinner after visiting the de Young or Legion art museums. The early bird menu is a great value. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and charming. The only downside is that it gets pretty noisy when the restaurant is full. It is a pretty small place and lots of hard surfaces plus the bar right adjacent to the tables. But, I guess that describes most restaurants these days."

  • "Second time here. Overall a good experience but the first time was great. Not sure why the inconsistency so I would hesitate in recommending this place for a really special occasion. If one catching them on a good night, their French cuisine is very accessible and delicious."

  • "We celebrated my daughter's 21st birthday here. Her first time at a French restaurant and she loved it. Great fixed price menu! Escargot, sweetbreads were great. The duck entree(s) we're delicious and we have never seen such large portions of crime brûlée. Baked Alaska was perfect and the profiteroles had a chocolate topping on the pastry that was an added touch. Pork tenderloin was good too. We also got the additional scallop on risotto that was magnificent....which we could have tried even more items....there were four of us). Great excuse to come back. Seected this restaurant because of great Yelp! Reviews. Next time we will ask them to make a Grand Marinier soufflé for dessert as they said they can do with several days advance notice."

  • "came here for DAT dinner. We ordered escargot and tart as appetizers. Both are decent. Bread was warm and soft inside but crunchy outside. Also had pork loin and duck breast as entrees. Pork loin was surprisingly tender and delicious. Duck breast has a bit of asian taste versus french style to me, but it is also very tasty, especially with the sauce. Cream puff ice-cream was nice but a little sweet for me at the end. Would love to go back and try other entrees."

  • "We go here sometimes or occasionally. We love this place. Philipe the owner is very friendly, a great chef. My daughter who is 4 year old and she loves to eat escargot and French onion soup. My husband always orders filet mignon. I loved the sweetbread last time, it was so tasty."

  • "Early dinner after seeing the Impressionist Exhibit at the Lefion of Honor. Three and four course prix fix options - we did one of each and split the extra course. Wait staff attentive and engaging. Setting very French-like. Close but not too close tables Oh, the meal - c'était merveilleux! Unannounced amuse bouche course of tomatoe bisque followed by escargots. Interesting main menu - went with te skate in brown butter sauce - generous portion and very tasty. Dessert was a citron tarte with perfectly balanced acidity. Nice but not over pretentious wine list and reasonably priced - selected a burgundy from Beaune. Comme ils disent à Paris, on mange très bien ici !"

  • "I came here with a group of friends to try Dine about Town. The host/owner was wonderful, very accommodating and friendly. Half of the group tried DAT and were not disappointed. Others tried the regular 3 course meal and once again everything was tasty. Service was great and not once did we feel rushed. The salmon was the best that I've had anywhere and was happy with my choice. The filet and ratatouille were great also. I would come back for service, salmon and filet. The French onion soup was just ok. It was sweet and felt the consistency was off. Desserts were fabulous. Can't go wrong with any of them. Great value if you are doing DAT and good value for the 3 course meal."

  • "My first visit to Chapeau, although I have been meaning to go for years. Thought the dine around incentive was a good time to try. The food was over the top fabulous. Service very good, attentive and explained the menu carefully - not intrusive. I was shocked to see that the hostess does not follow the dress code. All the waiters and assistants were in white shirts and ties and dark pants lending an air of subdued elegance; while the hostess was in faded jeans and shirt - both too tight, that would have been suitable for an afternoon soccer match. She filled in serving the food and wine, so she clearly was planning on working at the tables. Too bad she lent a poor first impression for the evening. "

  • "Had a wonderful experience! The waiter was attentive and the manager/chef came out to ensure we were enjoying ourselves! We had the dine about town menu and everything was superb! Onion soup, escargot, duck, the pork loin, and the desserts.. yum yum!! I highly recommend doing early reservations because parking was very easy to find and we were able to enjoy our dining experience without feeling rushed. This also gave us a great amount of time to still go around the city and enjoy the evening. "

Wished it wasn't our first night in town from the east coast - we were too tired for dessert. My only critique is that the tables were very close together.   • "When ever we eat here, and it is not enough, it always brings a smile to our face. We now we will have a good meal, and at a fair price in a place where everyone makes you feel welcomed. Food is always good. A good selection of options. This time we had Onion Soup and a blue cheese tart that were both excellent as an appetizer. For the main dish, there was a duck dish and a cassoulet, both good with great balance. So good. Dessert, which my wife usually passes on, she ate right up. Mine was also good. Wine was a reasonably priced french wine that was recommended that match well with the food. Enjoy the place."

  • "Our waiter was Pascal and he made all the difference. He makes you feel so special. The food was outstanding. We had the mussels which had the right amount of parsley and garlic, never had we had mussels that were this good. The sweetbreads were great as was the sauce and well, the filet mignon was the reason we went there and it didn't disappoint. The owner of the restaurant greeted us so nicely and hurried back to say goodbye. Just made you feel like you are the reason they are there that night."
