Diner Reviews
  • "Chose Chandler's at the last minute to celebrate a quiet birthday. It was quiet in the restaurant being summer, across from the beach and tourist season but the service was spectacular, attentive and the food was amazing. Recommend the melt in your mouth scallops, the sea bass was light & cooked perfectly and the bed of spinach & mushrooms it was served on was seasoned perfectly. The rib eye was cooked to a perfect medium and the truffle oil fries were excessive but so yummy! Enjoyed the wine pairing with the Chandler's Experience and relatively inexpensive for the pairing. Will definitely be back!"

  • "I have been meaning to visit this restaurant since it opened last year, and Friday evening I finally made it here. We were seated on the outside and the only caveat I have about this place is that there is no sun screen on the patio, so if it's summer and the sun is going down, it's right in your face. That said, the patio is lovely, the view is great, the food is quite good and the service was great. So they should get a 1/2 star off for the sun in the face, but other than that, everything was very enjoyable, if you accept the rather high prices for a place like this. I don't mind, because there are so few good places in Carlsbad, and I will be back. The best dish was the crab-crusted sea bass. Interior seating was very noisy."

  • "To any given reader, if you prefer to have a long standing happy relationship that speaks genuine admiration and Amore for your spouse, make a private setting at this location for that special day. The night was so great (host, food, server's, starters, drinks and main course) I could've married my wife again. Having a starter with their great selection of drinks with a bodacious view of the Pacific accented with the ocean trade-breeze was Perfectooo! Fish and meat selection was sumptuous, I was specific in what we wanted and nice thing was the menu on their website was accurate in comparison to what we saw in person. From previous venues this has no always been my experience. I will probably return & stay on the premises for a nightcap"

  • "Enjoy the well appointed hotel lobby and view as you enter and find your spot to eat a bite for lunch or dinner. Always a nice greeting, good food and great service. Our server, Tracy was delightful. A minor problem developed with over-cooked food and was resolved immediately. Can't beat that."

  • "The food here is always excellent, and so is the service. The wine list is marked up less than other restaurants in the same local and competitive class. In addition, the wine list includes some hard to find and hard to get wines from the Central Coast, with very attractive pricing for a restaurant."

  • "Food was good (nothing great jumped out), beautiful restaurant and view, waited almost 10 min to get our first drink order and had to ask for our waitress out on the patio. She was very nice but not very attentive and we even had to hunt her down for our check. This was our first time at Chandler's for a night out and not the greatest. We may give it one more try but again just wasn't impressed considering all the nice little places around at about the same price point."

  • "Everything was good except for the overcooked duck…..dryed out & flavorless! We had to ask for silverware……Noise level way too intense…However the fish we ordered was excellent!"

  • "we enjoyed a late dinner on the patio, the food was delicious, i loved the pretzel rolls, and the view of the pacific is lovely at sunset."

  • "This is one of our favorite places to dine. We bring all of our out of town guests here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. "

  • "Having dined at this Chandler's before, both my wife and I were a little disappointed with the experience. The lobster egg rolls were basically tasteless. Our server had high praises for the "bass" dish so we ordered that. It was merely OK. The presentation was very mediocre and the fish was a little dry and without a great taste. So all in all, not too good. Atmosphere is always great there. The restaurant was hopping. But sadly, the food was ordinary."

  • "If they continue on this road, this hotel and restaurant are not going to make it. There is nothing special about the ambiance nor the food to bring me back here. Management needs to re-think this place. They scheduled a fire alarm test during the LUNCH HOUR when the restaurant had diners. The noise was painful, it went on for over a minute and then got tested again. We questioned why they did it during lunch time and the manager told us it was a good time for him. The food was not good, the waitress was brand new and tried but I have a feeling she is not getting much support. Poor management!!"

  • "Enjoyed the fish of the day, halibut - prepared extremely well; 'white' pizza was tasty and filled with great veggies. Great service and a quiet table away from the noise of the lunch crowd made this meal extra special. "

  • "We came here for dinner on Mother's Day and had a wonderful experience. All of the staff were friendly and attentive and our server was fantastic. They were very accommodating for my gluten-free needs as well and they are willing to alter pretty much any dish on the menu to make it gluten-free, verifying with the kitchen what can and cannot be done. They have a very good wine list and signature cocktail list, too. I had the burrata and tomato salad - so good - and the diver scallops, which were some of the best scallops I've ever had. My husband had the crab-crusted sea bass which he proclaimed as the best sea bass he's ever had. Everything was perfectly prepared and incredibly flavorful and the proportions were spot-on. Loved our dinner!"

  • "Prompt friendly service . A bit rushed after appetizers & salads , entres arrived a little too quickly. VERY noisey. Noise degraded the atmosphere. Sort of hectic. Have had breakfast here . Much more relaxed . "

  • "Duck confit w peppers and fried eggs was a duck lover's delight, french toast w blueberry and thyme topping was awesome and the service from the manager was the best in years! Mesmerizing view sitting outside. We'll be back! Very cool vibe in the hotel very nice experience."

  • "I have been here a few times and loved our meals every time. The crab crusted sea bass is excellent and not priced too high, compared to competitors in the area. Diver scallops are also a favorite and they have a nice list of specialty drinks. Vegetables always very fresh."

  • "More than I expected. Food was great as well as scenic view of ocean. Food line was short and fast moving. This was a surprise being it was Easter Sunday."

  • "Made a reservation to Chandlers for Easter brunch with my 2 daughters. As it was already Thursday the best time I could get was 10:45am. I received a call on Friday and informed that it was brunch only (no menu items) and the brunch was $65/pp. This gave me some hesitation and high expectations for a very nice brunch. Very disappointing.......one short brunch line....no carving....a lame omelet station and dessert station. Really, no ham or carved meet on Easter ??? Really, no fruit on a brunch line? Oh, and then to top it off, the mimosa's that one would think would be included in a $65 brunch were $8 each !! $260 for brunch for 3......lesson learned....save it for the tourists."
    Dined on 4/20/2014
  • "Very expensive ($65pp), ok selection for Adults, but for an Easter Brunch there was nothing for kids. We ended up having to order off the menu for our 4 yr old (who would have been free). We will definitely not bring the family back... maybe just a "date-night". "

  • "Third time here and it was the best. Service was best I've had in SD. Tasting menu was a great option. I had the duck and it was amazing. My wife went with the sea bass and it was also great. "

  • "Since this place is in the hotel, parking was a bit of a walk from the parking garage. Customer service was excellent. Food was so-so. My spouse ordered the Lobster-Shrimp Tacos which were generously packed with lobster meat, but was only good, not "great." Nothing to write home about. Truffle Fries hit the spot as well as their bite-sized pretzel breads. I ordered The Napa pizza. The crust was crunchy but the middle was mushy. Maybe because it was 1000 and they were closing at 1030, but to pay $18 for a soggy pizza is a little extreme. We wrote off the experience and vowed not to return, unless we are looking for a nice place to enjoy the sunset while sipping cocktails."

  • "The customer service at this restaurant is amazing. Add the customer service to the taste of the food, the selection of appetizers, and the sunset views on the CA coastline and you have an incredible experience."

  • "Great experience we had for a birthday dinner. Food was good, ambience and view was great---beautiful view!, and the service was excellent! Our server Jose was wonderful. Would definitely come back again for dinner, lunch, or just drinks."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "I had the rib-eye which just wasn't that great... a little tough and the flavor just wasn't all that great. The calamari is good, a bit on the salty side. My drink was horrible, I think the bartender just might of had an off night as I've had the same drink there before and it was fantastic."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "It was a comfortable place for 2 couples to dine and chat. And what a plus to have an ocean view! The menu was interesting and odd. The items offered were a bit too eclectic. And the pizzas are listed but it's not clear that that's what they are. Food was very tasty but the portions were a tad small."
