Waded through the Mercer Mess continuing construction and it was worth the wade. (Chandlers has its own parking lot, so once you get there you are home free.) We both had the Whiskeyed Crab Soup, which is a long favorite. I had the sesame crusted ahi tuna, done rare and to perfection. Great accompaniments. This occasion was different, we flew in from Chicago, had our grown children drive up from Vancouver for the weekend and treated them to some of Seattle's delights, one of which Is Chandler's Crab House.
From the moment we stepped into the reception area we were greeted with outmost care and our "reserved" table was awaiting us. The view and ambience is second to none! The Menu has items to satisfy even the most selective pallets. Above this, and to give him just rewards, our sever Christian, was beyond the best server we have ever had!! There were loads of cobwebs in all of the windows, which are all around you in this location, and it felt like either no one cared or there was not a cleaning schedule. Over the water locations need to pay attention to these details, especially when charging such high prices for the food. With 2 kids at home whenever we can get away its got to be somewhere GREAT! We sat in the room with the big window looking out over the water. It was such a beautiful day and we got to watch the sun go down while boats went around on the water. It was nice that they have shade on a certain part of the window to bring down when the sun is shining in your face and then able to put back up when the sun has moved. Our waiter was awesome! Not once did we feel rushed for anything! Even after we were done eating he just let us sit there and enjoy the peace and quiet all by ourselves enjoying the view! We sat out on the patio and watched the sun set while I ate one of the most perfectly cooked steaks I've ever had. We were the last customer to leave the patio area (by an hour or so) and the wait staff continued to be polite and never once made us feel rushed. That worked really well here. Crab cakes and tuna tartare were both good, but the Crab Rockefeller was the real killer. It's a huge plate with big chunks of crab, a buttery sauce, and plenty of bacon bits. So big and rich that it would be hard for one person to finish. First of all, it is in a beautiful spot on South Lake Union. The view is terrific. We were seated in a smaller area of the restaurant where there were only four large tables. The atmosphere in this room was quiet and intimate. We could actually hold a conversation at normal voice levels which is rare for Mother's Day brunches. The food was excellent. The coffee was fresh. The seafood, as expected, was incredibly fresh and impeccably prepared. The waitstaff was attentive and accommodating. We never found ourselves looking for or waiting for service. We had dinner here on Saturday evening. The evening was so nice we asked for a table outside and we got one with a great view of Lake Union. The view was absolutely amazing! The appetizer was great, and the main courses were even better. The crab legs and the truffled potatoes wedges were great! Chandler's definitely redeemed themselves. The first time was so good that I went back with my husband. The second time the portions were very small, hardly any crab in the pot pie, just flavor. It was such a disappointment. The first meal I had there the pot pie was loaded with crab. They ran out of the key lime pie, which was also excellent the first time. The did not substitute a different desert, and we didn't want ice cream or sherbert. They did give us a rain check for the key lime pie though.
I will definitely go back. I went and sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. Both bartenders were great! The bartender (lady) let the hostess know I was in the lounge so when my table was ready she could find me. I was really impressed that when I made my reservation I asked for a window table and the staff made sure we had one. I cannot say enough about Maria! She is amazing! She made our night. To top it all, the service, the ambience and the food were all super. We had halibut, salmon, crab, scallops and the chowder among the 4 of us. Halibut was a bit firm, but the other dishes were excellent.
