  • "My husband and I dined there the other day for the very first time. We were thoroughly impressed with the food, the drinks and the excellent service. My husband tried their signature lamb tajine and said it was the best lamb he ever had. I had the halibut, which was no less delicious. Both dishes were generous, beautifully plated and mouth-watering yummy. We ended our meal by sharing the eclat de chocolat which is a chocolate dream on a plate. The beer and wine lists are quite extensive: we tried Belgian beers for our entrées and Pinots for the mains and were very happy with our choices. The staff is extremely attentive to the customers, very helpful, but unobtrusive. Overall, we spent a wonderful evening and plan to return."

  • "Bread was modestly good, for an extra charge, appetizers heavy on the mayonnaise, BIG on the olives. Wine selection has room for improvement. The mains were ok. Tremendous amount of coming and going of the wait staff, with "SERVICE PLEASE" constant and loud from where I was sitting. Loved the interiors with exposed wood and the lighting was lovely. "

I had the olive plate as a starter, mussel with the tomato based sauce and pomme frites, then followed by the dark chocolate mouse... SO GOOD! Beverage: 2 pages of Belgian beers made sense once we found out the owner/chef is Belgian and even more sense when our encyclopedic but highly personable "sommelier" listened to our personal taste in beer and made a match in heaven with our various dishes. Who needs wine? Service: attentive, knowledgeable and a seamless team effort Price: perfectly appropriate to the high quality Ambience: a vibrant thrum ... you know you're in for a great evening as soon as you arrive. If you want a quieter meal, arrive early or late. The large, airy back room is lovely. The mid-room tables fairly intense. "

My entrée of halibut was $31 yet the portion was far too small to be considered sufficient and the accompanying sides wasn't much either, forcing me to order a side of fries to feel satiated. Not a restaurant that I'd regularly frequent and will only be on special occasions if at that. Hawksworth in my opinion is a far better value."

The candle-lit tables at the back are quieter, while the front part of the restaurant allows for a more casual night out. The food was excellent, and the service was unbelievably flawless."

  • "2 of us for an early meal at 6pm (reserved). SERVICE: Our waiter was professional, attentive and was able to confidently make sure we had enough to drink at all times. Door "greeting" was another matter. Firstly, we were greeted with "you know there is a 2 hour dining limit, will you be longer?", then pointing at the TINIEST table right next to the entrance. Of course, we politely declined the offer for the oompa loompa table and took the table for regular sized people in the back. This was followed with a swift reminder "we have the same table booked for 8pm, so we have to have you leave before then". Of course, were out within 2 hours, but we know every rest. has a dining limit. Some are just more professional ..."

  • "If you are a mussels lover, you must try them here....you will never want to go anywhere else for your mussels fix! We had the congolaise (spicier broth) for our mussels, and it was amazing! FYI, portions are huge so consider sharing the mussels and ordering side of bread to soak up some of the extra broth, plus fries with mussels come with nice aioli dip as well!"

  • "As always, we had a great time: staff know what they're doing, from the front of house to the waiter to the kitchen and all the way back. Wonderful food and a great wine or beer. I'll be back! I booked an early meal for pre-theatre and told them so. They called back to let me know that there wouldn't be a problem getting out quickly. On the way there, we ran into lots of so slow traffic and they rang to make sure we were on the way...as I said, great service!"

  • "We were there with a group of ten and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious as usual and the service wonderful. The only complaint I had is that we were seated in the middle of the restaurant across from the kitchen which has a bit of a "stuck in the hallway" kind of feel to it. I've been to Chambar many times and prefer either the front or the back. Having said that, the evening was fabulous and cannot wait to come back again soon. The Congolais muscles are a must every time!!"

  • "The restaurant had a nice interior and was surprisingly big. Food was only average, even the recommended mussels failed to absorb the flavors of its sauce. Halibut was bland although the various sides on the plate were flavorful enough to save the dish. Great fries, dipping sauce tasted like plain mayo. Overall too expensive for the food, only paying for ambience."

  • "In booking the reservation, I didn't even realize this was a Belgian Restaurant, much less that Belgian cuisine existed.... but I couldn't have been more blown away. I literally had the best meal I have ever had in my life. Detail was paid to every aspect of the meal, from the overwhelming service (and knowledge of the servers), to the finely constructed cocktails, to the succulent make up of the appetizers, small plates, large plates and desserts. I will undoubtedly come again when in Vancouver... I may come back to Vancouver just for this restaurant. On the dessert menu, the "Mama Risk" is the finest take/inspiration/modification of Persian Faloodeh I have ever tasted."

  • "The attention we received from the maître-d this evening was exceptional. We arrived for our 8:00 PM reservation and the restaurant was hoping busy. When we were seated at about 8:20 PM, the maître-d came to our table, apologized for the delay and offered us a complimentary glass of Blue Mountain champagne. This was a lovely way to start our evening. The Salade de carrotte brulée was delicious. The mussels in the white wine and butter sauce was far better than the mussels Coquotte. The Mama Rizk dessert was not a favourite, but the sorbet was delicious. We were not sure what happened to our waitress at the end of the evening so the maître-d rang attended to our bill. We left feeling that this was a restaurant that deserved another visit."

If we had to compare Chambar to one of our favorites in Seattle it would most likely be Ethan Stowell's Staple & Fancy. Not only is the food fantastic but it is also beautifully presented. The cocktail are also second to none in their creativeness and deliciousness."

The noise was overwhelming at first but once I had a few glasses of wine I was good to go! Food was smaller on the portion scale but rich and very flavorful! We love that we didn't have to wait a month for a reservation. Although we did dine earlier than planned, it worked well for a leisurely dinner before catching the ferry home to beautiful Bowen Island. And - the food was amazing!"
