  • New space is very inviting but...

the food is off, which is unfortunate, since this had been a reliable mainstay of good food in the city. The atmosphere is quite inviting, the cocktails are creative and the blue fig martini is sensational. Maybe it was just an off night but I found the combination of tastes in my main ( black cod with parsnip puree) to be odd and clashing. Service, however, was pleasant and attentive.

I ordered the fresh pressed juice and the tajine while my partner ordered the paella. The juice was good but a bit small. I enjoyed it - it was a cantaloupe and veggie and ginger mix (refreshing taste and not very sweet). The tajine I had was not to my liking. The sausage was a bit too spicy, and the tajine itself was too tart. I did appreciate the perfectly poached eggs although they just added more liquid to a starchless dish. It felt like I was eating soup. I was expecting some kind of starch to eat with the dish, but there was only the deep fried pita chips on the side that came with hummus (that was the best part about my meal). The chips did not hold the tajine well because of the runny consistency. My partner's paella on the other hand was very good. The curried orzo was subtle but still had curry flavour, and the sausage had a delicious taste. The fried egg and avocado gave it a breakfast-y feel and made the dish feel like comfort food. They were a bit heavy handed with cilantro though in both dishes (a small bunch in each dish) so I just didn't eat it all otherwise it would have overpowered the other ingredients. Service was great when we first walked in. Had our coats hung and there was seating for waiting. Our waiter was prompt when it came to coming to take our orders, but afterwards it got slow. Our empty dishes were sitting on the table for quite some time and we waited for about 10 minutes until he came and we could ask for the bill. Then it was another 5 minutes to bring the machine over. Granted, they were very busy on a Saturday at noon and there were some large parties at the same time. I would go back for the paella and would like to try their other dishes, just would not order tajine again.

Wife took me here for my birthday last week. They've recently switched locations (just next door) and the menu has changed a bit. As always we had an excellent experience. The beer and wine list is impressive and the food is outstanding. Won't bore you with details but will say the lamb tejine was incredible. Will definitely be back!

  • Why are the tables so close together

You guys really need to address how close your tables are together. Nothing quite takes the romance out of an evening Food was overall nothing to write home about. Order the calamari if you like really dry veal. Frog legs were doused in BBQ sauce, and I wish I had more fries with my salt... Service was uninspiring. Expensive restaurant for what?

I first ate at Chambar within a week of their opening at the former location. I moved out of Vancouver so this was my first time at their new location. We went here for our 20th Anniversary. It was memorable from the food to the service. The only thing I would improve upon is the Pomme Tatin. The bottom layer of the crust was extremely hard to cut. Other than that, the meal was perfect.

Our first visit since the renovations. What a lovely surprise. Great blend of historic and trendy. We shared the venison which was a bit tough and small on meat quantity, even for one person. Loved the veg accompaniment and the bacon-wrapped figs. Dessert was the disappointment. I tried something that looked like bird's nest and had a bland custard bit and some minty gelatin bits. The jarring piece was a semi-frozen layer that tasted exactly like the fluoride treatment at my dentist. My companion's apple dessert was hard to eat having an exceptionally tough bottom layer. However, we will be back as we love the vibe and the food (usually). Just ditch the fluoride, please.

Best lamb tajine IMO, just falls off the bone. Addicting. The other dishes are very good, but not 'mind blowing'. Desserts are HUGE and quite sugary, best to share. Hard to get reservations, so make sure to book in advance! Love the new space and décor, upstairs better than downstairs.

Have been to the old Chambar quite a few times. The new one is much larger and a little more upscale, though not stuffy. The food in my opinion has moved up a notch. The frogs legs and cocktails were both unique and tasty. But the main entree of fish was outstanding. Innovative, great presentation, and amazing flavour. I think it was sablefish with a side a kale (good & not chewy). Pomegranate seeds were scattered on the bottom of the bowl, then they poured a parsnip and coconut cream sauce (divine) into the bowl. There were a couple of thin parsnip chips. Overall, excellent

I travel a lot working in Foodservice, so I get to try restaurants all over NAmerica - Went for lunch with one of my customers - Yen Bros Food Service. I am from Toronto and this was on my list of a few so I let her choose - happy she did. The service was great, the ambiance was just as great (could use candles in the dining area was my only knock). I had the Thon au Miso and she had the les Merguez...both were cooked to perfection - we shared the food too! Really impressed with everything here. I would definitely come back - maybe next time with my wife when back to Vancouver. Definitely a must visit!

I love this restaurant. I find the new space a tad overwhelming. I thought bar noise would diminish as we were there for dinner!n the lower level . Food was excellent. Menu is pared back--but has a wonderful variety. Love the autumn salad - needed more poached pear .Salad-a work of art & very yummy- beautiful balance of flavours. Duck was wonderful. I had to have the goat cheese alone (not in the wrap) GLUTEN allergy/ a rice wrapper could be used. It was good to have the flavour ,but it was a tad too much alone!

The food is not as good as I remembered a year ago, especially the mussels. The server accidentally brought a different order of mussels to our table. We didn't realized it so we had some and thought the broth had too much white wine. When our real order came, the mussels broth that we ordered was way too sour. It actually made my stomach very uncomfortable, the level of acidity in the soup. The veal stuffed calamari appetizer was a miss as well.

Great location, decor, service and ambiance. Exceptional lighting. Mezze was not a Moroccan entree as expected but spicy Mediterranean fusion tapas: creative, original and delicious. Salad and smoked salmon were excellent. We are not wine drinkers so did not taste the extensive wine choice. The 3 latte espresso were very nicely decorated - make sure to ask for really hot coffees... The free dessert was a nice surprise. We felt free to stay as long as needed and had a great time - a very good experience.

The Chambar is ideally located for theatre and concert goers. We were seated downstairs by the window, which was much quieter than the excitement upstairs and the ambiance down there gave us a chance to have a lovely conversation without shouting. The servers were attentive and aware that we had a show to make. There were 4 in our party; three of us had the lamb shanks which were out of this world; one person had the moules et frites and said they were the best he had ever had! Beer and wine were outstanding. The only disappointing thing was the regular coffee (Americano?) - too strong; had an instant coffee taste. But we will be back for sure maybe try brunch!!!

This lively, trendy establishment was very busy for a Wednesday night and at 8:30pm still had people waiting for tables. We were glad we had made a reservation well in advance as we were celebrating a special occaision. The restaurant is quite a bit larger than it appears to be from the store front. We had a booth and were glad of it, as we found the noise level a little much. Food presentation and service were well orchestrated. The mussels (one of their trademark dishes) are done 3 ways and are excellent.

Great food. Charming loft atmosphere, feels like dinning in N.Y. Love the new dessert menu, esp. "Mama Rizk". This is my second time having this dessert since the renovation, I'm not a big friend of sweets and desserts but this dish keeps me coming back to Chambar. The sophiscated texture of custard, crispy pastry, mint sorbet & orange added with touch of pistachio. It's refreshing and you can feel all those mixture are partying in your mouth! Top notch with a very reasonable price of just $10.

I go out to dine primarily for the food. I will say that the restaurant is beautifully designed with good flow. For me, however, the dinner was a real disappointment. I am a foodie not a hot spot person. I was disappointed in the dinner. Portions too small and not hot enough. I had the rabbit cannelloni which was okay and we had french fries which were sort of mushy and not right out of the pan. I would have returned them but I was deep in conversation with my companion. Our server was good. I would not come back which is sad because it is a lovely spot, but for me, food first.
