I had made the reservation to celebrate my girlfriends birthday after many other great experiences at Chambar in the past. The food is still amazing and I love the decor. There were only two real draw backs. When we arrived it looked like there was a little confusion about who was serving our table and it took close to 10 minutes for anyone to come and take a drink order. Secondly which was a bit out of the control of the restaurant was the extremely loud woman sitting next to us who was yelling into her cell phone. It would be nice to see a policy on cell hpoen use in restaurants. It was probably my tenth visit and my girlfriends first. She was very impressed and aside from the couple of hiccups it was a great time.

For our party of two, we had mussels cogolaise as an appetizer, and steak and duck as the mains. The congolaise broth was very tasty, although a tad too salty. It came with frites, which was done perfectly. Both our main dishes were excellent. I loved the king oyster mushrooms with my steak, and my companion liked his gnocchi with duck. Chambar has great ambience and service was great. My only complaint is that we had to ask for bread (they charge $3 for it) and when it came, the bread itself was unmemorable, although the harissa spread was interesting. Our bill was around $170 (half bottle wine and the food before tips) so it's not exactly a cheap place, so we were a little surprised with the stinginess (and the quality) of the bread.

We have waited long to finally get in...heard great things! A liitle disappointed. Waiter brought wrong salad had to wait too long for correct one. Jims lamb was great, but Carmen's halibut was pretty much raw, then it took TOO LONG for it to be cooked just a bit more....as Jim is slowly trying to wait looking at his lamb not wanting to be finished. When it finally came to table, yes it was a new piece but the chef took it to the other extreme and "over" cooked it!!Restuarant looked after the salad but we're not sure if a giving us a pile of lettuce was really the solution! Thanks for asking! Carmen

We have been to Chambar a few times and have always enjoyed the food, service and find the location convenient. I have recommended it many times and have always received great feedback. The cocktails are fantastic as are the mussels & frites. This last visit, we had the scallops and salad to start, then our mains were duck & mussels. Absolutely delicious food.

I've always enjoyed dining at Chambar, for both casual nights out and special occasions. We brought a chef friend of ours to Chambar for dinner and she was quite pleased with her experience overall. Although she did note that some of the dishes (steak and halibat) were slightly over cooked but otherwise quite memorable. Presentation was excellent and everything came out promptly. Our server for the evening, James, was friendly, helpful, and engaging. We were also quite pleased that a member of the front of house staff spoke french. My only suggestion would be to refinish a portion of the floor in the back dining area. My chair leg kept getting caught in a little dug out area, and the area by the kitchen window was slightly slippery.

I had high expectations for Chambar and it did not disappoint. Service was attentive but not obtrusive, and when we discovered a small but sharp chip in my martini glass, it was immediately taken off the bill. Their menu is small, but it seems the effort goes into perfecting a few dishes rather than doing many in a mediocre fashion. It's mo wonder why it's a Vancouver favorite!

This was a repeat visit. My earlier visit had resulted in a hassle over the table location and some excuse about prior reservations, a table behind the kitchen door, etc., etc. until I insisted on speaking to the manager. This time, I requested a specific table location in my reservation, and the maitre d' had the table waiting. I was very pleased. The moules are outstanding. Better than I've had in Brussels! Thank you.

Everything was amazing. The only criticism I have is regarding the wine list. It was fairly extensive but the selection of decent wines under $60 a bottle was lacking. The cheapest bottle was $40 and it was a wine that should have been $30 a bottle based on its liquor store price. Everything else was fabulous!

I didn't think the food was anything "GREAT", was good, not sure if I would go back again. I had been there once before a couple years ago and remembered the food to be alot better, maybe we just picked a bad night. The service was good except empty plates seem to be left on our table for awhile before taken away, even though we would have wine poured for some reason the dirty dishes kept getting missed and with the tables be somewhat small for 4 people it was a little annoying.

Great dinner here, came here on our anniversary. Service was good for the most part, waiter was very attentive when service was requested, food was served fairly quickly and cleared at the appropriate times, bill was prompt too. Food was excellent! Wife had the lamb Tajine, I had the steak, both very tasty and filling. Wine and Belgian beer selection is extensive and all excellent. Too full for dessert this time, but my wife has previously enjoyed the "Chocolate Passion" - high praise from her. Ambiance is "modern hip" - moderately loud, but still OK to have a private conversation. Food is on the higher end of the expense scale, but in relative terms, cheap for the world-class quality. Will definitely come again!

The meal was fantastic and the staff were great, very attentive. The only negative was that the music was increased quite significantly later on in the evening to the point where we were shouting at each other to be heard. I would suggest that if you want to do that, leave the music at a reasonable level at the back of the restaurant and leave it loud at the bar.

i always come here for the food, specifically for the mussels, which are fabulous. VERY disappointed that the carpaccio was left out of the petit plats portion, and that the supposedily infamous belgium waffle was left out of the dessert menu. that seriously makes me rethink coming back as often. i found the male wait staff give an aura of snobbery or pretense. perhaps, if they were more friendly, like the ladies, that would've helped with the ambience. i wished the petite plats came BEFORE the main course, as the table given to 3 was only suitable for a party of 2. the table did not provide a comfortable eating surface area as 2 buckets of mussels, a a steak, 3 frites, olives, bread and drinks barely fit onto the table. not impressive.
