The charcuteries plate came with bread that was too thick and too chewy for it's intended purpose--to accompany seven different types of meat, four of which were salami. The meats were good, but it was a bit strange eating them on their own as sliced deli rounds, and I would have preferred some thin, hard toasts. The tuna done two ways--fried and ceviche--was half good. The ceviche with corn salsa was very tasty. The tuna melted in my mouth and the flavours worked well together. The fried was overcooked, so its flavour was completely lost, especially when contrasted with the ceviche. The smoked duck was delicious, except cutting it with the dinner knives provided took quite a bit of work. Sawing through meat isn't my idea of a good time.

In our group of four out of town guests we had someone who was celiac and someone who was vegetarian. There seemed to be something for everyone and a couple of choices. For those that wanted to experiment a little the extensive list of cocktails, that were just a little bit different, was fantastic. I really like the Tanjic lamb but for some reason this time it was too heavy on the ginger and light on the apricots, oh well, still delicious.

We found the ambience of the restaurant perfect for a late night meal. The plating was definitely a work of art and the flavor combinations worked well. Our server was not the same calliber. She was very sweet, but we had to flag her down for everything after she introduced herself. She didn't ask if we wanted drinks - who does that? It's a bar atmosphere! She didn't ever ask us if we were ready to order. And we had to flag the hostess to find out about desert. Not sure if that server was the only one like that or not, but if you are charging high prices, the wait staff should be much better trained.

On a recent trip to Vancouver, BC my friends and I made reservations at Chambar near Gastown. We had never experienced a Belgian-Morrocan fusion food so we were all pretty excited to try their fare. It was fantastic. We started with the smoked duck breast which was a perfect nosh for four people before our meal. It was served with whipped goat cheese, micro greens, and white currants - amazing. Then our entrees came: moules frites congolaise, halibut, ny steak, and Morrocan lamb shank. All of us were extremely pleased with our dishes, the portions were large so don't assume you'll be able to eat it all - this is coming from a true foodie that can eat like a champ. Anyway, our server was extremely charming and helpful as well. Love Chambar!

We had an amazing time here. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, but that was ok with us since we were wanting to take a quick walk around the area anyway. The drinks were inventive and went down easily. The entrees are HUGE, and the small plates are on the larger side. The beef and mushrooms is to die for, the mussels were some of the best I've had a in a long time, and the lamb shank was perfectly spiced and so amazingly tender. I would definitely return here, and probably regularly get a small plate for my entree with a side and (a couple) cocktails.

We had the best meal at Chambar. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer, which was a lot of food, but soooo good. My dinner of lamb and couscous had a distinctly North African feel to it. I highly recommend it. To top it off, their cocktails and selection of Belgian beers was also top notch. The whole dinner was a real treat. We will be sure to go back whenever we are in town.

While at first the meals looks small-ish, they're very filling. Only a few selection of platters, but covers wide variety of tastes. Great alcohol selection. Friendly, unobtrusive service. The only complaint I have is that it's as loud as any brawny pub, which contrasts with the romantic beauty of the decor and seatings.

Service was amazing right as we walked through the door. Our server was friendly and knowledgable. Chambar had a nice ambience and the noise level was not to loud as we were able to carry on a conversation. I would highly recommend the veal and halibut, both were nicely flavoured and cooked perfectly and had nice textural elements to it. Chambar is known for there moules frites but we didn't order any but the aroma from the moules frites made my mouth water, will definitely try it when we're back in the city.

The mussels were great - the rest of the food definitely not so much. Service extremely slow - waited ages for food, had to try to nab passing waiters if needed something. Too noisy (it's a "live" room anyhow then the music is cranked up) should be able to easily talk to each other, and please lose that dryer in ladies room, hurts ears. Put back towels. Used to love this place - now might book somewhere else first.

This has only been my second time coming to Chambar and I have never been disappointed by their perfectly executed service and food quality. There were a couple times when I couldn't hear my server due to the loud table next to mine; this did ruin my experience somewhat (not ideal as a romantic spot nor special occasions). Aside from that, really love the food here!

We went to Chambar as part of a blitz tour of Vancouver for a visiting friend and were not disappointed! It was exactly what we wanted in a restaurant to showcase the vibrant food scene. The restaurant is, of course, beautiful with a great atmosphere. It had an awesome, upbeat energy. The food was honestly some of the best food I have tried. The menu items are exotic, featuring squad and pheasant, but as also familiar, with a great steak and fish. Will 100% be going back.

Chambar has excellent food and has a high tempo energy that is great for a night on the town with friends. However, my wife and I went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. While the food, wine, and service was top notch, it was very busy and not conducive to what was planned as a romantic night out. While I recommend Chambar for a gathering of friends, I cannot recommend it for a romantic night out.

As always, wonderful food, good wine. We had the mussels, all three versions. Prefer the vin blanc. As a retired food formulator, I would reduce the tomato and increase the coconut milk in the congolese version. Cumin spot on! Be sure to sop up the liquid with their great bread. Chambar was fantastic in every sense of the word, except for the fries which were disappointing. I am Belgian, so fries are definitely a point of pride for me, and the fries I got were tasteless and common- nothing like Belgian fries should taste. Apart from that, they have excellent food and an even better selection of Belgian beers- absolutely amazed at the variety! I got a meat plate, peppercorn new york steak, and it was delicious. Cooked to perfection (rare, thank you very much), and seasoned elegantly, it's a dish to remember. Though it was a loud restaurant, the experience was great overall. The mussels were very popular with other diners, and the cocktails looked great. 4/5 only because of loudness and fry disappointment.
