A word from Chamard Vineyards, Farm Winery Bistro
Established in 1983, Chamard Vineyards, is one of the Connecticut Wine Trails founding fathers. Tucked between the Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River, Chamard enjoys a unique marine micro-climate ideal for growing European Vinifera vines such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir. To produce “French Inspired Wines from the Connecticut Shoreline” has been Chamards mission from the start. As a farm, Chamard honors agriculture by partnering with fellow growers and producers to pair food with wine in celebration of Connecticut’s local gastronomy.

Diner Reviews
  • "I had recommended the bistro to a group of my friends. There were eight of us in the group. I had already been there twice and knew the food was excellent. My friends were not disappointed. We had wonderful service, a good view, outstanding wines and most of all everyone enjoyed their meals."

  • "Have been a frequent diner here for the last few months...I can attest to the consistency and quality of the food...which I would label stellar. The chef has a terrific formula, talent, and innovation. The asparagus and leek soup that has, of late, been on the menu is 5 star. My one suggestion would be to add to, tweak or update the menu regularly. A rival of Chamard Bistro in the vicinity, who serves similar kinds of fare, has not updated in a few years and has lost a large chunk of their clientele, including my friends and me. I love the menu, don't get me wrong..but I'd like to see something new added to the regular, printed menu rather than just a weekly addition; That is, if you want repeat customers to become regulars."

  • "The food, wine, and service were fine. The only problem was the NOISE. Your rating for the loudest noise level is "energetic," but at Chamard Bistro it's more that that. It's downright loud. They need carpets or tapestries or curtains or something to muffle the sound. Noise just bounces off all the hard surfaces, making for an unpleasant atmosphere. Everything else was enjoyable. Fix that noise!"

  • "The food was excellent but a little pricey. Also, we had to ask the waitress for bread. I don't know if the policy is not to bring bread or if the waitress just forgot. But with $30 entrees I think bread should be included with the meal."

  • "Atmosphere is almost perfect. Only downside is the tables are kind of close together. Food is outstanding and wines are reasonably priced."

  • "We went shopping at the outlets and then went to the bistro for lunch afterwards - it was a great choice and very quiet on a Tuesday afternoon. I imagine with the tasting room right next door, it probably gets noisy sometimes, especially on weekends. The menu looked great and everything we had was well-prepared. The service was a bit slow, but fortunately we were in no hurry. We stuck to the appetizers, which were all wonderful - cheeses, cured meats, salad greens. Next time we will try something off the entree menu. Definitely recommend."

  • "Upon entering, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Was seated in very comfortable wing back chairs among the artwork that graces the walls. Waiter very attentive and brought us your outstanding bottle of Merlot. The appetizers were enormous which allowed us to split them. The entree's were very well presented as they were delicious as well. No room for desert but had them there in the past, very good! Everyone that I reccomended to come say it was fantastic and a great experience. Then add the views and grounds make it perfect!!!"

  • "We enjoy all our visits to Charmard. The serving staff is wonderful and very attentive . We love the wine choices. A very relaxing location for a Sunday afternoon. It seems like a fun place to work ..."

  • "The macaroni and cheese was like the rich, delicoius type you remember from your childhood. The grilled cheese was awesome. We had a bottle of their Reisling and it went well with both dishes. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Food was very good, a nice selection for lunch. Staff seemed surprised when we arrived, although at the time reservation was made a highchair was requested. Also restaurant was having water supply issues the day we were there, hopefully those issues have been resolved."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The menu was a bit limited, but what we ordered was very good. The outdoor seating is off the tasting room and separated from the actual dining room, so or waiter was trying to handle both the tasting room and the tables outside, which made for very slow service."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Wine was not chilled enough but when requested an ice bucket was brought to the table. Mediterrean plate was tasteless... white bean spread/humus needed spices."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "We had a lovely small reunion here. The staff was attentive. The wines were different and refreshing on a hot night. The food was just perfect. Each dish was cooked the way we liked it. We enjoyed our time catching up with each other."

  • "We went to Chamard as a group of six women to celebrate a birthday. We started in the tasting room with a bottle of wine and a cheese plate, then we proceeded into the bistros for brunch. The wait staff was terrific. The farm to table offerings were delicious. And the ambiance was lovely. Will definitely return."

  • "My rack of lamb was good but my wife's duck was terrible. All fat and gristle and undercooked. When we complained to the waitress all she said was she would tell the kitchen. No offer to take it off the bill. Also a $70 meal and no bread."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "We had an awesome experience, the bistro was small so I was more than surprised at how great the food was. Definately recommend. Only downside was not music his explained about the workings of the vineyard."

  • "This was our first visit for an afternoon lunch and wine tasting on Father's Day. We walked the grounds, took some photos, tasted wine and ate a late lunch, all in a leisurely fashion. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves. We brought a bottle of your Cab Reserve as well. We will return and will try the barn next time. It is a great find! Love it!"

  • "good and interesting food; nice ambiance looking out over the vineyards. More like Napa than CT."

  • "What a find and just behind a big shopping mall which is invisible when you are at the winery. We felt we were really far from home and eating at a cozy inn. Some of the items on the menu specified where the main ingredient originated locally. And the dessert of chocolate was a real winner."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Dinner at The Bistro is outstanding. The mix of flavors is superb! Great locally made wines. The Cabernet is my favorite. The duck and the lamb are delicious and you have to try the pommes frites (french fries) with the garlic dip. Reservations are a must!"

  • "We had a "Spectacular Experience." The Hostess who served us also waited on us and she was terrific, Kari I think was her name. What a fabulous smile. She set the tone of the whole evening. The starter was very good, One starter for a party of four was enough. Our dinners arrived, my wife and I had the fish special. Judging by our plates, Squeaky Clean. And judging by our friends plates, also squeaky clean everyone enjoyed their meal. The wine was also good but we ordered 2 bottles and I felt like I drank them myself when I woke up the next morning. Thank you Chamard Vineyards for bringing this treasure to our neighborhood"

  • "I am only writing from my viewpoint, but there were 3 diners and they may feel differently. My croque Madame without the egg wasn't very good. Bar Bouchée in Madison is much better for it. There wasnt enough ham and cheese and the bread used was very dry. I won't be coming back in a hurry."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "My wife is particular about her wine. She likes only one kind of wine and that is a semi sweet reisling. Washington State has many. However, Chamard had only a dry reisling. They should add a semi sweet to their list. The heavy red blend was excellent. Smooth and silky with complex flavors. Very enjoyable. "

  • "Luckily, I live fairly close to this restaurant where I and my "foodie" friend who was visiting went for dinner. We both thought it was delicious, creative, excellently presented and very reasonably priced given everything. My only criticism is that the tables are too wide for a conversation tho fine when they placed length-wise which the accommodating waiter gladly did upon our request. My only other reservation is that more people will "discover" it making it harder for me to get a reservation. Noise level is good tho it was not crowded when we were there."
