A word from Chamard Vineyards, Farm Winery Bistro
Established in 1983, Chamard Vineyards, is one of the Connecticut Wine Trails founding fathers. Tucked between the Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River, Chamard enjoys a unique marine micro-climate ideal for growing European Vinifera vines such as Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Pinot Noir. To produce “French Inspired Wines from the Connecticut Shoreline” has been Chamards mission from the start. As a farm, Chamard honors agriculture by partnering with fellow growers and producers to pair food with wine in celebration of Connecticut’s local gastronomy.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our third time at Chamard for dinner. Food is excellent, but wait staff service varies wildly. Unfortunately, the noise level ismsomextreme that one has to literally shout which makes for a very poor dining experience."

  • "Impressed at my first brunch-with-5-friends there, I invited 3 friends to lunch to have them discover this exceptional place--all were charmed by the site and delighted by the excellent food and wine selection. Definitely, a rare gem in the area. At my next time there, I shall make it a dinner event to experience the Vineyards-by-night!"

  • "My boyfriend and I are doing the passports this year for the wine trail, and we came across Chamard on amazon local so we bought the voucher and went there for a wine tasting and then dinner. The grounds are gorgeous, the wine was excellent, food was amazing. We were there for the sunset so it was just breathtaking. I would recommend this to anybody that enjoys a good glass of wine, and relaxing in a great atmosphere with a gorgeous view. Definitely my top winery in CT so far!"

  • "Celebrated my mother's birthday here - truly wonderful meal and atmosphere. Service was great too. Will definitely be going back!"

  • "I will certainly return to the winery. What a pleasant surprise to find a sophisticated lunch spot and winery in CT. I felt like I was on vacation and I was just 30 minutes from home. I organized a cousin's Sunday lunch, it was a perfect place to sit and catch up on family news. Some of us ordered from the brunch menu others had burgers and salads, all meals were excellent. The waiter did not rush us, his timing was perfect. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay, it was delicious and took a bottle home $24. I will tell my friends to go to Chamard."

  • "The venue was charming. The service was superior. The food was excellent."

  • "My meal (cod) was very good. My wife had a chicken dish which wasn't great, just okay. She was disappointed. Also, I asked if the wine was the same price as what was being served in the wine tasting area. I was told they did not offer the happy hour price in the restaurant. After we ordered, we watched two people come in from the wine tasting happy hour with two glasses of wine (the half price wine). I asked our waitress if that was okay to do and she said it was fine but at that point it was toooo late and we paid the full price. Not a great system and the waitress certainly didn't help us with that one. That being said, the wine was very good."

  • "Beautiful location, excellent food. Great Service by Carianne! Lovely winery. We had the burgers and the 2 boys a special 4 cheese mac & cheese. Nothing was left on the plates. We also had the Ten Buck Truck Chardonnay....a great find.(we even bought a bottle to take home)"

  • "I had a delightful dinner at Chamard’s Bistro for my birthday--it was wonderful with such a nice ambience! We ordered the burger, the croque madame, an order of pomme frites and a bottle of delicious wine. When we finished dinner we took our wine into the tasting room and enjoyed the music (they had a guitarist/singer performing who was excellent). All in all, a the evening was a resounding success!"

  • "First time here. Found it on Open Table. It was a gem. The grounds are wonderful. The service was good. A little confusion over the wines but the waitress was very helpful and brought over a few samples of different wines to best suit our desires. The food was delicious. Well prepared with a subtle but distinctive taste to the meal. We will definitely be back again. Next time dining outdoors. And i will definitely recommend tje restaurant to others."

  • "Only customers booked at 5 p.m., construction work made it impossible to have a conversation & no one seemed to notice until brought to their attention; duck was totally dried out & you could tell just by looking at it (but they apparently didn't); other dishes in our party under par & some questionable stuff in wine. Very disappointing."

  • "Lovely spot, removed from the ordinary surroundings, yet conveniently located. Windows overlook the vineyard. Our party of five was celebrating a birthday. People were pleased with individual wine choices and their menu selections. Choices included the cheese plate, the asparagus and leek bisque, and cod, as well as the hamburgers and frites. Everything was tasty and beautifully presented. Entrees were served hot, and the bread was fabulous! Negatives: Service slowed as the restaurant filled. One party quite noisy All in all, a pleasurable experience. We'll be back!"

  • "Chamard Vineyards was a wonderful experience! The food was absolutely delicious & I consider myself a foodie. I frequent restaurants very often & the menu descriptions lived up to its word! Many restaurants aspire to be fancy & descript about food but the taste doesn't match. The food was fresh & bursting with flavor here. Try the fig flatbread as appetizer & steak entree with pomme frites was fantastic! A seasonal risotto with veggies from their garden was the best risotto I've ever had-perfectly done! The reserve Cabernet had a smooth finish my favorite of 3 from tasting. Service friendly & at right speed. The vineyard was beautiful with wonderful views from a nice outdoor porch overlooking small pond with fountain. Can't wait to return!"

  • "Lovely spot with views overlooking the vineyard. Food was overall very good. However, the temperature on the meats was a little off. I ordered a pork chop medium rare and it was medium to medium well. My husband ordered the lamb medium rare and it was cooked rare. The flavors were quite good. Their Malbec was quite good as well. The server we had did not mention the specials (which we knew about only because we heard another server telling another table). A small thing but one noted by many reviewers - they need to serve bread. It is expected at fine restaurants. The apple galette was quite good for dessert. It was a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely go back."

  • "Saturday was our first trip to the Winery, but definitely not the last! The wine was wonderful and our meals absolutely delicious. 5 stars on everything!"

  • "I had recommended the bistro to a group of my friends. There were eight of us in the group. I had already been there twice and knew the food was excellent. My friends were not disappointed. We had wonderful service, a good view, outstanding wines and most of all everyone enjoyed their meals."

  • "Have been a frequent diner here for the last few months...I can attest to the consistency and quality of the food...which I would label stellar. The chef has a terrific formula, talent, and innovation. The asparagus and leek soup that has, of late, been on the menu is 5 star. My one suggestion would be to add to, tweak or update the menu regularly. A rival of Chamard Bistro in the vicinity, who serves similar kinds of fare, has not updated in a few years and has lost a large chunk of their clientele, including my friends and me. I love the menu, don't get me wrong..but I'd like to see something new added to the regular, printed menu rather than just a weekly addition; That is, if you want repeat customers to become regulars."

  • "The food, wine, and service were fine. The only problem was the NOISE. Your rating for the loudest noise level is "energetic," but at Chamard Bistro it's more that that. It's downright loud. They need carpets or tapestries or curtains or something to muffle the sound. Noise just bounces off all the hard surfaces, making for an unpleasant atmosphere. Everything else was enjoyable. Fix that noise!"

  • "Very nice place for a leisurely lunch. Beautiful setting in a small vineyard. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, the menu is limited but the food is very good. Wines are relatively inexpensive by glass or bottle. Definitely worth a visit!"

  • "The food was excellent but a little pricey. Also, we had to ask the waitress for bread. I don't know if the policy is not to bring bread or if the waitress just forgot. But with $30 entrees I think bread should be included with the meal."

  • "Atmosphere is almost perfect. Only downside is the tables are kind of close together. Food is outstanding and wines are reasonably priced."

  • "Upon entering, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Was seated in very comfortable wing back chairs among the artwork that graces the walls. Waiter very attentive and brought us your outstanding bottle of Merlot. The appetizers were enormous which allowed us to split them. The entree's were very well presented as they were delicious as well. No room for desert but had them there in the past, very good! Everyone that I reccomended to come say it was fantastic and a great experience. Then add the views and grounds make it perfect!!!"

  • "We went shopping at the outlets and then went to the bistro for lunch afterwards - it was a great choice and very quiet on a Tuesday afternoon. I imagine with the tasting room right next door, it probably gets noisy sometimes, especially on weekends. The menu looked great and everything we had was well-prepared. The service was a bit slow, but fortunately we were in no hurry. We stuck to the appetizers, which were all wonderful - cheeses, cured meats, salad greens. Next time we will try something off the entree menu. Definitely recommend."

  • "We enjoy all our visits to Charmard. The serving staff is wonderful and very attentive . We love the wine choices. A very relaxing location for a Sunday afternoon. It seems like a fun place to work ..."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "The menu was a bit limited, but what we ordered was very good. The outdoor seating is off the tasting room and separated from the actual dining room, so or waiter was trying to handle both the tasting room and the tables outside, which made for very slow service."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Wine was not chilled enough but when requested an ice bucket was brought to the table. Mediterrean plate was tasteless... white bean spread/humus needed spices."

  • "We had a lovely small reunion here. The staff was attentive. The wines were different and refreshing on a hot night. The food was just perfect. Each dish was cooked the way we liked it. We enjoyed our time catching up with each other."

  • "The macaroni and cheese was like the rich, delicoius type you remember from your childhood. The grilled cheese was awesome. We had a bottle of their Reisling and it went well with both dishes. Will definitely go back!"

  • "We went to Chamard as a group of six women to celebrate a birthday. We started in the tasting room with a bottle of wine and a cheese plate, then we proceeded into the bistros for brunch. The wait staff was terrific. The farm to table offerings were delicious. And the ambiance was lovely. Will definitely return."

  • "Food was very good, a nice selection for lunch. Staff seemed surprised when we arrived, although at the time reservation was made a highchair was requested. Also restaurant was having water supply issues the day we were there, hopefully those issues have been resolved."

  • "We had an awesome experience, the bistro was small so I was more than surprised at how great the food was. Definately recommend. Only downside was not music his explained about the workings of the vineyard."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "My rack of lamb was good but my wife's duck was terrible. All fat and gristle and undercooked. When we complained to the waitress all she said was she would tell the kitchen. No offer to take it off the bill. Also a $70 meal and no bread."
    Dined on 6/19/2014

  • "This was our first visit for an afternoon lunch and wine tasting on Father's Day. We walked the grounds, took some photos, tasted wine and ate a late lunch, all in a leisurely fashion. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed ourselves. We brought a bottle of your Cab Reserve as well. We will return and will try the barn next time. It is a great find! Love it!"
