Diner Reviews
  • "The food was delicious and prices you would expect to pay at a good restaurant. The squash soup was the best ever and all the main courses were excellent. There's a fantastic chocolate bomb dessert for chocoholics! The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated, but casual and friendly with great service. Location is outstanding. Great wine list with some excellent wines at a reasonable price. It was busy, but not overcrowded and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Great ambiance! We loved it! Making a reservation over the web is very convenient."

  • "Baked camembert en croute was delicious. The mussels were outstanding as was the baked cod with crab meat topping in a dill beurre blanc. The 2012 Vin de Pays Chardonnay was exceptionally crisp and paired well with our meal."

  • "In addition to excellent food we had the opportunity to chat with the Wine Maker who kindly visited our table and substantially enhanced our knowledge of how imported grapes ended up in the fine wines we had with our dinner. Highly recommended is the Chilean grape Carmenere."

  • "This is my 3rd time at Chamard. Food is very consistent. I tune into the "energy" of a place and Chamard has an excellent vibe--very peaceful and relaxing. The location is beautiful and the colors inside are soft greys and whites. The butternut squash soup is out of this world! I also love the french toast, one of my favorite brunch meals. Charmard does it right--can't wait to go in the warmer weather!"

  • "My sisters and I brought my Mom to Chamard to celebrate her birthday. Wanted it to be a more special than just going to the usual breakfast place, and it was! The vineyard is in a beautiful country setting. We had one of their specials, Eggs Benedict, as well as my favorite, Croque Madam. Delicious! The pommes frites are so yummy, and the brussel sprout side was to die for. Loved it all. Our server Morgan was very sweet, and attentive. The Chef de Cuisine, Matthew Bouffard and his team have never let me down. I also respect that Chamard supports local businesses/farmers by using local and seasonal products. They also support worthy causes, e.g roses for Autism awareness. The decor is lovely, and eclectic artwork is on display throughout."

  • "Didn't know it was a full service winery. Dinner menu was simple but varied enough to please everyone... Accomodating to Vegan requests. Friendly staff. Quaint Dining Area. Can't wait till the weather is warmer for the spectacular views.. We were very pleased with our dining experience and look forward to returning with friends."

  • "The choices were pretty limited; and a bit pricey. Plus just about everything on the menu was not recognized. That's fine with the name of the dish; but even the description below didn't make it any clearer. Went with the burger and it was one of the best I ever had."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed Charmard. Nice as an alternative of food selections and ambiance to all the seafood restaurants in this area."

  • "The visit, our first, was a delightful experience. We spent about an hour in the tasting room which was quite enjoyable. Our lunch was terrific, the food was outstanding and the service was quite good. We'll be back with some friends in the warmer weather. Ray and Toni Dolan"

  • "nice meals---went for a lunch and seperately an early dinner....nice wine selection at reasonable prices and good choice of salads....we are not meat eaters, but other non-meat items were available. Soup and cheeses were especially good... A seperate room (tasting room) was available, but too noisy for us."

  • "We had a most wonderful time at Chamard Vineyards. Although we had a long drive, it was worth it. The food was spectacular, as was the wine. The staff was friendly and attentive. It was a perfect night!"

  • "The food at Chamard Bistro was wonderful. I had the cod with crab topping and it was delicious and prepared perfectly. My friend had the pork chop which appeared to be well done but... was moist and tender and also delicious. We each had a dessert, the pear almond torte and the chocolate boule (might be misspelled). The chocolate boule was very good but VERY RICH. The pear almond dessert was much lighter and I would probably opt for that alone next time. The noise level was VERY HIGH, almost too difficult to carry on a conversation. Really. We were seated next to a table of 8 women... very loud. Once they left the noise level wasn't too bad. That was the only down side. Meals are a bit pricey so this is for a special occasion."

  • "We continue to have a great experience eating at the Bistro at Chamard Vineyards. Their French onion soup is tres magnifique !!! Their Four Mile burger is very tasty and the Croque Madam is a unique experience. It is a great place for lunch or dinner. Make sure you try their own Sauvignon Blanc. The server was polite and helpful. Overall a great experience"

  • "Excellent food and outstanding service. If you like a noisy bar scene with spillover to the dining area, this is the place for you. If you prefer a quiet, private dining experience, it would be best to go on a weekday."

  • "We had a really nice experience at Chamard. Despite living relatively close, we had never been there. The Living Social voucher encouraged us and highly recommend after our delicious lunch. We will return soon, I'm sure. Reminded us of special lunches we've enjoyed in Napa. The bistro is beautifully decorated with lots of windows overlooking the vineyard. Even though its off-season, it was a pleasure to have the views. Wait staff was excellent and attentive and helpful. Since it was lunch, we went for french onion soup and salad with beets. Both excellent and plentiful. The tasting room adjoins the bistro and it was pretty full of tasters with wine and cheese plates. Very good!"

  • "We had a nice dinner at Chamard for my twin's and my birthday. We tried three different wines, something you expect should go over well at a winery, and unfortunately we did not love any of them. The menu was interesting enough, I love places that source local ingredients. The cheese plate was one of the best things we had all night. I ordered the chicken, which came with a nice medley of root veggies, and a lovely sauce. My three companions all ordered burgers, all of which came extremely overcooked. Once we noted this to the waiter, however, it was handled well and the burgers were quickly replaced with edible ones. The fries were decent, though nothing to write home about. Dessert was just OK. Overall, I would go back."

  • "Their red wine was above expectations. Both the locally grown grapes and imported grapes were put into great wines. Cod dish was outstanding. Rib eye steak was disappointing -- too fatty and thin. Views of vineyard, rooms, decks walking areas all have great atmosphere. Tasting room should be doubled in size -- way too crowded on a Saturday. Overall, highly recommended. Go on a beautiful day to get the full feel of what the place has to offer."

  • "high points of the Chamard Bistro=the food is very good and the atmosphere and ambiance lends itself to a nice dining experience however, wines are overpriced, and the quality is just ok. Wait staff could do a better job with table management and service during busy times--some reservation overlap was less than 90 min., while other tables were empty. Guests should not have to feel rushed, especially with a bottle of wine"

  • "Delicious and varied menu, especially good with wines - of course! This charming bistro had a little bit of everything from appetizers to dessert, sandwiches and dinners and wines. Music on Saturday night can be a little loud, but definitely a fun place to be."

  • "We had a reservation at 1:00pm but arrived early and were seated at noon. That was a stroke of luck because the restaurant was very crowded. Our service was excellent but later arrivals may not have fared as well. The view and interior are very nice giving a high rating for ambience. Wines are all from the winery but include grapes from several countries. The menu is limited and the fish item did not appeal to us. It would have been nice to have another choice. Our food dishes included the Duck and Chicken entries which rated good and would have been higher if the Chicken had not been very dry."

  • "I am sure for a night out with my girlfriends for a tasting it would be fine ,but for an enjoyable night out with my husband it was a bit of a let down. The service was warm and friendly, but not very knowledgeable about the menu choices or even the wine. Both my husband and I ordered several different wines to try and no explanation of the wines or possible pairings was ever mentioned or offered. We frequent wineries and fine dining establishments throughout New England and up and down the East Coast so a little knowledge about the wines and menu is just something I have grown accustomed to. The dishes looked like they would be delicious but they were mediocre at best. My veal was very dry and bland and my husband's Ribeye was all gristle."

  • "First time for brunch and we weren't disappointed. The restaurant and setting are beautiful. We had delicious eggs and French toast. The only question is, if you're offering a brunch, why isn't there a full brunch menu opposed to 3 brunch specials added to the lunch menu?"

  • "I've never felt so relaxed at a dining establishment! The butternut squash bisque was divine - delicate but full flavored - and the shaved Brussels sprouts with dried cranberries and toasted pine nuts was the perfect savory, sweet, crunchy combination. The wine was affordable and the Malbec was amazing! Just enough spice but full bodied."

  • "The food was great. The service was great. They could do a better job with their reservation/billing systems. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 20 minutes or so."

  • "We had a lovely meal there a few months ago, and were really looking forward to returning, but yesterday was a big let-down. The place was way over-crowded and it seemed like they had several events going on. The service was marginal. They forgot one of our dishes and then made an excuse. We waited a really long for the food to be served - at least 30 minutes. When it arrived, the food was average. A croque madame sandwich was cold in the middle. Perhaps they have gotten too popular for their own good since they don't seem to be able to handle it. It was difficult to even get out of the parking lot after lunch since there was a line of cars waiting to get in."

  • "After visiting this same establishment previously for wine tastings only, we were excited to try their new bistro, mindful of other vineyards that successfully integrated restaurant service with their operations. The meal was indeed a welcome surprise, and we immediately noticed the care that the chef had brought in preparing our meal, and that our wait staff provided at our table. Our codfish and crab entree was definitely light fare, with interesting flavor surprises included with its vegetable, quinoa and sauce foundation. But the restaurant's vineyard setting also made for an enjoyable Sunday-afternoon visual experience, complete with a low-stress people-watching opportunity among this establishment's primarily casually-dressed patrons."

  • "all I can say is that for the small place there was a lot of very good food wine and good times. Everything from the salad to the appetizers to the entrees was great! The food was priced correctly and was served with a smile and tasted fantastic. Not all the ones are from Connecticut many are actually from other countries, but barreled in CT. I would definitely go back in recommend this to any of my friends"

  • "We have fined here on 4 occasions as of this review. Even though we've only tried a small portion of the menu, everything we've tried has been fantastic. The prices are excellent and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to go in the summer and sit outside. Has the feel of a Napa/Sonoma winery. If you love Napa then don't miss a chance to try out the Bistro at Chamard. You won't be disappointed."
