Diner Reviews
  • "My first impression from the outside was, "it's that the place?" Once you enter the door, you are impressed with the dining area. Looks like an old night club turned restaurant. It was dark but elegant. The menu items had a nice selection. I had sushi which was way over priced and they gave me 6 really thin pieces. My watermelon tomato salad was extremely over priced for the amount I received. Thankfully, I had a groupon but even with the groupon I spent over $100 because appetizers weren't included and they charged us an extra $6 per entree because it wasn't part of the groupon. Overall, not worth the groupon and not worth spending money for dinner. I've eaten at better places where food was delicious and prices were reasonable."

  • "Rarely do date plans go according to plan. Fortunately, this night went perfectly. Reservations were @ 9PM Saturday night. I called ahead of time to ensure we were able to get the canopy-style table. Unbelievably, traffic was non-existent from Queens to Paramus, NJ and we got there in 30 min. We go in @ 8:45PM & the place just looks amazing, from the decor to the nice lighting. We're greeted by a nice hostess who tells us our table is almost ready so we go to the bar and get some drinks. Bartender was nice and made some nice drinks. We were greeted by a nice waitress who told us exactly what we can get with our Groupon deal. We ended getting extra stuff but it was all well worth it. Amazing decor, amazing service, amazing food!!"

  • "I've been there 4 time already the 3rd time been a few years ago. I've never been served by someone so courteous, friendly as David. He knew about the food with details. You can tell he knew what he was talking about and easily understood what we wanted. He's great you should have more workers like him. He makes you want to go back. It was a great experience."

  • "Food not worth the price! Filet overcooked & salty. Need to offer more healthy veggie options for sides. Need to add more appy salads."

  • "The food was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and the decor was unique."

  • "I am a frequent diner at Chakra but for the first time my meal was just so mediocre. Didn't even finish my entree of pork tenderloins. Pretty bland. The carrot cake was so disappointing. Again, not flavorful. I normally LOVE carrot cake. I will go back because I've had so many excellent meals here. I hope this is not representative of the new summer menu."

  • "We've been several times and have always had a wonderful evening with delicious meals. I would however mention that we went this last time with a groupon which was misleading. It was still a good deal but further selective than led to believe. And, the up charge items were charged more than the difference to the included prices on the menu. (A discrepancy of $4. )"

  • "great food and beautiful setting once you are inside, but expensive!"

  • "FOOD OVERALL GOOD- NOT EXCEPTIONAL VERY DIFFERENT DESSERTS AND LIMITED CHOICES. ONE WAS NOT AVAILABLE."

  • "We returned to Chakra after a bad experience service wise because the food is very good and we like the ambience. Through the main part of dinner the service was fine. However we waited a very long time to order dessert and coffee and have it served. This was a week night as opposed to a Saturday night when the restaurant is busier. I wish they'd get their service under control. That being said, the food was delicious."

  • "Food was pretty good. Lots of romantic dates were going on here. I thought it would be Indian fusion food, but it's more of an international food selection with sushi, lamb, steak, fish, crab cakes, and a few other items. Our party tried the above items and like them, though I thought the sushi was just so-so."

  • "Very romantic setting but I would suggest that you request a cabanna like both with your reseravation. Food was ok, Wine list very good. Music excellent and not too loud. The service was excellent"

  • "Chakra was a pleasant surprise. We've driven by it many many times, but this was the first time we ate there. The crabcakes were great!"

  • " Chakra exceeds the top NYC restaurants at a lower price. The space per table is great. The decor is stunning: canopied booths, authentic Cambodian sculptures, elegant bricks (some from Indianapolis Speedway) and subdued lighting. All make it a romantic setting. Service follow the team concept and is highly professional in the best European manner. Food is fabulous. We had an octopus appetizer, simply grilled. We were offered a small complimentary sample of the corn chowder. Entrees included a pork tenderloin topped with a small dollop of BBQ, 4 huge scallops direct from Barnegat Bay and vegetarian eggplant. All were fabulous. Chakra is gourmet and not gourmand. Portions are moderate, not huge. but you'll be satisfied. Do not miss!"

  • "Wanted to try it because I have passed it numerous times going through Paramus. Thought it was very nice inside.. a good place for a romantic evening or a good place to bring a group for a birthday. The food however I found to be overpriced and mediocre. The service was ok. I felt the waiter paid less attention to us when it became clear we were not interested in buying any liquor. Overall, I probably would not go back."

  • "Chakra is a wonderful restaurant with great ambiance. I highly recommend this restaurant for romantic dinners and special events. The lighting is subdued, the atmosphere is romantic. The service is always spectacular. I only wish that there were more items for vegetarians on the menu."

  • "Can't wait to go back and try some other dishes on the menu. Entrees were a little on the high side, but worth every penny."

  • "The mighty have fallen. We have been to this place many times over the years and was are favorite restaurant. I'm not sure if it has changed owners plus this place has fell off a cliff. We never cared about the overpriced menu because we always felt it was worth it till now. The food is better than average but like another review said the portions have become very small. We used to leave feel full and carrying a doggie bag. My wife is a light eater and ate everything on her plate. We felt we got our pocket picked. Also this place needs a little sprucing up. Bathrooms are a little run down. We got there a 6:30 pm on Saturday night and it was raining and they didn't have a valet. Overpriced small food"

  • "Excellent food, I had the Veal Schnitzel and it was quite tender and buttery. It was my birthday and the perfect way to spend it with my family, who all loved their meal equally as well. "

  • "Aside from one of the most comfortable rooms to eat in, the grilled Octopus, Sea Bass, and Schnitzel only adds to your experience. This experience is not inexpensive but it is quite good."

  • "The food that I had from appetizer to main course was loaded with too much sauce/gavy. Which leads you to believe to hide quality. Not worth the price $$$"

  • "Service was great, ambiance was awesome.. But, the cost of dinner and drinks were off the charts expensive. Entrees were delicious and well presented but portions were bite sized. If you are not on a budget or really hungry I would recommend for a special occasion. Two entrees, one appetizer, 4 drinks, no dessert - $150. Bring your 401k! One hour later I was poking around my fridge."

  • "Was a real disappointment for me. They had a large party that was very loud, with a party being loud, it causes everyone else to talk louder. This takes what is suppose to be a romantic evening to be a disaster. I ordered the TC steak which everyone reviewed being amazing. I think the steak was an amazing piece of meat but lacked seasoning, didn't even seem like salt and pepper. And no salt or pepper on the table. "

  • "Traveling through on our way to NYC with an overnight stay in Paramus, we made a dinner reservation at Chacra on Thursday night. Summarizing our experience, my spouse and I agreed that the food was good, even very good, that the service was friendly but overbearing and the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty created an impression that the place lacked something. Our complements to the chef but management needs to revisit how to put some pizzazz into the place and train its servers to be more discrete and less insistent on refilling the wine glass after every sip. "

  • "Had Prix Fixe 3-course mothersday dinner. Were suprised that it was not completely packed. The flavor combinations were exquisite, the presentation inventive, and the staff extremely attentive and classy - every single one. Fortunately my teenage daughter paid attention to check. I hadn't realized that they had already added 18% gratuity. Cost, with 2 aperitifs and a glass of wine, came to $80.00 person!"

  • "We where seated in a corner booth that provided more privacy than an open area table. The service was well paced and the food was excellent. Chakra is one of my wife's favorite restaurant and we differently recommend Chakra all the time when asked about fun and enjoyable place to go."

  • "Very nice restaurant, however service was a little off. Very busy on Saturday nights. I would have given the food 5 stars, however I didn't because my bok Chou was a little gritty. They took it away when I told them but didn't replace it with anything else. One guest had looked up the wine list before arriving and requested a specific wine. They were out of it, but when pressing the issue we were told they hadn't had that wine in awhile. Online menu needs to be updated."

  • "The Cesar salad is amazing my husband truly enjoyed the beet salad. I was surprised by all the sushi, didn't realize it was that kind of restraunt. The donuts absolutely are worth every calories and the bread pudding was amazing too. I wasn't so impressed with the Amin course options."

  • "atmosphere as my friend said seems like you just entered a restaurant in the meat packing district in Manhattan. The place is dark, cozy (ambient lighting) and romantic, with semi private tent like booths. The best part is that the food is consistently good. The portions and flavors are spot on. "

  • "We went to Chakra for date night. The decor is so beautiful, soft lights and very comfortable booths. We had risotto with lobester, smooth and tasty. The pork tenderloin was marinated in beer and melted in my mouth. Husband had surf n turf - perfect. We look forward to returning to Charka soon."

  • "My partner and I had dinner here a few nights ago. It had been a long time since we had dined at the restaurant. The ambiance and service were very nice; relaxed. The wine selection was okay with a few of our favorites like Sancerre. The menu had interesting choices for appetizers. The entrees seemed more limited with steak and seafood combinations. I had a pasta dish that was tasty but a bit heavy that I didn't finish. My other half had two appetizers; lobster risotto which he liked and a crab cake which was good. While it was a nice evening and meal we didn't see a lot of other options we would come back to try. Maybe the Sea Bass?"
