This was the worst place I've been to in Irvine to date.. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, and the food arrived at 8, and the restaurant was almost empty.. terrible service/organization.. they claim 'all guests arrived at the same time' ?? I ordered soft-shell crab, which had to be eaten as quickly as possible because the floury batter was so hard I was afraid it would be inedible if it got cold.. This came served with a salad with thousand island dressing.. wow The prices are also not worth the value.. Needless to say, no more reservations at this place for me.. OpenTable this is a big miss for you guys.. this restaurant doesn't deserve to be on your 1000-point table listings (or even on your listings at all!)

  • Chakra, Great Indian Food

First time to this restaurant, Chakra is located within a small shopping center directly accross the street from UCI, the interior decoration makes you feel that you're in an Indian restaurant, I ordered the rack of Lamb and my wife ordered a chicken curry dish. The Lamb came with a bed of curry Spinch which was very good, I've never tasted anything like it before! The Lamb was good, but a bit fiberous and tough at times, my wife's chicken curry was excellent. We also ordered some of their Garlic Flat bread which was good as well, but not a lot of Garlic flavor. I would return to this restaurant, becuase overall it is very good!

This is our second time dining at Chakra. I really wanted to like this restaurant but I just don't think the food is up to our standards. Too many other better Indian restaurants that are less expensive, including Clay Oven. The place was dead both Friday nights we went so I guess we are not of a minority opinion. The sampler kebab plate was the best thing we ate. The lamb was tough and chewy, the chicken korma was very bland and the raita wasn't great either. They don't offer Chicken Tikka as an entree which disapointed my husband. The service was friendly and efficient.

I really liked the food here, everything was tasty and the service was excellent, my only problem was it was rather expensive for what we got. I don't mind paying for quality but I would like my main entree to be more than 4-5 bites of chicken. Other than that we enjoyed our meals.

  • A bad night for a good restaurant

Chakra is one of our favorite places, but tonight was a bad night. They only had one server forcing the hostess & busboy to take drink @ food orders. The A/C seemed weak too and the usually tasty good food was bland. I think we won't return on Tuesdays anymore. The hostess was great and tried her best, but the manager & owner messed up. A place as big as Chakra can't function with only one server.

The food was very good, very flavorful, but the service was really painfully slow. At one point no server was in sight for a good five minutes, and our water glasses stood empty for 10 minutes - which is something when you are eating spicy food! I hope this was just a slow night, because we liked the food, but wouldn't come back to face another long dragged out evening waiting for service.

This restaurant goes for authentic taste and modest portion sizes. We visited on a quiet, early week night. Service good; food delcious. No effort required to have intiamte coversation. The lighting was too dim and reduced the ability to view and appreciate the wonderfully presented dishes. Not cheap, but worth the $$ if you like good indian food.

The best Indian food we have found in W.L.A., and the service and ambiance is perfect. I ordered lamb chops which were delicious but a little too spicy for me, and they took the plate back very graciously, with no fuss at all. You can tell that it is important to the restaurant that their patrons leave happily, and we most certainly did. Highly recommended for food and service.

This was our second visit to Chakra. We went with another couple and had a pleasant time on the patio (the inside was a bit dark and quite loud, but the patio was much more open). The service was erratic -- friendly but forgetful (we had to ask three times for water in the first 15 minutes). The food was excellent, as it was on our previous visit.

  • Here's the scoop about Chakra...Fir
    ccffVIP
    Dined on 9/30/2011
Here's the scoop about Chakra...First let me stay the menu and food is amazing. Probably some of the best Indian food in Orange County. The problem is they never can find enought waiters to take care of the amount of people in the restaurant. They are under staffed. For example: We ate on a friday night around 6:00 and it became a little crowded and I noticed the girl who sat us at our table (hostess) was now my waitress. So, meesage to management: Hire more people and try and retain them because your food, flavors and selection are 1st rate and that is why people are willing to pay the hire then normal pricing....

Overall food was very good. We ordered the main entrees from the traditional menu and were very pleased. The quality of the meat within the dishes was better than at other Indian restaurants. The lamb tasted like lamb and there was a depth of flavor to the sauces. We also ordered a more modern appetizer - the duck - and it was excellent. I suspect that the modern menu is where this restaurant can really shine and I suspect the food will be excellent. I plan to go back again and order from modern menu. The ambience was romantic with low light level but sound does travel if this venue so if there are noisy parties then it can get a little loud. The service was very good.

I was very impressed with Chakra: the food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the ambiance pleasant. Our waiter, Kyle, had an excellent understanding of the food, how it was prepared, and wine pairings. At $7+ for naan, $15 for an average appetizer, and up to $35 per entree, it's probably the priciest Indian restaurant I've ever experienced so it's not for the budget conscious. That said, the generous portions and excellently-crafted dishes will not make you feel like you've wasted your money.

I consider myself someone who enjoys good food of a wide variety - from homestyle mid-western U.S. comfort foods to sushi and beyond - and I enjoy everything from a taco truck on the corner near work to an elegant tasting manu with wine pairings (when the mood and the economy are in alignment). This weekend my fiance and I were craving Indian food and happened to have a Restaurant.com gift certificate for Chakra. Tucked into a shopping center in Irvine, I wasn't expecting much, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The interior of the restaurant was quite dark event at 6pm, but the sunset through the stained glass windows made for great ambiance. The menu is quite robust with a wide range of what our waiter called more tradi

We LOVE this place. We love indian food and try it internationally every chance we can, and think this ranks right up with the best. The Chettindadu (chicken) has the most incredible curry sauce...mild, creamy--get out the naan! Loved the lamb Hyderbadi-creamy curry sauce and tender lamb. The interior is wonderfully decorated, love looking around. A little pricey for weeknight meals once you add naan, veggie and wine but great for a special occasion. One of the top three in the OC in my opinon.

this is the most unauthentic Indian food we have every had. Groupon is what brought us here and we both were sorely disappointed. TNo spices were in the food, and much of the food was sweet, as if sugar had been placed in it. Dal which is a special favorite of ours looked so pretty in the bowl but was really uneatable because it was so sweet. We will not go back.
