Diner Reviews
  • "I had dinner with my wife and a couple of great friends and all of us enjoyed the food and drinks. We are keeping this Restaurant as one of our favorite places to go out. In addition, we stopped at Bar to have some drinks and enjoyed the music and danced for a while."

  • "Quite expensive --especially appetizers and salads -- for an informal place -- but very good food"

  • "The food is excellent, the best in downtown Bethesda by far on a regular basis. It is too bad that there is so little competition for a high end restaurant."

  • "When we go out with my mother and another friend, both in their 90's, we need a quiet place, and we were hoping Cesco would be that. It was - the tables are well-spaced and the noise level was very low. (Can't be sure how it would be if it were crowded, but it wasn't on Saturday.) When making our Open Table reservation, I had asked for a quiet location, if possible at a window, and when we arrived, the hostess showed us to a delightful table in a two-window corner. I greatly appreciated their attentiveness to the reservation request. Our waiter and the assisting waitstaff were very friendly and capable. The food was delicious, from my grilled grouper filet with lemon-sauced linguini to my daugher'e fettucine with wild boar ragout."

  • "Unfamiliar with area restaurants, we tried Cesco Osteria after some online research and it was fantastic! Scallop appetizer had an interesting combination of flavors that beautifully enhanced each other with each bite. Entrees we chose were tortellini in a sage butter sauce and the cannelloni stuffed with veal, spinach, ricotta - both outstanding. Service was well timed, never intrusive, and we felt at home to relax at the end of our meal over coffee. Wish we were local as this would be a new favorite place to dine, but will certainly return when in the area and will recommend to others! Our thanks for a lovely evening."

  • "This is a very fine restaurant. Our dinners and service were exceptionally good. Everything is fresh -- the greens, the fish. And the presentations of our meals were beautiful. We will return soon."

  • "We've been to Cesco several times and have always enjoyed the food, ambience and service. Unfortunately this time the food was terrible. From our group of 6, three ordered the pan seared tuna which turned out to be disastrous .. The tuna was a tasteless and seemed previously frozen tuna, something one should never, never use when serving seared tuna. Use fresh tuna esp if you are charging $30. Another ordered pizza which was mediocre, filet mignon was very good and my grilled sea bass was ok though the accompanying grilled veggies was great. Service was good though the waiter needs to better understand the difference between fresh & wild salmon vs. Farm raised salmon. Overall, ambient was good but disappointing with the awful tuna."

  • "Food is excellent, service has been consistently awful. We liked this resturant much more before it moved to the new location. It had a much more personalized feel, guests received great attention and waiters took pride in the food. It is now so big, waiter seem overwhelmed and not knowledgeable about food or wine. If service would get up to par- it would be great again. Do not go if you are in a rush. If you have time to enjoy a bottle of wine prior to food arriving (which you will have time to do), cure your drunkenness with the heavy, yet delectable, butternut squash ravioli: every bite will make the experience worth it."

  • "The food was great. Great pasta and sauces. Francesco and his wife have a beautiful restaurant with excellent service."

  • "First time visit, based on positive reviews. Like some of those reviews, we found the food to be excellent from opening free appetizer to dessert, but the service was somewhat spotty. The staff was initially very attentive and helpful, but later, when the room became more than half full, it took some extended waiting until someone came along to bring the check. We will return for a special occasion type meal, however."

  • "VERY IMPORTANT feedback to the restaurant: management and staff BOTH - as providers of food services and advice -need very clear understanding of what it means when a customer says: "gluten free". NO WHEAT, NO BARLEY, NO BARLEY, NO MALT PRODUCTS. NONE. NO BREAD, NO BREAD CRUMBS, NO EGGPLANT LASAGNE (served as a side ON the plate with entree), NO COOKIE STUCK IN THE ICE CREAM. YES: rice, potato, quinoa, meat, cheese, poultry, fish, chocolate, dairy. 3 years ago, people werent as familiar ; no excuse today."

  • "This is an excellent restaurant. We had four wonderful dinners that ranged from beef to chicken to tuna -- all perfectly prepared with a very nice presentation. The restaurant also accommodated a few special requests for substitutions without any problem. The service was professional and friendly. So, we loved the dinners, loved the presentation, and loved the service. 5 stars for sure!!!!"

  • "I went with a girlfriend on a Saturday night. Our server treated us like we were children, did not check on us once after our food arrived. I asked him questions about our meals, and he looked at me like I had three heads. I had to grab random servers for pepper on my dish (none on the table), and to refill my water, which sat there empty for a good 20 minutes. We even had to get someone else to get our check. Food was okay...nothing special. When we left I was going to ask someone up front for a manager, but there was nobody there. Might have just been our server who was a bit snooty, but I am not recommending this place to anyone and am very disappointed."

  • "Came here because I could not make a reservation a one of my other favorite Bethesda restaurants for Valentine's Day. Read the reviews and looked at the menu and took a chance. Food and service was fabulous. I ordered the Valentine special. Caviar, lobster bisque, oysters rockafeller, linguini and lobster, duck and tiramisu for dessert. My wife had beet salad, shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and I don't recall her dessert. She had a glass of wine she said was great and we had unbelievable french press coffee with dessert. I hope peple discover this place. Park at the metro and walk over. Would like to try this during the Spring to sit outside."

  • "My wife and I really enjoyed the special menu. The service was friendly and reasonably prompt considering the crowd. Found a nice bottle of wine to share."

  • "Great service, special Valentine menu was very good. Wine selection was good but not great. Blonder bisque was excellent; rigatoni with wild boar was excellent. I will return to eat off the normal menu and I would recommend this Restuarant to others."

  • "We dines at Cesco on Valentines Day with a pre-set menu. Thus food was good (didn't knock our socks off) & the service was good (again not great). It felt that they were in the "get them in & back out" mode. My wife & I are interested to see how this restaurant is on a normal day..."

  • "We went on Valentine's Day with a group of four. We arrived at 6 pm for a four course fixed price dinner. The service was so slow we had to get up to get the check and we didn't leave until 8:30 pm. We had to ask several wait staff for a second round of drinks, and also ask for each next course. We were an hour late for a performance that night due to the slow service. The seafood dishes were outsanding. Could have skippped the lobster bisque. The risotto was outstanding. Desert was good, not outstanding. Nice corner table for four, nice setting. Nice touch, rose to all ladies."

  • "I had been to Restuarant a few times for lunch and was very pleased so decided to try your special dinner menu on Valentines Day. Wow, what a huge disappointment! No kids menu, horrible service, subpar food, and no attempt by manager or other staff to accelerate service when I asked. I truly started to walk out after the first course took 1 hour and we didn't even receive the preliminary soup and salmon.Could have just been inability to handle Valentines Day. I own a company around the corner so Cessco is convenient for taking staff and clients but would not use again unless a make up is offered and the experience is 100% better."

  • "Visiting the area, my daughter and I were looking for a nice dining experience and delicious food. Most importantly, we wanted to be able to accommodate our multiple food allergies, including milk protein. We were thrilled to not only be able to find amazing items on the menu that met our needs, but our server and the chef adjusted appetizers and entrees to meet our needs. Many restaurants will give you plain fish or plain meat (boring and nasty), but Cesco Osteria went far beyond, creatively adjusting their appetizers and entrees so that they were allergen friendly AND still a culinary delight. Plus, the server never blinked an eye at adjusting to meet our needs. It was a great experience! We would go back in a heartbeat."

  • "We were looking for a place to have a rehearsal dinner. Hard to find a place near a metro, not a "chain", with ambiance, for more than 25 people. We knew the chef was terrific, so decided to have dinner there to try it out. The pasta was delicious, the veal was the best my husband ever had and a bonus, the private room is great for the dinner. I am looking forward to the dinner and eating there again!"

  • "Just two blocks from the "beaten path" of Bethesda's restaurant row, once you find it, the access to this restaurant is easy. The food as prepared was fresh, excellent Tuscan cuisine. Graciously changed without charge a wine by glass when we were not pleased. Replacement wine was lovely. Delicious complimentary starters. Robust Tuscan rebollita soup. The octopus cerviche was memorable. Their halibut was perfectly prepared. We dined with another couple and could actually hear one another without straining our voices or ears. (By the way, their gelato is excellent.) We will return and encourage others to give this restaurant a chance. It is a "keeper"."

  • "Great Saturday night place for a special meal. Celebrated my daughter's end of high school semester. We are return customers. Food always great with a lot of special touches. Service was outstanding. Our waitress was very helpful. We were there on the early side-great table and lovely ambiance."

  • "My wife and I walked out of a restaurant for the first time in our lives. We sat for 30 minutes and was not greeted by our server. A manager came over to take drink orders and explained that the server was overwhelmed but we sat longer and the drinks never came. Granted this was New Year's Eve so we were extra patient, but the amount of time without being acknowledged was unacceptable."

  • "This is truly one of my all time favorites. The ambiance is rich without being stuffy. The menu is simplified Italian but put together by Francisco in a way only a true Florentine could. He and his partner Elaine take exquisite care of each guest. The wine list is impressive but there is a bottle for every budget. Try their New Orleans inspired Sazerac cocktail."

  • "The restaurant has a beautiful decor. It is a white tablecloth restaurant. The food is good, but stick to the specials. It is handy to where I live, so I go there for special occasions such as birthdays, etc."

  • "From the Business Lunch crowd to the Happy Hour crowd... it has it all. I love coming here for quiet, upscale lunches. I can hear the other person talking, the food is delicious, and very time-efficient. During Happy Hours they also have live music sometimes. I've been to Cesco's many times, big fan!"

  • "The risotto was the most outstanding that I've eaten since a trip to Sicily in 2004! ; salad was delicious; my fish - sea bass was beautifully cooked and flavored with herbs & lemon juice, accompanied by delicious roasted vegetables & mashed potatoes; some of the servings could be less, for example, the veal chop, which was enormous! Nice choice also of desserts, and our wine, Barolo was lovely. Altogether lovely evening to celebrate my husband's birthday. My only comment -- not the restaurant's fault, but somehow my Open Table reservation didn't get to them so they had no record of my reservation. This makes me more likely to contact restaurants directly rather than use Open Table in the future."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant and we will go back. The waiter was excellent and very attentive. The menu is varied and offers the best selection of fish and seafood of any Italian Restaurant in this area, and there is plenty of competition. The food was excellently prepared and very tasty."

  • "First visit, and Cesco was a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered was very good, and there's enough variety on the menu to cover a variety of preferences -- traditional, vegetarian, gluten-free. We'll definitely return."

  • "We went to Cesco Osteria for New Year's Eve. What a mistake. It was clear from the first 12 minutes after we were seated, when waiters were running past us and we got not even a glass of water, that the staff was over whelmed. The food had wonderful flavor but was served at room temperature. There were hints that this could be really good if it were served when it was made. The best part of the meal was a fantastic 2004 Barbera. When I called the friend who recommended the restaurant he was dumb founded."
