Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Cesco a couple of times, and it did not disappoint me. My friend was so happy I had introduced her to it, and she wants to bring her husband next time! Great food and service, and beautiful restaurant."

  • "We went Sat. night for a nice dinner. First, my wife and I had different special menus which caused some confusion. When we got that straightened out, we ordered. I had soup to start which came out about 30 seconds after we ordered. As soon as I put my soup spoon down the main course was delivered. We could have had our nice Sat. dinner in about 20minutes. they need to learn a little about spacing the meal so the dinner could be enjoyed better. We ended up taking our time drinking our wine but the rushed feeling was not good. I must say, the food was well prepared and tasted very good. We will try it again, but will tell them to slow down."

  • "A completely lovely evening with our friends. Could not have been better."

  • "Great food-- chef and owner is as authentically Italian as his food and it shows. Elaine is usually up front to greet everyone and hand them off to a competent and friendly server. Perfectly done fish and pastas. Tasty beef and lamb as well as a great selection of first courses. No matter what you order, it will not disappoint. Save room for dessert--gelato or profiteroles are my favorites. Recently, they have started serving Sunday brunch. If it's a nice day, try to get a table outside-- a great way to start a day."

  • "Thanks to Cesco. I asked for a quiet table and got one. Had a great meeting with great food and drink. Excellent service! We will be back."

  • "Enjoy a pleasant evening with well presented tasty Italian food. Good menu choices. 4 star pricing. Can be noisy. Entertainment in bar after 10 PM on Friday and Saturday with dancing. Also dance music earlier than 10."

  • "Very pleased with the food, wine and service. Great recommendations from the server. Best tiramisu I have had in years!"

  • "The food and friendly service is still the standout. It's a relaxing and nice environment. Gratis Focaccia, etc are a lovely touch."

  • "Francesco Ricchi has a long and rich history with successful Northern Italian restaurants and Cesco Osteria is no exception. Ate there last week on a business dinner, beating a thunderstorm by seconds that kept the restaurant relatively empty. I had the beet salad, followed by the squid ink tagliolini with shrimp and calamari, paired with a nice Barbera. Delicious. Service was attentive but not suffocating. Just right."

  • "My husband and I had the privilege of dining here during the 4th of July wknd. I can only comment on the French Toast and Omlette. The food was deliciously fresh and aesthetically pleasing. The carafe of Mimosa was also tasty. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. I plan on visiting again and again."

  • "We always enjoy a visit to Cesco's and a recent dinner for two was no exception. The appetizer selections are extensive and generous, and the pastas always freshly made and satisfying. We love the attentive service. It's great to be able to park under the restaurant or arrive via metro."

  • "As always, our experience was outstandingly great with excellent food and service."

  • "We've been to this restaurant several times in both the new and old locations. The food is remarkably good, including some nice bread options that were brought to the table. One need not spend a lot to get a terrific meal. There are good lower cost options on the menu. Most recently, there were several service failures, including wine that wasn't delivered to one diner despite two requests. We would also go for a long time without being visited by the waiter. This wouldn't prevent us from returning, but it detract from what would have been a better experience."

  • "The salmon was well prepared and placed on a bed of spinach, goat cheese, and wild onion. The list of wines by the glass is brief, but well chosen and reasonably priced. The weakest part of the meal was the small double espresso at the end of the meal, one which was noticeably lacking in the deep flavor of that which I prepare at home. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. While I like the separation of the dining room into informal and formal areas, the former is far too large. It has the feeling of eating in a hotel ballroom. I can just imagine the noise level when it is full."

  • "Went there for dinner with a good friend. The staff was so courteous. Our waiter was great at helping us select the perfect bottle of wine to pair with our meal. We got mussels and pasta to share. Delicious! I ordered the trout stuffed with crab and spinach. It was yummy but I could only eat half because I had to save room for dessert. The atmosphere was chill and relaxing. Definitely a great spot to hang out in Bethesda."

  • "I had been here once before long ago. Thought I'd try it again and take father in-law here for Father's Day. I ordered from the brunch menu and he order from the dinner menu.He had the chicken and vegetables. It was fine... I had a in house made ravioli w/ gnocchi on the side. Everything was expertly presented and was so fresh and tasty I think I'll make this a regular place to visit often. Want to try everything else they have on the menu. Great place. Elegant, tasty great service with lots of smiles."

  • "Food bland, not presented well, service lackluster, disappointing service. Asked to speak to Chef and was told he went home..."

  • "My boyfriend and I dined here to celebrate his birthday. The menu looked fantastic, and we were looking forward to was delicious, flavorful Italian food. What we got can only be described as average at best. The food wasn't bad; it was just rather bland. If the food was average, the service was definitely below average. I had read other reviews that complained of Cesco's poor service, but I decided to give the place a chance. Anyone can have a bad night, right? Well, we spent over two hours at dinner that night. This is not because we were leisurely eating throughout the evening, rather we did a lot of waiting. We watched as the tables around us were consistently served everything from bread to entrees before us."

  • "Cesco has a superb hand with pasta,. homemade and perfectly presented. Try a 3 pasta sampler as an appetizer if you can't decide among the selections. Fish and meat are done to perfection with a Tuscan flare. Cesco, the chef and owner, circulates the dining room and makes diners welcome when he's not cooking something splendid in the kitchen. His charm and happiness to be cooking for you personalizes the experience. If you still have room for dessert, they are delectable."

  • "I don't normally gripe about the service, but there were some gaps here. On the plus side, we asked our waiter to recommend a wine, and he helped us order one we really liked. But we were promised outside seating, and instead were seated in the frigid indoors. There also was a very long wait between our soup and our entrees. But the food was good. My wife and I both had a delicious corn soup; I had ravioli in a delicious pistachio sauce , while my wife had pasta with a nicely seasoned rabbit sauce. I'm sure I'll go again."

  • "The Mother's Day brunch was outstanding. The wide sea food selection, excellent tenderloin, and imaginative salads were sure to satisfy any food lovers appetite, while at the same time offering kid friendly pasta dishes and a traditional breakfast station. The Pinot Grigio selection nicely complemented the sea food and was reasonably priced."

  • "Brunch..... Very good...... a little pricey ($45) for a brunch, but it was still pretty good........ its hard to find a good brunch place in Bethesda anymore. We have eaten dinner there before and it was very good."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "We went for Mother's Day Brunch. They were disorganized, the food on the buffet was not replenished, the buffet was not cleaned up and left messy and the service was not good. It cost $45 per adult and was not worth half of that amount. "

  • "We had a great Mother's Day Brunch at Cesco Osteria. We have loved Cesco's since they first opened in Bethesda and they have only gotten better in their new location."

  • "We came here for Mother's Day brunch. The price looked great online and the menu would work for one person's allergies. The staff was nice, polite, and made something special for that allergy guest. However, the price. According to reviews and their online menu, the pricing was $30 and under. But when we came to the restaurant, they had a fixed buffet brunch for Mother's Day priced at $45 PER PERSON! This did not even include coffee. There was no indication anywhere that they will be charging this amount nor was there any indication that they will be having a brunch buffet. While the food and the staff were great, the fact that they snuck in this ridiculous pricing and no normal menu for light eaters, I feel like they took advantage. "

  • "Terrific restaurant, fantastic food, but the main dining room needs more waiters. We were almost never asked if we needed anything, and had to wait forever for drink refills. "

  • "I took my parents here to meet my boyfriend for the first time and it was an excellent experience. There is a great cocktail list and wine list. The food was top notch! The only thing that was a bit lacking was the server seemed overwhelmed with the number of tables he was taking care of. Our food came out on time and was excellent. "

  • "Excellent overall. I have been twice there. Quick and knowledgeable service. Bistecca is a highlight. Made for carnivores! Wine list is good and well priced. Good selection of half bottles, which is unusual. "

  • "Entrees were fabulous. I've had better desserts, nothing special here. The service was really slow. We had five waiters come to our table and help us but never followed thru with service until the last waiter. Our food orders were passed on several times to different waiters and therefore our order had things missing. Overall appetizers and entrees were very tasty but service in the beginning was horrible. "

  • "The food was mediocre at best. We all had fish. The halibut was ok, but the rockfish with crab was not good. Not spoiled, just tasteless and over cooked. Potatoes were uneatable and vegetables mediocre... So sorry since i used to like Cesco several years ago when it was over on Norfolk. "

  • "I think this is the third time we've been to Cesco now and I don't think we've had a single disappointing dish. It doesn't stand out for inventiveness, a la Jose Andres, but the food is always perfectly prepared, the selection large enough to cover a variety of tastes, and the service a perfect balance between too attentive and not attentive enough."

  • "Easter is such a busy day, but thanks to Open Table I found a place at a great restaurant, Cesco Osteria. We were a party of four and a baby. I loved the Veal chop I ordered, the portion size was so generous, I had to take some home. The others were so happy with their fish and spaghetti dishes. I was so nice that the baby got her food first. By the time we started eating, she had already ate her food and remained quiet. The ambience is so nice and quiet."

  • "I had dinner with my wife and a couple of great friends and all of us enjoyed the food and drinks. We are keeping this Restaurant as one of our favorite places to go out. In addition, we stopped at Bar to have some drinks and enjoyed the music and danced for a while."

  • "Quite expensive --especially appetizers and salads -- for an informal place -- but very good food"

  • "The food is excellent, the best in downtown Bethesda by far on a regular basis. It is too bad that there is so little competition for a high end restaurant."

  • "When we go out with my mother and another friend, both in their 90's, we need a quiet place, and we were hoping Cesco would be that. It was - the tables are well-spaced and the noise level was very low. (Can't be sure how it would be if it were crowded, but it wasn't on Saturday.) When making our Open Table reservation, I had asked for a quiet location, if possible at a window, and when we arrived, the hostess showed us to a delightful table in a two-window corner. I greatly appreciated their attentiveness to the reservation request. Our waiter and the assisting waitstaff were very friendly and capable. The food was delicious, from my grilled grouper filet with lemon-sauced linguini to my daugher'e fettucine with wild boar ragout."

  • "Unfamiliar with area restaurants, we tried Cesco Osteria after some online research and it was fantastic! Scallop appetizer had an interesting combination of flavors that beautifully enhanced each other with each bite. Entrees we chose were tortellini in a sage butter sauce and the cannelloni stuffed with veal, spinach, ricotta - both outstanding. Service was well timed, never intrusive, and we felt at home to relax at the end of our meal over coffee. Wish we were local as this would be a new favorite place to dine, but will certainly return when in the area and will recommend to others! Our thanks for a lovely evening."
