Diner Reviews
  • "No matter how many times I go, I find it difficult to choose from all the options. I especially like the lunch selection and enjoy hearing my guests exclaim how much they enjoy their choices. It makes me wish I could get a double order each time I go! Favorites are the duck for the entree, the pumpkin soup and the brussel sprouts as side dishes."

  • "My husband and I are trying to enjoy as many date nights as we can before the arrival of our first child. Everything about Cerulean made the evening perfect! The food is incredible and creative without trying too hard. They were able to answer my questions and accommodate dietary restrictions, as well. The portion sizes did not disappoint. We enjoyed the full 4 courses and left feeling full but not uncomfortably so. My husband really enjoyed the cocktails and the whiskey flight, and the bartender even made special mocktails just for me! The decor is lovely and modern, but again, without going overboard. The service was impeccable! From the valet to all of the wait staff, they really made the experience for us! Thank you!!"

  • "I was entertaining two members of a marketing group in town to shoot videos for my Oral Surgery practice. They consider themselves foodies and had just been in Portland. They we're throughly impressed with Cerulean. Drinks and food were excellent. My wife and I have dined numerous times here and have always enjoyed the experience."

  • "one of our new favorites. great elegant modern atmosphere. we dined in late evening, terrific food, just wish for a touch larger portions, otherwise, this place is a 5/5."

  • "The food was at a amazing level for midwest. It had nice plating with a simple molecular spin. The foie gras was amazing. The desserts are competition grade with many gastro themes and deconstruction's. I love this and will be back for tasting menu."

  • "I mentioned it was our anniversary on our reservation. From the moment we entered the staff made us feel like they were celebrating with us. Everyone wished us a happy anniversary. The wait staff was very helpful in making recommendations about the menu. We shared a small plate (the scallops -- yum!) and a medium plate (the egg ravioli -- perfectly cooked) and then each had an large plate (salmon and the duck). I can only speak about the duck, and it was wonderful! So tender. The pasta was really good, too. We also had cocktails that were very good, and then dessert. The desserts were good, but they were special because they decorated them for our special occasion. A wonderful place to go for a special occasion."

  • "I had the pork. Followed the chef suggestion and ordered it medium. It was juicy, not pink and perfectly cooked. The baked bean hummus was absolutely delicious!"

  • "The food and ambiance were both very good, but the service was superb. Everyone involved with our experience knew that it was our anniversary and wished us well."

  • "We came for the duck, but our very awesome honest waitress suggested we wait until next time because the up and coming new preparation will be more notable than the current edition. We enjoyed several other courses including the scallops- which were amazing, the lamb was O.K.- the presentation of all the dishes excellent including dessert- and the service was great! Only weird thing-I know it is cool for the chef to send something unsolicited... but the bit of buttered radish on the block of wood was just, well weird, in my opinion. The block of wood was clever, the radish not so much."

  • "Aleya our server was amazing and very friendly! The kitchen did an amazing job in adapting dishes to my girlfriend's Vegan diet. We had a wonderful 7 year Anniversary dinner. Thank you!"

  • "Our server - Benjamin, I believe, was friendly and knowledgable, and the atmosphere very nice. His recommended scallops were a solid starter, though it was the bread and spreads that really did it for me. Sweet cherry ... Wow. My wild salmon entree was undercooked, unfortunately, the only negative part of an otherwise great experience."

  • "Cerulean is one of my favorite restaurants. The recipes are superb and unique. Their servers are usually excellent and very well trained. This restaurant has unique dining options and they are usually very good at describing and recommending. The restaurant on this night was not on their game. I was entertaining two Europeans who love bread. Cerulean has good bread for $2 per serving, however we ordered and it would be delayed. The third basket never arrived. I spoke with the manager and expressed my concern that our server was not getting the bread for us, but flat water was being poured in sparkling glasses, wine from table in wrong glass, and etc. They are usually very service oriented."

  • "We were lucky to get a window table. The food was terrific in taste and presentation, and my wine was great. Service was very good and very relaxed and friendly. However, at the end the waiter got busy and we had to wait a bit for someone to take and process our credit cards. The valet parking is a nice option, and the restaurant will validate your parking ticket, which saves $5. This is a great addition to downtown Indianapolis restaurant choices."

  • "We did the daily Chef's Tasting menu and everything from the graciously hospitable service provided by Ben, Tracie and Jake to the incredible presentation and flavor of the culinary masterpieces to the wine selections were spot on perfect! If you haven't tried their tasting menu you most certainly must! Thanks for a most memorable evening!"

  • "My husband and I dined at Cerulean for our anniversary. They did a special tasting menu for us, 6 courses that the chef chose, complete with an amuse bouche, intermezzo and mignardises. Each bite was a thrilling experience. Our waitperson, Megan, was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Jake chose a perfect bottle of wine that complimented our meal. we were there for about 3 hours and thoroughly enjoyed every moment, relaxing and certainly not rushed."

  • "The restaurant in the newer Alexander Hotel. Unique food. Fabulous desserts. The waiter, Rob, was phenomenal. Described every menu item. The menu is small with not many choices. But the choices are wonderful. We were with a group of 7 and each of us had different entrees and a few small plates. Everyone liked their meals. Many items are local. I would recommend this for the food, service, and beautiful arty atmosphere."

  • "The food was amazing! Definitely my top 5 favorite restaurant! The plateing looked like paintings! Each plate was more and more delicious! My first time in Indianapolis, and had this as a last night meal, was beyond my expectations! "

  • "Arrived early, stopped in the bar for a drink. No water offered, no conversation, only 3 other people at the bar, bar tab must be paid before being seated. But why would we want to see an itemized bill when it's only 2 drinks? Gin and tonic and a Manhattan=$11 and $12 respectively, based on the menu. Bill was for $27 (WOW those must be some downtown taxes?); provided a tip and ended up paying a $32 tab. These are not "house-specialty" drinks folks? Steep bar prices by my terms. "

  • "We are frequent Indy high-end restaurant goers, had heard the buzz about Cerulean, and overall really enjoyed this dinner. Great service, food quality, portions, service, location,... However, the menu was confusing, compared to many other similar restaurants (even our waiter found it hard to explain). Also, the cost rating in $ signs are $$ and $$$$ depending on which dining site you view, which caused my "Great but Expensive" reaction."

  • "This was my first trip to Cerulean, but it won't be my last. The food was great. The chef married different flavors for a wonderful end result. Our server was knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and friendly. It was a great evening."

  • "We went to celebrate my mom's birthday and loved the food. It also had a modern, cool vibe to it. Because it was a weekday evening, there weren't tons of people there. However, we did have a semi-long wait time for our appetizers, and really long for the main meal (as in the appetizers just whet our appetites and our stomachs were growling/wine was going to our heads by the time the main meal came). Was it worth the wait? Definitely yes, but it didn't seem like they were that busy to justify waiting so long."

  • "The food is pretty good at Cerulean, but the promise of complex, interesting flavors is truly fulfilled with dessert. The course that's typically a take it or leave it experience at most restaurants, is what lingers in your mind weeks later. The rest of the meal was good but the flavors were a bit muddled. We started with the strawberry gazpacho, which was delightful. Not too sweet and it made for a refreshing start to the meal. The chicken special was the best overall dish. The chicken was moist and the accompanying vegetables were tender and flavorful. The pork was our least favorite. The pork was dry and the flavors not all that interesting. What saved the dish was the marjoram biscuit (toasty & tasty) and the parsnip purée."

  • "Cerulean is a fun, exciting, and interesting restaurant. The interior is beautiful and relaxed. The food is an amity of rich lush flavors that keep your taste palette on edge. Every course is light and elegant; but, you get full and still feel good about yourself! The signature garden outside the restaurant speaks to the freshness of the garden-to-table fare. A bonus is a tour of the Alexander hotel afterward which boasts unique art commissioned by the Indianapolis Museum of Art."

  • "We found the food at Cerulean to be delicious, and enjoyed the variety we selected. However, our server was often missing even though the restaurant was only half full and not busy at all. It took 20 minutes just to get our pre dinner drinks, and after being seated at 8pm we did not finish with dessert until after 11 pm! Very slow service ......"

  • "Very nice setting and design. Our server was excellent and knowledgable about both the food and the wine. The menu is interesting and offers three different plate sizes to chose from, and they do not mind if you chose multiple small plates....no pressure at all to order big. But there were two problems for us. 1. The kitchen was very very slow....there was a inexcusable lag between courses, and this was on an evening when it was not really that busy. 2. They have decided to charge 1/3 of the cost of a bottle for a glass of wine and that is excessive and not at all consumer friendly. And to make matters worse on that score, it was a very poor pour....maybe 5 ounces, maybe 6....disguised in a stemless glass that made it hard to figure out."

  • "I lived in NYC for 5 years and have eaten at some of the finest restaurants from some of the top chefs in the US and I have to say the meal I had here was one of the top 5 I've ever had. Every dish, every detail, simply perfect. The combination of flavors and textures, masterful. I had never been to Indiana and I would return simply to dine at Cerulean again."

  • "Wonderful elegant lunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. For the elegant meal, generous servings, and professional service- it's a great value for lunch. We both loved the panko chicken. We discovered that the goat cheese custard WITH the chicken in one bite is fabulous! Recommend the cheese cake for dessert. "
