Cerulean - IndianapolisFoodie placeExcellent food, but those small portions like you see on Iron Chef. Would definitely recommend the cauliflower fritas (they look like fried mozzarella, but it's pureed cauliflower instead) but not the rhubarb crumble. That was 3 slices of rhubarb with little crumbles & some sort of dot of cream. Different & tasty, but definitely disappointed in the portion size. The asparagus soup was very good, as was the duck & monkfish. Don't let the fact that one of the monkfish ingredients is a marshmallow. It's weird, but it works. The short ribs were recommended by 2 different people; next time I'll have to try them5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCerulean - AmazingGreat food for both myself and my dinner mate. From start to finish - was impressed by the meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ExperienceFrom the atmosphere and the service to the food, our experience was outstanding. My wife and I visited to celebrate our anniversary. When a representative from the restaurant called to verify our reservation, she also asked if we were celebrating anything special. I informed her of our anniversary and when we arrived there was a special celebratory drink at our table. It was very nice that they took the time to make our dining experience extra special. We were very pleased with the entire experience and will be visiting again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Service and Good FoodKnew nothing about this place and wow, it was a great surprise! Food served as small dishes and a few courses. Food is pretty on the plate, like magazine pics and it tastes great too! The restaurant dinning area is just awesome and decorated in a very modern theme. Ok, the best of best was Miranda. She was our server and just amazing. She explained all the foods and favors as each of the dishes came out. Great food and drink recommendations. She became a huge part of the whole dining experience. Very natural, helpful, and friendly. We were celebrating a birthday, so it was natural to ask her to be in the picture with us! We eat out at a lot of nicer restaurants and this one has the total package!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant in INDY!!The food is remarkable. The service is spectacular. I have never had a better meal anywhere.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary stayWe had a very good experience. The room was modern and very clean, large, great view of the city. Plat 99 was a fun bar before dinner, also with a great view, knowledgable bartender who made it interesting. We ate dinner at Cerulean, great atmosphere and food.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at the CeruleanExcellent service, beautiful restaurant. I had a NYC experience in my own home town. The "fried bread" was to die for; and, I liked the flow of the meal - small bites that progressed to the entree. I would have liked at least two shrimp during the first course; but, I do plan to return soon. It is nice to eat locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables in season.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly Recomend ItI agree with most of the reviews that this place is as good as it gets for a special evening out. Do not agree with some reviews that complain about serving size, cost or that the restauratn is trying to be something it isn't. They have an assortment of small plates at $4 and larger appetizer in a higher dollar range. The main courses were large enough that my wife finished only half (short ribs) and finished all the duck breast, but was stuffed. The prices were what you would expect (try eating in another city). Serve was fantastic. Wait staf was not overly bothersome, but always there when we needed them. Will definitely go back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat addition to IndyCerulean offers lovely decor, an outstanding, eclectic wine and cocktail list, and excellent food. Atmosphere is very cool.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe made reservations basedWe made reservations based on the great reviews. We found the food to be eclectic, flavorful, not ordinary in any way. The server was energetic, friendly and helpful in explaining the menu items. The physical space was modern and clean. Compared to other restaurants we have been to, we did find it to be a little more expensive. Overall, we would recommend for a nice dinner out.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our timeWe really enjoyed our time at Cerulean Indianapolis. We are so glad we tried a variety of things on the menu. Even though we had some picky eaters with us, everyone enjoyed EVERY BITE! The service was excellent, our waiter was knowledgeable and not too clingy, and the tour of the kitchen was an extra treat! Thank you for making our trip to Indianapolis worth it!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent!! ThisThe food is excellent!! This isn't a place to go if you want big servings of mediocre food. But if you love quality, uniquely prepared items, and great service, you'll love it.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy experience at CeruleanMy experience at Cerulean was perfectly in line with the vision of communication, communion and joy. I was delighted by our friendly and inviting waitress, inspired by the elegant creativity in the preparation and presentation of the food, and perfectly content to enjoy the process of the dinner through the many flavors and conversations. I absolutely recommend Cerulean to anyone who wants to spend quality time with people they enjoy and a meal that revives a desire to support sustainable and mindful businesses.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent in every category.Excellent in every category. Pricy but worth it on special occasions. But.... don't wear jeans.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate in the Nest becauseWe ate in the Nest because it was quieter and more intimate. It was my husband's birthday and we had a free dessert, which wasn't the best part of the meal. Presentation was beautiful, service with Dan was great. My trout tasty and well cooked, but the monkfish, not so much. Really small portion and sort of dry and tasteless.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, best in Indianapolis!Celebrated my birthday dinner with my husband here. We had a wonderful booth overlooking the outside. The table setting with beautiful centerpiece was amazing! The decor is outstanding, relaxing, and energizing. The food was incredible and the best part of the experience. Our service was outstanding, everyone greets you with a smile, our server was helpful in describing our plates and what everything was on the plate (the menu is a bit unusual but not so unusual you aren't interested in eating it). All the food is from Indiana purveyors so they incorporate a lot of ingredients like dandilions, fish and meat from Indiana purveyors. They even roast their own coffee. Everything here is amazing. It's worth coming here!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! This was a great dateWow! This was a great date night. The food was more than we could have imagined, and the presentation was picture perfect. Also...must have the rhubarb dessert. Yum!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food combinations areThe food combinations are very unique, well-presented and delicious. My favorite was the monkfish main course, which was light and perfectly prepared with just the right citrus touch.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMneat experience!!!It was my first time and I really enjoyed the whole experience. The food arrangement was really neat and different from what I was used to in that being everything was put in its own small bowl that was puzzled in a box. It was really cute! Our waiter/server was fantastic. He answered all of our questions and was very patient with our questions. Overall I enjoyed my lunch and I would recommend Cerulean to any and everyone.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWait staff was friendly andWait staff was friendly and knowledgable about the food preparation. The ambiance is creative and warm at the same time. The food choices are creative without weirdness. the availability of different size plates and different types of foods. Three of us sensory professionals had a super time tasting each others' choices and enjoying all that with the our great Malbec wine.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe described the presentationWe described the presentation as the MOMA of Food! The staff was wonderful, the food was terrific, just the right size and a large variety of options. We had a geat time, thank you!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe macaroon did not liveThe macaroon did not live up to the hype. Enjoyed the pickled shrimp, scallops cooked perfectly, and rhubarb composed dessert. The Tang Punch was really good- best part of meal.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing NightThere is nothing I would change about my visit to Cerulean. The drinks were different and tasty. We tried many of the small plates at my table and they were all amazing. We all also had different entrees and everything was cooked to perfection. 5 stars all around from my group. The service was perfect and in a timely fashion as well.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningFantastic concept and great service. The choice of the size of plates is great and by just selecting the small and middle size I could enjoy the great dessert. Can't remember the name, but had coffee ice cream, hazelnut cake, white chocolate and believe it or not crushed rice krispies! To die for!
Great addition to the growing downtown restaurant scene. Easy to get to from Greenwood. Will go again particularly for special occasions. Take your checkbook! Not cheap!
Close to everything and allowed us to get to U of I concert without any traffic problems!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our wedding anniversaryIt was our wedding anniversary when visiting Cerulean and the wait staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. I truly appreciate you taking care of my best friend on her birthday with the free dessert. Well done!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA new Gem in town! Our first visit was for lunch. The waiter was able to suggest some choices for the three sides that come with the entrees. Each of us liked our choices and even though the portions appeared small (illusion?), we each had plenty. I thought the star of my meal was the duck breast that had a nice salted crust to the fat. What made the entree outstanding was the pear flavored dressing over the bed of greens that when paired with the duck was exceptionally good! Check out the Alexander Hotel next door for more fun after dining.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFar exceeded my expectationsI was not expecting the depth of flavor and exciting combinations I found at Cerulean. I was in Indianapolis for business and I found it on Yelp. I travel a lot for work and I am lucky enough to try some very interesting restaurants all over the US, but I was truly blown away. I hope my travels take me to Indy again soon!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly thing missing was localOnly thing missing was local brews, which our server (Jeremy think that is name, who was very good) said they would be having very soon.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is locally sourcedThe food here is locally sourced and seasonal. The corn macaron is the stuff of dreams. Our server was extremely in-the-know about the whole menu. Very enthusiastic. Also, the pork porterhouse could make your forget all about beef. Can't wait to go back.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMJenniferWe had a group of 4 and everyone tried different appetizers and entrees (the menu offers locally sourced, regularly changing offerings of small, medium, and large plates - approximately 8 selections of each). They were all outstanding! The gnocchi was especially good, as were the monkfish, pork, and vegetable pie. Cocktails were creative and tasty (we each had a different one), the wine list had several good choices at every price point (we shared a couple), and the deserts were delicious (and, on the whole, very light). We had a truly amazing waiter who was patient (our party arrived at different times) and extremely knowledgeable. He explained each dish perfectly and gave spot-on recommendations. Well done, Cerulean!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique items on the menu separateUnique items on the menu separate this from most higher end restaurants in Indy. Food was very good. I had the spare rib and it was excellent.
Great view of downtown especially in the evening.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful new choice in IndyA wonderful new restaurant choice- the food was presented in an enjoyable and intriquing manner, and was absolutely delicious. The prices for lunch were more than reasonable. The atmosphere in the restaurant was elegant yet relaxed. My boyfriend and I both found ourselves hungry and eating again later that evening. The bar area looked intriguing, and we'll definitely be visiting again.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMNot Winona LakeI was disappointed. Having had one of the best dining experiences of my life at Cerulean Winona Lake, I expected something similar. The server lacked the charm and playful banter we experienced at Winona Lake. Still, the menu was terrific and the craft cocktails and bartenders made things fun.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went there to celebrateWe went there to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Service was great, and the food was very creative and had lots of complex flavors. The pork steak was slightly undercooked near the bone, but it tasted great.
Beautiful restaurant interior. The noise in the restaurant was a minor detractor and made it difficult to carry a conversation. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and we'd go again.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, wine and service wereFood, wine and service were all very, very good. The wine list is interesting and fairly priced. One of best in Indianapolis (along with Oakleys).3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing to the Cerulean is anGoing to the Cerulean is an experience any foodie should have in Indianapolis, and it would be a great place for any out-of-town person to visit. The wait staff and the hostess were friendly, congenial people, but the food was the Oh Wow factor. It was presented well, unusual combinations that blended into a great taste on the fork. I did find the names of the dishes hard to understand, so my waitress had so explain several items, and while I thought the roasted vegetable plate delicious, it seemed over priced. The appetizers are small, small, but I was prepared for that.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful anniversary dinnerWe went to Cerulean for our 29th wedding anniversary. We were greeted with a very generous flute of Champagne and seated in a romantic corner both.Unlike a lot of restaurants that ask if you are celebrating a special occasion when you make a reservation, Cerulean acts on it. Our waiter Jake was attentive but not intrusive. The food was fabulous, as it was the first time we tried Cerulean shortly after it opened.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLove their commitment to aLove their commitment to a quality innovative tasty meal3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
