A word from Cercle Rouge
A passion for cars and motorcycles from owner Georges Forgeois’s racing career provides a subtle accent to the elegant bistro décor at Cercle Rouge in Tribeca. The lively bonhomie of the bar area warmly envelops guests as they enjoy an aperitif at the bar or dine leisurely at the café tables, while the chimes of clinking glasses and the Art Deco sconces in the dining room invoke the transporting ambiance of a bustling bouchon in Lyon. In the summer, enjoy an afternoon cocktail on the charming outdoor terrace while experiencing the spectacular urban sunsets and la joie de vivre.

Executive Chef Pascal Condomine oversees an accomplished menu of bistro staples, such as French onion soup gratinée, steak frites and escargots. Alongside these classics, Chef Condomine has composed a proud menu of terroir cuisine featuring such house specialties as house-made pâté, foie gras pasta, duck magret, wild boar and an unforgettable côte-de-boeuf for two.

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant has become our regular Sunday night back into the city spot. The staff makes it a pleasure to visit and the food is consistently excellent. We recently visited on Bastille Day which was obviously much busier. The experience was awesome. Both the staff out front as well as the kitchen handled the crowd flawlessly. Thank You."

  • "Very nice little restaurant, good Service and Very good food."

  • "The food was fair, and the service was HORRIBLE. We were ignored, and they didn't bring all the side dishes at the same time as the entrees. We asked several times for the side dishes, to no avail. I will never go there again."

  • "We were craving the steak tartare so we dined at cercle rouge. I love the Parisian feel. Our waitstaff were French and very friendly without being obtrusive. The wine list offered good choices in moderate price ranges($40-120). And the tartare was excellent. "

  • "Our group made the mistake of coming here for brunch on Easter. It was fairly empty, yet our server was scarce. The food was fair at best. Little kids seemed to have been given free reign by their parents and the restaurant staff. It seems the word has gotten out: Good place for kids, not so great for adults. If you are an adult looking for good service and food without feeling you are at daycare---AVOID."

  • "I had frisee aux lardon, which was good. The apple tartine was fantastic. Nice ambiance - quiet enough to have a good conversation. I would definitely go back there."

  • "Made a dinner reservation for the NYC restaurant week event. Don't think they were paying much of attention to the promotion. The food was mediocre at best and the braised lamb dish I had was way too salty and no much other taste. The other dish we had was the cod and it was bland. Portion was small. The seating was terrible and they chose to cram patrons in some sections of the dining area and leave several other tables empty (claimed there were reservations made but no one ever showed up. Not too smart). Definitely my first visit and now the last one for sure."

  • "Every neighborhood should have such a French bistro - small, engaging, unpretentious - with simple, familiar, comforting food. Cercle Rouge hit all those notes which made for a delightful lunch."

  • "1st time there, went for the evening live jazz music. Food, ambience and service all better than expected for a very busy Valentines Day. Manager was on the floor at all times keeping things going smoothly. Very impressed. Definitely has the feel and flavor of a French brasserie."

  • "Good French bistro/brasserie-type food. A lot of choices at different price points. Roomier than some comparable restaurants. Another pleasant surprise: wine list was quite accessible pricewise -- I saw one bottle for $28 and a few between $30 and $40. We'll be back."

  • "It is not exactly local for me, but the best quality vs price vs everything French food to feel like I'm back at home. They change the menu according to seasons, have a really cool terrace and have a selection of their best wines at 50% off on Sunday evenings for their wine lovers (read: myself). Their coq-au-vin was particularly exceptional BTW. I would call it a typical French brasserie NYC-enhanced to fit the neighbourhood (Tribeca) and for the expat or French culture 'lovers', they celebrate all the regular French events (14th of July, Beaujolais nouveau, etc.). Voila. :)"

  • "15 minutes to order drink, another 15 before we receive them, another 10 minutes before we get good bottle of wine which we had to remind waiter about. Food was ok and certainly typical fair for a brassery but way to americanized in terms of taste and portions (too big) overall disappointed. also restaurant was empty when we showed up and they did not place us in best seats or table in the house or anywhere near. those seats were given to people who asked or moved there. poor management of this. only speedy service came when bill came..."

  • "Pre-booked an early Thanksgiving dinner, which turned out to be needless when we should up. Better safe than sorry. 49.95 prix fixe with 4 app selections, 4 entree selections and 4 dessert selections. All were appropriate to Thanksgiving, including a delicious mostly traditional turkey dinner. Everything was well done, and we left very happy. The space is beautiful, and the service was good (if a little more leisurely than what we expected). We'll definitely be back, and recommend it to anyone looking to be simultaneously fed and charmed."

  • "Decor and ambiance were pleasant. Service was attentive and patient. Food was excellent. I had the sweetbread salad and the rack of wild boar. Both were tasty and cooked perfectly. The boar especially had a rich, gamey flavor. Others had skate, also perfectly cooked and flavorful, and vegetable ravioli, which I did not taste. We arrived at 6:15 on a Thursday, and the restaurant was largely empty and quiet. By the time we left at 8:30 it was full and the bar was buzzing. I had no idea there was such a vibrant bar scene. Definitely worth going."

  • "Above, is the great Chef Paul Bocuse's advice to aspiring cuisineieres. These words came to mind as my wife and I enjoyed yet another excellent dinner prepared by Chef Pascal at Cercle Rouge. No tricks, no gimmicks, no showing off, just focused, delicious preparations, creative in a way that enhances, rather than calls attention to itself. We drive almost an hour to dine at Cercle Rouge; de rein!"

  • "Good service, quail was surprisingly juicy and taste good but the rest of other dishes were just average. Place was much more quiet and comfortable when the music band stopped playing. I agreed this place could classify as a romantic restaurant from the decoration."

  • "If only Cercle Rouge was in my neioghborhood, I'd close my kitchen and throw away the key. Classic French bistro menu, perfectly executed, with a charming and informative staff. I think up excuses to be nearby at dinnertime. One caution. 1 night a week there is live music. If you want to talk, go on a different evening."

  • "I think Pascal, the chef, is amazing and so eager to please. Te place is very convivial, the service is god and the food is great, while the menu is changing but always perfect. This is my hang out place and I LOVE it."

  • "I met here with a client and the lunch was great. The server was not lying when she said the Frissee salad was a good size. That alone would have been enough... the Flank Steak was very good. Service was prompt without being over-bearing. Nice to be able to sit outside during good weather. Decor is nice."

  • "The menu has interesting French dishes. The trout was very good, and you can find god French wines. Outdoor seating is a little cramped, but surprisingly quiet being on W. Broadway. Overall recommended for a date."

  • "It's JoJo's, of course the food was exceptional. Quaint little gem on the UES in the 60's. Came back during Restaurant Week, my only two exceptions; the RW menu is rather limited, and I wish the wait staff spoke french. With that said, JoJo's is a wonderful restaurant. I have been there many times and I will return again."

  • "Our first time here, a nice-looking restaurant with good rep. It was Restaurant Week and this is may be the most chintzy (portions) lunch offering we've experienced. The appetizer, leeks in vinaigrette, was decently prepared and generous enuf, but I prefer them less well-cooked; these were not just soft but a little mushy. Sharper knives would have been good to facilitate slicing through the leeks without destroying them. Monk fish was tasty but a tad dried out and too salty for my taste; a good deal of the portion was bone. The peach dessert: forgettable if not disastrous, presented in very small cup. Parsimonious and undistinguished. Service was generally confused, attentive only at the outset, appearing as if they wanted to sell drinks."

  • "Four of us dropped into this spot for a quick dinner before a friend's birthday party nearby. The food was awesome, perfect mussels and steak, reminded me so keenly of France. The staff was awesome; not only did they recommend where we could find a last minute bottle of wine for our friend, they also loaned me an umbrella since it had just started to rain. Really friendly bar tender as well. Will absolutely be back for another taste of Paris."

  • "I made a reservation for lunch and was quickly seated. Our waitress was friendly and professional. The salmon burger was fabulous though it took a while for it to come. No rushing perfection. The location was quiet, allowing for easy conversation unlike most Tribeca restaurants. I will return to check out the rest of the menu."

  • "I ordered the house pâté and the plate of the day, which was cote de veau. The pâté was very good and the veal (cooked as the chef suggests) was excellent. My friend ordered the French onion soup and the braised rabbit. These were also of a very high standard. The service was knowledgeable and attentive. The wine list is mostly French, as one might expect, and there are many good choices available. Highly recommended."

  • "I brought 3 colleagues to Cercle Rouge for dinner. They have a nice French menu and had a very good suckling pig special. The service was a little slow, but otherwise good. Larger groups came in half way through our meal, which may have impacted the service. I should note, I've been ther once before and received sterling service. There was live music, which was nice. The salad crouton were house made. The overall decor, is classic French bistro.....nothing fancy, but comfortable. The noise level is high....this was not because of the music, just lots of people at the bar, etc. So, OK for casual conversation, but would be difficult for serious business discussions. Overall. I recommend the sot, great food, friendly service."

  • "Their weekend clown was a draw for me during my first visit at Cercle Rouge but the food had us coming back for more. As a single mom finding a place that is both kid friendly and serve awesome food is a rarity. They welcome children and are patient with them running around and enjoying Mr. Diggity the clown as the adults sit and enjoy the great food. The Croque Monsieur and the Oeufs en Meurette are our go to favorites. Their prix fixe menu is both affordable and offers a wide selection. We will definietly return!"

  • "Formidable!!! My wife and I haven't had a red wine sauce worthy of the name, in New York, in decades, until last Saturday at Cercle Rouge; we asked for spoons. The dish, consisting of braised pork shank, celeriac, and a small, garliky salad, made for a wonderful combination of textures and flavors. Cercle Rouge, with its talented, imaginative, French chef is the perfect antidote to the tasteless, boring offerings that pass for French cuisine on the NY restaurant scene these days."
