Landmarked building, best prime rib, creative cuisine lacing a traditional American menu, never boring, always prepared perfectly. The very best service, in a Colonial dining room with a roaring fire in winter. Often vibrant bar scene away from restaurant, nice top shelf liquors. Wine list tight, just needs some TLC.

My husband and I were staying at the hotel to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We decided to eat there as well as we have been there for a wedding before and really enjoyed the food. While the food was excellent, the restaurant was way too loud! I commented to the waitress about the noise as it was very hard to have a conversation with my husband. I was glad to be done with my dinner so I could walk outside to hear myself think. The ambience was nice but the loudness of the room was a negative drawback that we were not expecting.

Food was very good; service was slow; too noisey to even have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. If you have a private room or are attending a banquet, you will have a much better experience than dining in the main dining room. Describing the noise level as "energetic" should not be interpreted as a compliment. There was no negative choice.

Been here before and had a great time. This time the bar was nice but our server must've been new. Appetizers were great but Tuna was overcooked. (We heard another waiter tell his table to order the tuna almost rare, a tip that our waiter never told us about) My wife ordered it med-rare and it was overdone. My strip steak was ok, but I guess that I'll stay with filets or prime rib from now on. Was a bit noisy as we had a table that was near an inside entrance and a steady stream of people walking by didn't much help the ambiance.

The Liv Social deal was $47 which incl 2 drinks, app, 2 entrees & dessert. Reservations were for 6:30 pm but we were not seated til 7pm. I received a confirm. from Open Table the day after our dinner so maybe the reason we werent seated right away. We went to the bar & they were "out of" the pear martini. The bartender made a nice espresso martini & gave us waters & pretzels. He made sure the drink could be transferred to our table bill which is not normally allowed. The Rosemont Diamond shiraz $9 was watery/bland. Calamari was delicious, both our entrees (shrimp & filet) & dessert (rasp cheesecake) very good. Other tables had really nice looking bread but we forgot to ask where ours was. Good deal.Wooden chairs- uncomfortable for long meals.

Food was mostly very good and service was mostly respectable. We took my parents for a Friday evening meal and had a very hard time talking. Shortly after we arrived, a piano started playing, but for some reason, in the relatively small dining room/bar, they chose to amplify the music to well beyond normal conversation level. We asked to be moved and placed my father behind the chimney to help block the noise, but that did not help much. We asked multiple times for the amplifier to be turned down, though they said they did, the piano music did not ever get to the point where we could talk without raising our voices. Had the clams as an appetizer and they had the consistency of bubblegum. The main course was excellent.

  • Long wait
    billsthoughts
    Dined on 9/16/2014
A very long wait for dinner made a great dining experience merely pleasant. We were told a large party in the banquet room was the reason our 6 dinners were delayed. As a result we would only consider this restaurant when we want to linger over drinks while waiting for dinner. Since we were with my parents, who don't drink, the wait seemed even longer than the 55 minutes between ordering and receiving our food. Such a shame given the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the wait staff.

We have been here a number of times with family, with a group and recently just the two of us. Overall the food is very good; the latest meal was moving toward outstanding. This meal we had wings with traditional buffalo sauce (hot sauce and butter) and they were quite good, not too hot, not bland. He had prime rib and the "small" 14 oz. was plenty as it had very little fat. She had fillet and it was done exactly as ordered. The vegetable, asparagus, was done exactly right, just barely crisp. The glass of wine was very generous, the martini made as requested. The mousse was excellent, the whoopie pie not as good-the cake was dry. Service was excellent. Only complaint was the high noise level with an almost full dining room-uncomfortable.

Food was prepared and presented very well. Our server Taylor was friendly, attentive, and helpful. Prices are up there, but we felt that we got what we paid for. Only complaint would be Shrimp Cocktail ($11.95) only had 3 Jumbo Shrimp. We have been to similar places that give you five for that price. Desserts were very good as well. Could not make a habit of dining here on a regular basis, but would certainly dine here again when in area and looking for a good experience.

My family and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The Colonial decor was very inviting, and everything was clean. The staff was friendly and attentive, even trying to help us get a nice photo to remember the occasion. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, as the presentation and taste were quite appetizing. I had the gorgonzola-encrusted filet mignon, with garlic mash and asparagus. Cooked to perfection, and thoroughly enjoyable! I'm not big on wine, so I can't help you there, but they did have a few nice craft beers available, including a local brew from the Adirondack Brewery. The desserts were fabulous as well. I had the special of espresso cheesecake, which was absolutely fabulous! This restaurant is a must try!

It was a nice find for me as I m not in this area very often but next time I am here, I will be back.

Alex our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I had the prime rib not something I usually get here ... but thought why not - it was a very tender piece of meat and tasteful. When order first brought it was a little too rare - but not a problem they took care of it right away, and manager even comp our dessert (which he didn't need to but it was appreciated - and very good). Girlfriend enjoyed her meal too. Always like to stop here when in the area.

This place would be good for your 80 year old grandmother. I ordered the cod, which was cooked properly, but totally devoid of seasoning. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon, medium well done - pink in the center. Her Filet was totally ruined - no sign of pink meet, totally dry from over cooking. Her mashed potatoes were bland.

About 1 year ago the Century House revamped their menu, and not for the better. I am glad to see they have since brought back many of their original entrees and eliminated the boring pick your protein/veg/starch format of the "new and improved" menu. Great experience all around, much better than my last visit a few months back.
