CentralCentral Saved My MarraigeI was down to the last 3 hours of my marriage. I fought so hard to undo a wrong and with a reservation from central my wife knew I meant business. She's so amazing and what better way to show her than to take her to an amazing place. Central was the start to something new. The Hostess and Service members were professional and calm. I was relaxed and was able to speak my mind in a tone to my wife that finally made sense. Central may only be a restaurant to some, but to me Central is a place that is completely capable of making an important moment in your life. If you recommend Central please do so to someone that NEEDS a moment. We picked Central for it food reviews and ambiance. We were pleased we made the choice. The sample appetizer board was both unusual and delicious. The grilled salmon was prepared just the way we requested. I had the wood-fire grilled snapper with roasted fingerling potatoes that was served over a warm sauteed corn, butter and herb dish. Fantastic! I ate every bite - wanted to lick the plate! My husband had the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggies (broccolini). We enjoyed fresh artisan bread with herbed butter while we waited on our food to be prepared. The ambiance in the restaurant was warm, energetic, fresh. Not stuffy at all. The service was impeccable. The architecture stunning. We were staying in downtown Montgomery and enjoyed a beautiful walk through the alley to get there. After we ate, we walked about a block to the scenic riverfront. He was delighted with his steakhouse wedge and entree of steak frites. It was the best he has had since our trip to Paris. I had the tomato bisque and pasta primavera. I can't say enough good things about that soup, it was heaven in a bowl. In fact, I loved it so much that I took home a bowl of it for later. We shared the pecan pie for dessert, yum! I was so full from my delicious meal I could only take a few bites, much to my husband's delight. We are international foodies and Central Cafe certainly exceeded any expectations we had for dining in Montgomery. The Oysters Rockefeller were wonderful and the Smoked Pork Chop (with Gouda Grits) was tender and tasty. The Steak and Frites were authentic and the fresh herb chimichurri paired with it nicely. As to atmosphere, we liked the juxtaposition of old exposed brick and modern lighting. One negative: the chairs at the tables were not very comfortable. She made sure we had everything we needed but she didn't crowd us. Central has been added to our "date night" line up. We will most definitely dine here again. They had run out of snapper and substituted swordfish and it was great meal. The flavors were spot on. Matthew our server appeared to be fairly new, but he was certainly giving it his all. The hostess graciously accommodated my request to move to a side booth since I forgot to request that when I made the reservation. It was her first time. Our server, Tim, was very attentive without crowding us. My wife ordered her filet medium-rare, then after several bites, decided she actually preferred it cooked medium. The kitchen not only cooked it more for her, but returned the plate with a fresh order of potatoes, green beans, and mushrooms. As other staff walked by, they would top off our glasses if needed. As always, the service, the staff, the ambiance, and especially the food, were excellent and made for a very enjoyable dining experience! The dinner dishes showed originality, local food sources, and sensible portions. We returned on Thursday to try two more dinner dishes, which were also superb. Montgomery does not have a lot of upscale, sit down restaurants. We stumbled upon this restaurant and were SO pleased with our experience. The ambiance is great, the service was outstanding and the food was superb. The prices were pretty reasonable - we had an appetizer, bottle of wine, two entrees and dessert, and (after tip), the bill was about $150. Central has a very interesting menu, and I will definitely be back. It's a good choice for entertaining out of town business guests, and that was the purpose of this meal. Food was well prepared, hot and enjoyed by the table. Only downside was service staff seemed constantly distracted, and perhaps stretched too thin. Your restaurant was the only one for which she had positive comments. And our waiter was great; I believe his name was James.

Well dressed crowd, beautiful décor and design, very busy open kitchen, in a very lively area of town. The most memorable food item was the homemade pimento cheese served with flatbread made in house. Salad was excellent, but a small portion of the same salad came with the entrée and the waited failed to steer us to a different appetizer to avoid duplication. The waiters highly rated salmon came out so fast our salads were far from complete. The presentation was good, but it was overcooked and void of flavor. The evening menu has changed and the lunch menu tastes better than before. You cannot go wrong with any of the sandwiches at lunch and at dinner.. ANYTHING will knock your socks off. The kitchen looks great and seems happy and engaged. Sadly they still have lackluster service. I know who the manager is and although I'm there frequently I have never been greeted by him or had him come help when there is a problem. Located in an old building with great decor and vibe - waiters in jeans & plaid shirts, exposed brick and fabulous windows. We loved the menu and our waiter helped us pick excellent wines & dishes. The only disappointment was my son's mac & cheese side dish - not much flavor. We dined early so the noise level was very pleasant ... not sure what it would be like later in the evening. It was cooked well but was nothing interesting so thought it was WAY overpriced. My friend ordered a fish taco that was so full of small bones she had to send it back. The server was gracious but I thought management was remiss in not coming over to apologize to her.
