We had attended the graduation commencement at CU. all day and it was a joyous and exciting occasion for me to complete my studies and graduate with a degree in doctor of education. My husband reserved a table for two at your restaurant to celebrate this special occasion. The Boathouse is a perfect way to dine for events as this and also a place to go for a romantic dinner. I had the special marinated shrimp & cream grits (although I'm not that fond of grits, it was good) . Another guest had Roasted Amish Chicken. She thought it was good but could have had more flavor and sauce. Some of the options weren't appealing like sauteed monkfish, roasted trumpet...filet of Branzino (apparently that's a fish).
Another guest had Jumbo Lump Crab Cake which was very good. This visit we took family from overseas, and we were all suitably impressed with the ambience, location and high quality seafood dishes. Towards the bar area of an early everning there is usually a very energetic crowd that are waiting for their Wedding reception or function to start (or perhaps it had just finished), however this noise level reduces somewhat later in the evening. There are a lot of tables here on the "bar side" of the restaurant with casually dressed tourists mixed in with people that genuinely made an effort (why cant people dress for an occasion these days ???). Seating by the window is definitely better although we've been seated away and the food and service makes up for missing the view of the water. The food is always remarkable -- we've enjoyed the steak in the past but this time I had a phenomenal swordfish steak and my husband's lamb was so good that I even liked the bite he gave me! We reserved a table before we left the UK - which I would recommend as the restaurant was busy. The staff were very attentive and could not be faulted in any way. The food, crab cake starter and monkfish main for my partner and scallopes starter with swordfish main for myself were beautiful and left both of us wanting more! The ambiance of the place was very special although we were not lucky enough for a waterfront table - this had no effect at all on the evening, so much so my partner proposed! The celebrated ambience reminds me of a country club. It is open and bright, open to the glorious view. Although the window seats are prized, there really is not a bad table in the place, including the bar. The food is astonishingly good. A place of this visual and ambient appeal would not really have to have superior food. They could get away with much less and still pull in the tourists. But they do not rest on any laurels. The menu is beautifully conceived and executed.
