A word from Central Park BoatHouse
With their 1858 landscaping plan under construction, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux began adding architectural features to their Park design. Around 1874, Vaux designed a two-story boathouse at the eastern end of the Lake. Here visitors could purchase refreshments, take boat rides, and watch other boats. After this wooden Victorian structure with sloping mansard roof burned down, the current Loeb Boathouse took its place in the 1950s. Today at the New York Boathouse visitors can enjoy a meal in any season, with overhead heating helping to extend as long as possible the pleasure of dining on the deck overlooking the Lake. Come visit a New York legend!Continued

  • "It is always a treat to dine at The BoatHouse in Central Park. The staff is warm and welcoming, the food outstanding, and its location in the park with a view of the lake is just beautiful. My husband and I spend at least three weekends a year in NYC and we always make reservations to eat at the BoatHouse."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 54th wedding anniversary at Central Park Boathouse. We were led to a lake view table. The day was sunny and the waiters couldn't be more attentive. One waiter suggested the halibut which was Devine, perfectly cooked and served over a bed of fresh vegetable slaw. We live on the other side of Central Park and walked through the park to the boathouse. Great views, great food, we made a great choice to celebrate there. Wonderful day."

  • "Fresh air, good food, beautiful view. I had lunch with 2 friends and was really nice. We are from Brasil and they were very nice with us!"

  • "Our reservation was for 2 p.m. And we only got seated at 2:50 p.m. Since we had a reservation, almost an hour waiting for a table is way too long, and made everyone cranky. The food however was delicious, as well as the ambience."

  • "We had lunch on a beautiful day in mid August. You can't beat the atmosphere and the view! The food was very good - we enjoyed the crab cakes the most. Our lunch entrees were also delicious. The services is good. My only disappointment is that the bread is not served warm. The prices run high but the view is worth it. I recommend the BoatHouse when visiting NYC especially when the weather is comfortable! Make reservations in advance."

  • "we had a reservation and came early for lunch, the waiter found us a very nice table near the water. It was a wonderful moment out of Manhattan noise. I recommend"

  • "Celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary, requested a table at waterside. When we got there at 7:50pm, we were told our table would be ready in 4 minutes, but not waterside table, even though there were some available. Told party has to be more than 2. Manager said our table was ready-bottle of prosecco would be at our table, or we could wait 30 minutes for table at the water. Great bread, my wife had a salad appetizer she raved over. My chicken dish was good, wife's linguini great. Chocolate tart was good. She found a hair in her salad, and we pointed it out to the server (Frankie, who was very good). Gratuity included - bill was about $120. The manager removed my wife's salad and my dessert from bill due to our troubles."

  • "Fantastic location with excellent service and food. The only negative was that we only got a table one hour after our time of reservation. We had a great table on the waterfront that helped forgetting the waiting time. This needs to be improved so that we can recommend going to the restaurant in the future."

  • "Beautiful view. The waiters were very nice. The food was not so good as I expected. I asked for Aioli fish and chips. The fish had no taste. The sauce was too spicy and the chips were very salty. But at the end it was a very nice experience."

  • "Had a beautiful dinner here with the hubby and our 2 boys (11 & 9). Ambiance, food and setting couldn't be better. Service was a bit disappointing and we ended up skipping dessert after waiting 15min for the waiter to return to take our order for it. They automatically add the tip to your bill (even for a small table of 4...surprising), so maybe that removes their incentive to serve? We'd go back though - maybe without the kids next time ;)"

  • "Food was good. Service was very slow and it took very long time to get our order. But the scenario is great with nice view that compensate the long waiting ."

  • "I guess the fact that tip is included in the bill is less motivation for the waitstaff! Although the waitress was very friendly, she took forever to bring out each course. At least 35 minutes before we received our appetizers, another 30 minutes for main, we ended up closing the place down. We sat at 6:30pm and didn't leave until after 10pm. Beautiful place, good food, but they need to have much better service."

  • "Where to begin? This place is only good for having a drink, enjoying the view and that's it! The food is atrocious. To call it pedestrian would be an insult to pedestrian food. Beginning from bringing my husbands whiskey in a glass made for punch to the salmon being so low quality that it tasted like old fish, the overpriced veal chop which was chewy to the Swordfish being over cooked and dry. Being a culinary professional I am baffled by how such a restaurant with it's location can be okay with being so sub par. You're the Boathouse restaurant in Central Park in New York and u serve worst food than a mom and pop place in any given neighborhood in this amazing city. What a waste of space in such a pivotal location as Central Park!"

  • "Having booked 2 weeks ahead I was surprised to be told in a rather terse manner by the young lady at the booking desk that we would have to get in a queue at 5.30 to get a table. When I pointed out my name at the top of her booking screen this made no impression on her. When we did queue we then had to wait whilst they set up a table for 5 people. The food was excellent if a little on the exlensive side. The serviceable at our table was also really good friendly and efficient. We had a good table but my wife spent the entire meal blinded by the sun despot the fact that the canopy could have been lowered more."

  • "My wife and I had a great time here. I won't say the food was amazing (because it wasn't) but the view and ambiance is priceless"

  • "The boat place is beautiful and it has a great view. The food is very good also. Still, the restaurant is noise and the receptionist is stupid with clients (and she was really rude to me)."

  • "Lovely experience. Reservation said 4 we were 5... No problem..they made up extra size table on the water. (And place was busy)Very nice experience. Food good..server very nice and helpful"

  • "Our second trip to New York, we didn't make it to Central Park the first time, so wanted to do something special as we were there for our wedding anniversary. Got the recommendation from a friend, and glad we went. The food was great, very impressive. I was unfortunately a little disappointed by the service, not bad, just felt a little rushed even though it wasn't that busy. Had a reasonably private table which was nice, because some of the other tables looked quite squashed."

  • "My daughter and I had reservations for 12pm on Monday for lunch. They literally don't open the doors til 12 and a line forms but if you have reservations no worries at all. We requested a table outside by the water and enjoyed wonderful food and scenic views of turtles, rowboats and water. The crab cake appetizer with a salad is a meal - and I highly recommend the crab cake. We both ordered apps and entrees and we couldn't finish our meals. My suggestion is to order 2 apps and share a meal. The shuttle from 72nd and 5th save you a lot of walking so I recommend you sit on a bench and wait for it and the driver was very friendly!"

  • "Our second visit to the boathouse and it was just as lovely. Our starter was amazing, the blackened sea bass. Our mains were also very tasty. Only niggle was I asked for a M/R steal and it came M/W. It was a good piece of steak though so tasted ok. Service was quick and sav blanc was lovely. We have been in winter and now summer and the open terrace is a really nice perk."

  • "The Boat House was the choice for get together with my best friend and I to meet a high school friend who lives in New York. We had a table with a great view. It was a beautiful day our waiter was friendly funny and attentive. I had the duck salad, so yummy it was $30 but overall with the ambience and service I didnt mind. It was a treat and something i would like to do again ."

  • "We go here often, but only in the summer. You can't beat the view and we just love Central Park! Try to take out a row boat - it's a fun delicious day😄"

  • "Now that Tavern on the Green is closed this is the Tourist alternative. The staff was very nice but a little worn from serving tourists all day. We were sitting right on the pond but all of the children from their tables were standing up in front of our view in order to feed the Turtles. Very annoying, considering we are locals looking for a romantic night out. Also, the food came out almost as fast as we could order. Clearly a Touristy spot for those who want to experience Central Parks beauty without having to walk around it."
