A word from Central Park BoatHouse
With their 1858 landscaping plan under construction, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux began adding architectural features to their Park design. Around 1874, Vaux designed a two-story boathouse at the eastern end of the Lake. Here visitors could purchase refreshments, take boat rides, and watch other boats. After this wooden Victorian structure with sloping mansard roof burned down, the current Loeb Boathouse took its place in the 1950s. Today at the New York Boathouse visitors can enjoy a meal in any season, with overhead heating helping to extend as long as possible the pleasure of dining on the deck overlooking the Lake. Come visit a New York legend!

The staff at the Boathouse were excellent, seeing that our every need was met. The scenery, food, and overall ambience was superb! You cannot visit Central Park without stopping at the boathouse for brunch, lunch, or a beautiful dinner. We made our reservation in advance and we were seated by the window as requested. We could not have been happier with our choice!

The scenery is amazing! I guess they rely on that because there was no indication of effort to make the food tasty. The beet salad is simply bad and the chicken was dry and bland. They would be better served to just let a fast food place handle the food since they obviously aren't focusing on that service.

I discovered the Loeb Central Park Boathouse on walking tour of Central Park over a year ago. The experience I had was exquisite and magical, and although that was my first time at the Boathouse, I knew that this was a place that would become an unparalleled favorite. Last weekend I finished the New York City Marathon, and to celebrate, my family and I had lunch at the Boathouse on the following Monday. There is no other place in the world that would have been as perfect to celebrate the occasion as the Loeb Central Park Boathouse. The food, the view, and the service are impeccable.

My sister and I were looking forward to lunch prior to returning to the UK. We were sat next to a table of six young children all under the age of 8. No adults on the table, they were diagonally opposite. The children were noisy, disruptive, getting under the table and under the feet of the staff. The parents did nothing. The staff did nothing. We have children and I think children should be taken to restaurants but they should not be allowed to spoil it for everyone else .The food was not memorable. We chose steak as the USA is renowned for it - well not on this occasion. The waitress was lovely but really that is the only positive I can say about this place, other than the view was lovely. We will not be returning.

Location was fantastic, food was very good. The prices were on the high side but not unreasonable. Service seemed a bit disinterested and it is probably because the tip (22%)is included in the bill. The tasting of fresh different types of bread is a great idea but it was only brought to our table once so we found that a bit odd. Would I go again? Not sure

I booked our table 4 days before travelling at 6.00 on the day we arrived "October 26th" as we couldn't get a lunch time booking, which was our first choice, so close to our arrival {so remember to book early} We walked to central park from our hotel "The Millenium Broadway' and then travelled via Horse Carriage to the Boathouse. We arrived at 6.00 but that wasn't a problem as we were offer a table, luckily with a view over the water, that was until it got too dark... We were greated by the head waiter who recommended cocktails and specials not on the menu. Next our experience began starting firstly with a jug of iced cold refreshing water and the bread, ooh bread to die for especially the cranberry bread... . My friend and I ordered the Large Crab Cakes for starters and whow we certainly wasn't disappointed, luckily is wasn't too large and so delicious with the taste of fresh crab every mouthful. My daughter had the anti paste which she also enjoyed. For our main choice my friend and I chose the Prawn and clam pesto pasta that was also delicious. My Daughter Taylor chose the fillet steak and luckily she allowed me to taste some and it was the best fillet I have ever eaten tender, juicy and melted in my mouth and I will be ordering fillet steak on my next visit . Through out the meal our water glasses were topped up and replacement bread was offered. The choice of desserts was of good variety but unfortunately we were all too full and chose to have coffee which was also the best tasting coffee we had in New York. Our experience was special and began our trip for my daughters 21st birthday the best ever, Thank you to all the staff for making a our experience so memorable and for making my daughter feel so special on her 21st celebrations. Also thank you to the chefs for cooking making the food so delicious I have and will continue recommended the Boathouse to my friends.

We booked The Boathouse via internet in advance of our stay in NY. The reviews and advertising seemed good for our 'special evening'. The address given for the restaurant, however, is on the edge of Central Park and some distance from the restaurant itself. Taxis may not enter Central Park in the evening yet none of this was mentioned in the advertising nor the confirmation of the reservation. A call to the restaurant revealed that we should await a shuttle that would be with us in 5-10 minutes. We waited 40 minutes. Though the meal and table service were good, this bad experience was repeated at the end of the evening as the shuttle was not there. Neither the receptionist nor the manager could predict its arrival. Hence my service rating.

In addition to great service, fine ambiance, and a sunset view across the Central Park pond, The Boathouse offers choices of fine dining vegetarian appetizers, salads and entrees, a great bonus. Many New York places ignore vegetarians or have a take-it-or-leave-it single dish. Worse, of course, are those ignorant restaurants which say, "we have plenty of salads," as if vegetarians were rabbits. Our waiter Jonathan's service was perfect, friendly but not chummy, smiling but not condescending, and knowledgeable about the menu items and wines. Overall, I was impressed with the warmth of the staff as well as prices which were reasonable considering the location and quality.

In the evening, when it's dark, nothing can be seen inside out. That's a pity, because one of the main reasons to select this place is the lake view and bright lights are not present. You will have to walk about 7 minutes from 72nd Street at the East side of Central Park to get to the Boathouse, because taxi's are not allowed in the park. So you have to hope it will be dry and not windy. The food is good and the staff is doing their best and that's appreciated.

The food was fantastic. You can't beat the floor to ceiling view of The Lake. However, our service was well below par. It took almost 15 minutes for anyone to recognize us, another 15 to get our drinks, and our server did not have the best attitude. I understand that some days may be rougher than others, but that's not an excuse. I'm hoping that was just our experience because it was a delicious experience otherwise.

Brought my mother here on her first trip to NYC. The view of the water and fall trees in contrast to the simple, yet elegant interior design was beautiful. Food was pricey for lunch, but delicious. Our waiter was very knowledgable and friendly. It took a bit longer than we would have liked to get our food since there was only the two of us. Very pretty setting inside of Central Park. Reservations are a must as we found out 4 years ago when we tried to eat here, but we're turned away. Even with reservations we had to wait in a short line with other people who had reservations. You cannot sit next to the windows unless you have a party of 4+, so our table was in the middle, right next to another couple. The food was very good & expensive, of course. Don't know that I would come back, but wanted to experience it while visiting New York. Would maybe order from their carry out area next time & picnic in the park instead.
