used to have Jazz but I don't know if they still do. that used to make it a cool place to go in San Mateo. it was quiet this particular evening because we had an early reservation. Noticed the blue hair crowd as well as families (celebrating birthdays). menu is nice. there is outdoor seating which is very nice--but only a few tables.

we eat here fairly often but Friday was disappointing. Food prepared well but not very interesting -- service indifferent; asked for water 8-10 times during the meal.

I'm a pretty tough grader so I wanted to say that we found Central Park Bistro to be a good choice for Mothers Day. It wasn't a classic brunch but still the food was good for the prices charged. A couple of items were uneven but I think that was due to them being specials they don't normally do. I would recommend if in the area.

We were pleasantly surprised to find such a hip place off the internet in downtown San Mateo. The food was good with the fried calamari appetizer being exceptional. The service was attentive and we appreciated that even the friendly manager was serving and helping out. There appears to be a few great separate rooms for banquets or lunch meetings that hold up to 30(?) at least and then there's a separate room in the wine "cave" with a table for 10(?).

The chef goes through great pains to present entrees that dazzle all of your senses. I especially love the ribs, watermelon with goat cheese, and the gorgeous wine list. The venue is tastefully decorated with modern influences that lends to a comfy feel. I have visited this restaurant without using open table numerous times - they are great for walk ins without reservations. Very accomodating, delicious gourmet food, and dazzling cocktails!

We were a party of six (3 couples) and were delighted to have been seated in the wine room. It was private, quiet and really added to our enjoyment of the evening. The service was superb! From the bar tender to our server, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Each of our meals was excellent, beautifully presented and all of our entrees arrived piping hot. P.S. They are to be commended for having Rombauer Chardonnay "by the glass" on their wine list! Although we had a bottle of Rombauer, it's rare to be able to get an excellent vintner's wine "by the glass" at any restaurant bar. We were all in agreement that we'll return to Central Park Bistro because of this evening's experience! Cheers! Karen Smith

Be sure to visit on a non-holiday. They cannot seem to hold it together when there are too many people. Otherwise, food is enjoyable and flavorful, even if it is not very creative.
