  • "Generally the food was really good but he chicken mattone was too dry."

  • "This was our second visit and it was once again delicious. Short ribs are tasty with no need for a knife; bittersweet chocolate dessert is not to be missed. "

  • "This was our first time back to Central Market since the fire last year that forced them to close for awhile. The food and ambience remain as excellent as before. We shared a wonderful small bite of Monterey sardines with fennel and spinach aioli on crostini, my wife enjoyed nettle soup while I feasted on a delicious lettuce salad with big chunks of bacon and a blue cheese dressing. I had a Catalan-style seafood and pasta main dish and my wife raved about the crispy lamb ribs as her main course. The apple pie for dessert was a slight disappointment. We had requested a quiet table, if possible, and that wish was accomodated graciously. Our waitress was superb. It was a thoroughly pleasant and delicious experience."

  • "As always, Central Market provides outstanding food, wine and service all paired to make for an outstanding dining experience. Chef Tony always uses the freshest of locavore ingredients, including his own hand raised pigs and Green String Farms produce, amongst others. From first bite to last cookie crumb, a continuos delight. Service is great, location easy to get to, and when I have time, even great place to sketch the diners as the layout is so visually pleasing."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised with the food, ambiance and service. When the food was a little slow to the table, the waitress offered another glass of wine to the table. I had the seafood pasta, which more resembled risotto and was delicious. My other diners had Scallops and the chicken dish. Empty plates all the way around. When speaking to the chef seated a few table away toward the end of the night, I did not realize the attention he paid to his diners as he asked my how the pasta was... He noticed what I had ordered. Definitely will return."

  • "The roasted root veggie appetizer with hummus and honey was a wonderful start. The sea bass main course was spicy and flavorful and perfectly cooked. The scallops and Brussels sprouts were crusty on the outside and tender inside. We ordered a wine special that was amazing: Abraxas--very interesting."

  • "Not a place for my meat and potato loving husband , but a lovely change from the ordinary. Not Portland typical organic foodie-ville, leaving something to be desired with presentation, and quality a touch over-priced for what you get, but solid decent flavors from all we tried. And for the Petaluma, it was a lovely evening in a great location."

  • "Friends bought me a gift certificate for Central Market so I decided to take my daughter who lives in SF and appreciates fine dining. Service was fine although our server wasn't especially friendly. My daughter was surprised that there wasn't a vegetarian entrée offered so she basically had a salad and several side dishes. I ordered one of the specials offered that evening which was a glazed pork chop with a small salad and lima bean sauce. It was just ok, slightly dry nothing special. Overall I can honestly say I was slightly disappointed with the meal."

  • "We had great food. My wife had grilled pork chop and loved it. A couple at our table had Wagyu sirloin. My sons was very fatty, they replaced. Both said it was delicious and cooked perfectly. My scallops were yummy. The bread they serve is great. Only complaint is only two pizza offerings and they were a bit strange, they would not allow for a more simple pizza. Server had a large group and we were concerned, however she did an excellent job. I will definitely be back."

  • "I don't often drive up North of Marin unless I am going wine tasting but was so impressed by this restaurant, I will visit my Petaluma friends more often now. From their delicious home made bread to their fantastic desserts. We all enjoyed every bit of my meal. If there are seared scallops on any menu, it is usually my go to entree and OMG it was the best scallops I ever had. And I've had a lot!! So perfectly seared and the taste was the freshest tasting scallops ever. My friends had the short ribs and pork chops respectively and they both were cooked perfectly and deliciously. Both recommended desserts were also delicious! yum yum looking forward to my next visit!"

  • "Really amazing food. Very personable chef who came to our table and introduced himself. Everything here was amazing and the only drawbacks were that we were seated under an air vent which made our table drafty and slightly cold, although they did seem to increase the temp of the air a little bit after we mentioned that we were cold. The only other drawback was no cocktails (beer and wine only), but really the quality of the food totally makes up for it."

  • "My girlfriends and I dined at Central Market our first night in wine country. It's a cozy space, amazing food, and great service. We were offered a "splash" of wine since we couldn't be seated right away for our reservation but it was a nice pour and we were seated in 5 minutes. We enjoyed the hot pickles, white pizza, salmon sashimi on avocado, and cabbage rolls for our late dinner. They were all outstanding and service was great. We shared dessert...butterscotch pot of cream...heavenly! Will definitely come back on the next trip to Petaluma!!"

  • "Our first time eating at Central Market and everyone in our party of 5 thoroughly enjoyed their meals, especially the scallops, beet salad and roasted carrots. Portions are actually more realistic and healthy but we had enough of the fantastic bread to keep us satisfied, which probably defeated the purpose. Would definitely go back next time we visit Petaluma."

  • "Wow, we had dinner at Central Market last Saturday evening, and were very pleasantly surprised at how fantastic it was. We were going to a show across the street at McNears Mystic Theater, and decided to try something new in downtown Petaluma. The food was great, the welcome at the front was genuine, the service was attentive, and the ambience comfortable and cozy. Most importantly the food was really great - innovative, fresh, and simply yummy - we started the Montery sardines with fennel crostini to start, then the seared scallops with potato-cauliflower puree, and the Spanish fideua (like paella but with noodles), and then the dessert was the lemon pie with thinly sliced lemons - to die for! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Food is always excellent. Chef Tony never disappoints. We had the 3 course menu and picked different selections and all were delicious. There is something for everyone from the first course to the last. The prices are reasonable considering the high quality of the food."

  • "Had dinner at Central Market for the first time. Food was prepared well using fresh produce. The salads were fresh and crisp with a light salad dressing. I had the special of the night which was trout with asparagus and my husband had the short ribs. Both meals were well prepared. The short ribs were cooked perfectly, moist and tender and not fatty. Our waitress was friendly and attentive."

  • "We really enjoyed our dining experience. All of our entrees were delicious and unique. We even braved the pigs ears and were delighted! The amaretto cookies for dessert we especially memorable. We will definitely come back again when we spend an evening in Petaluma!"

  • "Good restaurant. Food good. We arrived for an early dinner (6 pm.) The light was so bright into the restaurant that it was uncomfortable. Sunglasses didn't help. No shades on the windows. Hard to understand."

  • "We had the awesome crudo with sea trout and avocado and the pork chop which was divine. Sea scallops with basil mashed potatoes. Wow. Butterscotch crème brulee was beautiful. Have eaten at Central Market many, many times and it's consistently excellent."

  • "Great little restaurant with a forward thinking menu. Lots of local fresh foods and a decent wine by the glass list. Don't get up to Petaluma very often....however I would take the time to drive up from SF for dinner!"

  • "Love this place. Thoughtful, creative dishes on the menu; organic, locally sourced produce; great atmosphere (it's a treat, but its not too stuffy); good wine list. If you're having a romantic night then ask if you can book the cosy seat with throw pillows that's tucked away in the front window."

  • "Tucked away unobtrusively in the quiet square of a quiet, still largely rural Northern California town, Central Market is a hidden gem that offers a first class dining experience the equal or the superior of many of the region's restaurants that charge twice the price."

  • "I go to Central Market regularly with my husband and with my girlfriends. I love their fresh local dishes, always done with such creativity and a kind of simple flair. It's my favorite. Barbara"

  • "Wonderful meal and service at the always top-notch Central Market. Fat Tuesday means a special menu in addition to the usual for Chef Tony. We had a great dinner of seafood hush puppies and gumbo. Dessert included a meyer lemon pie a la mode (Three Twins vanilla). Yum! During dinner a motley parade of musicians and revelers made their way from the streets through the middle of restaurant to celebrate Mardi Gras. Use Open Table to reserve your table next year. Not to be missed!"

  • "Consistently a go to in Sonoma County, Chef Tony's approach to localIy sourced food prepared thoughtfully always stands out."

  • "Foodies love it. Much of the menu comes from their own farm. And the fare reflects what you have to do when you produce your own food. You have to use ALL of it - not just what comes in packages. Example - shoe string pig's ear (the animal - not the mushroom). You raise pigs - you use pigs - not just the loin and chops. Fava leaves in a dish. Preparation was imaginative - little things like slicing along the edge of asparagus to give a flatter surface when oven roasting to get a bit more "fond". The wait-lady was a rare combination of an enjoyable presence occasionally at the table yet not intruding into our party. Very pleasant. The place really fit the old-town part of Petaluma. Great for dinner before a concert at McNears."

  • "It was my son's 33 B-Day, he wanted to try CM and on short notice, we got best table in house and seated promptly then....nothing! No drinks, no sign of our waitress. Finally, "Are you 3 waiting for a fourth?" "No, may we order?" It went like that all night. I guessed she was deaf and I was required to "sign" her across the room, or at the next table. During one of our waits, I was telling my son a story, "You know what's weird...besides that woman in the window..." there was a nutty old broad in a tutu and Lennon glasses staring in from the outside; fab local color! I guess?! I died! Son got pizza, burnt, I would have sent back, he ate and pronounced greasy. Mother knows best, my pick in Larkspur was more "healthy", but I had fun @ CM!"

  • "This was my first time to this restaurant. It has been well known locally for years and now I see why it is so popular, My guest and I arrived a little early for our reservation and was seated by what appeared to be the chef. He welcomed and seated us and checked back periodically to check on our table as we were served. The salads, truffle topped raviolis, and entrees (scallops and oxtails) were outstanding. I really liked this place. It is obvious why this restaurant has remained so popular in Petaluma. They had a fire this last year....when that happened, I made commitment to myself, when they reopened, I would not put off trying this place. It's great, and we will return. Thanks chef for a great evening."

  • "A friend and I decided to splurge and went to Central Market for dinner. Everything was 5 star. My friend who has a very restricted diet had enough dishes to choose from that fit her diet. Waiter explained what was in each dish so she could decide what to eat. He never rushed us and was a polite and great waiter. All the food was delicious. Pricey, but worth it for a splurge."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Central Market to celebrate Valentine's Day. We were excited to try a new restaurant with locally grown food. We ordered the French onion soup & a roasted root vegetable plate as our starters, and were both disappointed by the one-dimensional flavor. Both were bland and we expected more. Luckily, we both ordered the same entree- a chicken breast with fried polenta that was very flavorful! Portions were appropriate size for the cost. And our waitress, along with the rest of the staff were very attentive and enjoyable. We never felt rushed or ignored even though all of the tables were full."

  • "We recently moved to Sonoma County and are delighted by the number of incredible restaurants. Yet even amidst these riches, a few gems stand out, Central Market among them. The food is uniquely delicious, even on the appetizer list--who knew that olives could be served hot and that doing so would take the flavor to another level???--and the wine list is wonderful--and personalized, as the chef graciously recommended a bottle the last time we were there and said he'd take it off our hands and drink it himself if we didn't like it. Can't get a stronger recommendation that that. We love this place so much we've gone three weeks in a row!"

  • "Arriving at 5PM we were seated in the very middle of a noisy room, despite my asking for a quiet table. We were able to move to a table along the edge although at a high table with stools. The food was good, the service was earnest. I appreciated the wine in 1/4 liters. I thought the bill was a little high."

  • "Yes, bacon! It comes in the Sweet Gems salad, but I just get a side of bacon instead as my appetizer. Best bacon I've ever had in the universe! Food is excellent. We've have been there a few times now, as have a number of friends, and no one has ever had a bad dish. For the second time now, my wife and I have had to share 3 desserts because we couldn't decide on just one or two."

  • "We love Central Market. However, when we were in for Valentine's Day, during which we were in the middle of a 21-day vegan challenge, the waitress was good at finding things for us to eat, but I really think the time has come that EVERY self-respecting restaurant should have MARKED vegan options. Risi Bisi does, and it just makes it easier. So many people are going vegan but still want to eat at their favorite restaurants.... "V" is for vegan or can be made vegan. It's as simple as that. Also, we think the days of those pressboard floors are over. Invest already."
