  • "Central 214 is located in Hotel Palomar so one might expect an average restaurant. Not at all! The bar is very attractive and the setting looks out onto an outdoor patio that is perfect for warm weather. The server was very attentive. The food was wonderfully tasty with great sauces. We all tried different entrees and no one was disappointed. The food came freshly prepared and hot. Wine list is sparse but covers the basics. An amazing and fun restaurant."

  • "Food was SUPER HOT. not necessarily a bad thing, but you may burn your tongue. -Fries were OK, i'd recommend a different appetizer to try. -Oxtail was DELICIOUS. -Pork chop was OK, I'd recommend getting something else. -Cream of mushroom soup special was OK. As for water, it almost turned into a game to see if I could finish my water before the staff could keep it full. Would I go again, no."

  • "First impression as we walked through was "wow there's a lot of empty tables for a Friday night, especially Valentines Day," I hadn't been here in years, the chefs had changed, but I had high hopes for the food. Our server was very good, but the FOOD....UGH. Roasted squash app was okay, unevenly cooked though (some of the bigger pieces weren't cooked through) I followed that with a wedge salad that had taco sauce on it (?) and that was, well, weird. Didn't work for me. Cocktails were decent, not very strong, expensive. Had the Louisiana redfish for my entree, with sautéed spinach. Redfish had almost no flavor, except for the capers they put on top (which threw everything off) and the spinach was okay, everything was swimming in oil :("

  • "I made a reservation ahead of time and mentioned in the notes that we were coming to celebrate a birthday which the waiter completely forgot until we told him after our entire meal. Every drink we ordered took twenty minutes to make and we could see the waiter chatting at the bar and taking his time instead of checking on us. He didn't even ask to take our entree orders util we had been at the restaurant for over an hour. The men ordered the pork chop and loved their meals but my teak salad was undercook and I was unimpressed. I am a big foodie and had heard nothing but great things about Central 214 but our entire party was extremely disappointed at the lack of service and the mediocrity of the food."

  • "First time visit to this place. Quite modern feel with an open kitchen where you can watch the chef prepare the food. The service was very good and attentive but the food took a bit longer than usual to arrive (perhaps they were short on staff that night). Our meal was excellent. Red fish and Ox tail. Tomato bisque was really hot (most restaurant served soup luke warm at best). Espresso was cheaper than Starbucks!"

Service that is. Exceptional, I eat out all the time traveling the country for my job, this restaurant has made my top five. It's a regular feasting place for me."

  • "Great experience although the inside appears to be very empty with the way it is decorated and size of the seating areas. The food was good and the drinks from the bar were amazing. Heard they will be closing and a new Steakhouse "Knife" will open in their place. I look forward to the new venture, but appreciated this wonderful experience with my Wife."

  • "I celebrated my 70th birthday while driving home on a cross-country trip. We had eaten here before, so booked two nights at the Hotel Palomar Dallas so I could relax and enjoy my specia day. The food, as remembered, was delicious (great steaks! what else in Texas?) accompanied by a lovely bottle of wine (2007 Twomey cabernet). We shared a delicious chocolate cake with capuccino for dessert. On top of the champagne with chocolate covered strawberries provided domplimentarily to our room, as well as a visit to the well-hidden swimming pool, this completed a lovely, relaxing special day."

  • "We weren't impressed with the food or environment. We ordered the sea bass. This dish can be improved with different seasonings. Other dishes such as duck, beef, etc. might have been better. The atmosphere wasn't cozy. I think it's because there are too much room between the tables? It looked like a cafeteria. The cooks didn't look like a chef. They were wearing a t-shirt and jeans."

Jeremy is a Master chemist; James and Kyle and Kyle2 are learning from the master; and Adriana and Michelle (please study the meaning of grace) and.....I will say no more; you must personally experience the Palomar; the Kimpton; the 214 Central.   • "I had a fantastic, well balanced and delicious cocktail at Central 214. Unfortunately, my food experience was not as exciting. Reviews suggested the dinosaur kale salad so I gave it a go. While I'll admit the flavor was nice, it was drowning in oil. Gross. I also ordered the red snapper hoping for a healthy option. Again, oil, oil, oil. That seemed to be the main ingredient. Stick to the bar if you want to keep your waistline in tact."

After reading the reviews online, I had decided visiting Central 214 was something that should have been higher on my list. Everything I had was good, but just not remarkable. No doubt it could have been an off day, everyone has those, I will return again, but the expectations may be lower."

  • "Visited Central 214 before going to the Bon Jovi concert. We were blown away not only by the restaurant staff, but with the entire experience. The atmosphere and decorations were incredible, and had the weather been better we would have enjoyed a drink in the courtyard adjacent to the restaurant. The food was great, with an attentive wait staff and a manager that stopped by to ensure we were enjoying our time there. They even allowed us to reprint out tickets for the show which we forgot, saving our night altogether! We will definitely be back."

  • "We always enjoy dining here. It is a great location and we love the fact that Chef Dodds is always changing the menu to reflect what is fresh and seasonal and surprising to the palate. We tried new items this visit...I tried the Delicata Squash dish and the rib-eye. My other half did the dinosaur kale and the waygu bavette steak, medium rare, of course! They are served over such wonderful items as creamer peas and Heirloom tomatoes, crushed marble potatoes, etc. You really can't go wrong! And the cocktails are inventive to boot!"

Many hotel guests in the bar, but the restaurant was basically empty at 8pm on a Friday night. Outside seating area was great for an after dinner drink!"
