Diner Reviews
  • "I went to dinner here on a very slow evening. I ordered French onion soup and crab cakes. I was a bit disappointed that the onion soup was not more robustly seasoned. I thought it was a bit bland, but I do like full flavors especially in soups. But the crab cakes made up for it - delicious, with a great sauce. I look forward to going to this restaurant again."

  • "I recently dined at Cellar 49 with my family and could not have been more thrilled with the experience. From the wonderful bartender (had a phenomenal pineapple martini at the bar before dinner), to the delightful dining room staff, we were greeted with warmth and smiles, and treated like family. The food was cooked to perfection. To say my family and I enjoyed a blissful food coma is an understatement. Eagerly anticipating our next visit!!"

  • "While the ambiance was nice, the menu is way overpriced...$16.00 for espresso with sambuca (which im glad my husband and I didnt order doubles) is not something Im looking to pay for. Im glad we tried it, but it is not a place we would go back to."

  • "I live in the area and this was my first time at Cellar 49. I thought the service and food were great. Arrive before sunset for a spectacular view of the sunset before heading down to the dark cellar. I would go again."

  • "We went in to try out a new place. Located in the wine cellar of the historic tarryhouse mansion this restaurant has a great feel. Small and intimate with a persistent fire in the corner of the dinning room makes for a very romantic environment. Food was great and everything is made on site. Homemade ketchup and pickles!! Liver pate was a very generous portion as were the pretzel bread. Staff was very friendly and made you feel like you were eating with friends. Will defiantly be going back"

  • "Everything was great. Our waiter Paul could not have been more polite and helpful. The poutine appetizer was off the charts and I am still thinking about my dry-aged steak. Would go there again in a heartbeat and recommend to anyone I know."

  • "My husband and I went to cellar 49 Saturday night for our belated valentines day celebration. We have a 1yr old son so getting out alone is not a regular event for us. Cellar 49 was a perfect night out, we had reservations and we were seated right next to the fireplace. Before sitting at our table we had a drink at the bar, the bartender was so personable and made us feel right at home. Paul was our server in the restaurant and he couldn't have been kinder and more attentive. We had a wonderful night out and look forward to doing it again -maybe in the summer so we can take advantage of the outdoor areas. We would recommend this to friends and family looking for an escape for dinner or the night."

  • "GF and I were staying in Tarrytown on business and found this spot, where she went as a kid. The cellar is truly a cellar and the estate is truly an estate. It's certainly a different experience just finding the restaurant and where to park on a cold, snowy night, but the intimate dining room beside the working fireplace was wonderful. The flatbread was excellent, stuffed chicken very good, and salads above average. I'd recommend!"

  • "We spent valentines night there and had the 4 course meal with paired wines, amazing food and great wine combinations. Ambience was perfectly romantic , amazing service that was helpful and informative"

  • "Everything was fantastic, the courses were unique and the wine pairings were just perfect. My only suggestion, the background music was not on the same level as everything else- classical, such as Beethoven would have elevated the experience. We had a fabulous evening !"

  • "My husband and I love to find wonderful restaurants to enjoy and we certainly did with Cellar 49! We were celebrating our daughters' 30th birthday and were a party of six. Everyone, from the hostess to the maitre d to the servers were both warm and professional. The atmosphere was a delight! We were there on Valentine's weekend so there was a special menu with a pre-selected wine chosen for each course. They were paired perfectly! The food was absolutely wonderful and the special birthday plate of chocolate dipped strawberries was delectable! We all left with a smile on our faces and a promise to come back."

  • "From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. Our server, Paul was vibrant but not too chatty, he was helpful but not pushy, and since I was the one requesting the wine, he poured it for me to taste instead of my husband. (I have dined in 5 star locations and have never been given that opportunity). Cellar 49 is not a very large place, maybe only 15 tables, but the low lighting and the fireplace allow for a relaxed dining experience. My husband and I enjoyed a meal that included both comfort food and something a little more extravagant. This is not to be missed. The wine menu is wonderful, by the way."

  • "I must say the food was fantastic. BBQ Chicken Flatbread was a great appetizer, light yet satisfying. We ordered the short ribs which were delicious, and the pork chop, which may be the best pork chop I have ever had with shredded vinegar apples. The root vegetables are a nice touch, different and prepared well. The service was good, nothing special. Overall the atmosphere was nice, pleasant and clean, but could be a bit warmer and cozy, as it is should be a great date-night restaurant."

  • "Exclent food and service - but need to work on ambience.Warm cozy inn setting but only a couple of tables had clear view of fire and relied on overflow music from bar (vs own jazz or classical which would have been much more appropriate. Also had poor signage indicating where to park along with difficult walk from lot (dark and icy)."

  • "My friend and I dined in front of a roaring fire on a very cold, snowy night. The restaurant was warm and inviting. Our waiter was friendly and engaged. Our food was fantastic. I had a delicious salad. It was so good my friend ordered one to take home. I also had a veggie burger and crispy sweet potato fries. My friend had a steak with tasty asparagus and mashed potatoes. The waiter brought us a bread basket with maple butter and we thought we were in heaven. I had a delightful pomegranate margarita and would have liked another but it was still snowing outside and I had to drive. We were rushed with our meal because we had tickets to a show. Next time I will plan only dinner and really enjoy. I would go back tomorrow if I could!!"

  • "The restaurant was located in the basement of a beautiful conference center. There was a wedding going on above us so it was a little too loud. They had a nice fireplace on the back wall. We found the food to be good and the service excellent. The wine list appeared to consist of wines you would not normally find which was a good thing. The food was good and all the restaurant staff seemed to want to make our visit as pleasant as possible. Our only complaint was that we felt that the food although good and plentiful, was a bit too pricey for what we got. We would try it again if we didn't mind having a larger than normal food bill."

  • "Cellar 49 was by no means a bad experience, it was just an unmemorable one. The food was good, not great. The service was a little above average. I probably would have given this place 4 stars if it wasn't for a few things. Firstly, they lock the doors at 11:00 on a saturday night. My 4 person table was the only sign of life from about 9:45 on. Geriatric at best. Secondly, they have the audacity to charge over $15 for a Johnny Black on the rocks, then pre measure it before pouring it into the glass. I felt this was so tacky, almost embarrassing. The restaurant has potential, but is a real miss in its current form."

  • "Staying at tarrytown house. Breakfast buffet was great. Assumed cellar would be also. Complete opposite. Worst service by hostess and waitress. Food not worth the wait. Even cocktail bad. Do not waste your money."

  • "A wonderful lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Delicious food, great service, wonderful wine. And the desserts are worth a trip. While it wasn't busy we were able to linger and enjoy ourselves."

  • "Went for late night meal. Had the beet salad that was beautifully presented and tasty. The had the salmon, but instead of rissotto, got snap peas. Salmon a bit more done than what I asked for but was still delicious, as were the accompanying peas and mushrooms. Attentive service and nice wine by the glass options."
