Diner Reviews
  • "Service and food was excellent. Ate out on the patio looking over Lake Ave. Restaurant had just opened so not crowded and very relaxing. Also, free parking in the rear. Had an enjoyable dinner."

  • "food and service was quite good...we had the special and a popular item from the entree list. the swordfish in capers and lemon (special) was fresh but i thought the portion was minimal for the pricing. very tasty though. the seafood pasta was also fresh and the sauce was excellent... i scooped it all up with the bread, which was crusty and a bit stale ( i think it was a day or two too old to be served). the wine list extensive and the chianti which i had was nice and matched the meal perfectly. all in all, i would return and try the other items on the menu."

  • "Had a great dinner celebrating my birthday! Dinner was so good and honestly the best Italian food I had. Great wine was suggested to us and it was divine. I love how they sing for you for your birthday in Italian!! Love it!"

  • "It's probably the best Italian restaurant in Pasadena. Having said that, we go to Italy quite often and so it doesn't quite match up to our expectations. It's a bit noisy and crowded. I think they jam up too many tables into the area. However, it is a nice place to take out of town friends and it has good food. Certainly one of the better restaurants in Pasadena."

  • "If you enjoy Italy and Italian food, I recommend Celestino's. The food and service take me back to my fondest memories of great meals in bustling trattorias along the Venice canals and in elegant but unpretentious Italian eateries in Florence. The service sets the tone for a delicious meal. Salads, Pasta, fresh fish, meats - Celestino's has a great menu. Anything with Porcini mushrooms stands out. The sauces are delicious. Fish preparations are very good as is the rotisserie chicken. Celestino's is our go to place with out-of-town company, business dinners and friends. Mangia!"

  • "Went to Celestino's for dinner with family from out of town, thinking from my previous visits that we would have a good dining experience. Unfortunately that was not true. We were seated in the back near the kitchen and a lot of foot traffic, which was very noisy. Our waiter was someone I had not encountered before and he was brusque and pushy. He did not tell us about the specials until we asked (the specials are always very good, although I wish this restaurant- and others-- would tell you the price of the specials and not make you ask) and he disappeared for long periods of time, which is unlike other waiters at Celestinos, who have always been great. It will be a while until we come here again."

  • "Celestino is my favorite restaurant in Pasadena, hands-down. Mario is the best waiter around and the food never ceases to "hit the mark.""

  • "Celestino is a popular Italian restaurant in the business district of Pasadena. I eat there regularly and will often take out of town guests especially if they express a wish for authentic Italian food. The pasta dishes are excellent and they invariably feature a whole fish special (it was Dover Sole the other night). The wine list is extensive especially for Italian wines though expect to spend upwards of $50 for a decent bottle."

  • "As always Celestino's is the most wonderful place to dine. Treat yourself to the best food around and the service is outstanding. Have never been disappointed with this restaurant, and have always walked away with a smile on my face and a very happy tummy too."

  • "While Celestino's has good food, not great, the entire dining experience was ruined by the waiter and the service. This was our 2nd time here. The first time, I recall the waiter we had was a bit rushed and not very good with customer service. This time, it was horrendous. He greeted us after about 10 min by saying "yes?". Unreal! He was rude and loud the whole time, acting like we were bothering him. we will never again return to this place. Just not worth the expense and the food is pretty good, but nothing spectacular."

  • "Most of the time when we travel we go over to "Old Pasadena," but this time we were recommended this restaurant by a coworker. It was just down from the Sheraton hotel (half mile walk) and it was worth it! I am so glad we discovered a new restaurant. The food has great twists on classics."

  • "For the charm of Italy, and someone who knows how to recommend great food/select great wines, ask for Simone! He adds to the charm of Celestino."

  • "Thank you for another lovely experience. Our guests were very happy with the experience. The crew was once again attentive and the food delish. I have to ask. How do you make angel hair pasta al dente? Unbelievable. My Branzino was heaven. With a side of garlic spinach and spaghetti more garlic and oil absolutely delish. My guests had the Lasagna and the penne with the vodka cream sauce and a side of Ricotta. (Who knew?) We are looking forward to our next visit. Gracia Celestino"

  • "We had a nice time....service was attentive, while feeling a tad bit rushed at the same time. Artichoke salad was very good. Our Ossobucco & Veal Chop, was a bit on the dry side...presentation was very good. Tiramisu was to wet for our liking. I would come back, and venture on the Pastas for sure!"

  • "My sister-in-law visited us from New York and was craving Bronzini......so the only place to take her was Celestino's. Mario was incredible serving us. She said it was the best Bronzini she has ever tasted and is looking forward to returning."

  • "Consistently great and authentic food and delightful ambience. A very special place too for a romantic evening. The outside patio is our favorite place to sit, as it's quieter than the main dining room."
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "I made the mistake of ordering the "lasagna bolognese" which is scarcely what the name conjures up. It's a small, almost appetizer-sized serving (my companion ordered something else and got a serving at least twice the size of mine) that comes with a vodka-caper sauce that has nothing to do with the generous, rich and meaty sauce the word "bolognese" leads one to expect. This is a bad recipe and an embarrassment to the restaurant (Celestino's much better sister restaurant Tanino in Westwood wouldn't dream of offering it). It should be removed from the menu. I would be ashamed and mortified if a guest left my own dinner table still hungry, but this doesn't seem to bother Celestino's one bit."

  • "Always I enjoy going there from the warm southern Italian welcome they greet you with till the helpful waiters and the delicious food, most of the time my husband and I we split everything we order to get to taste many dishes which they do it in the kitchen for us, last time, we got Rustica salad, pumpkin tortellini, baked sea bass, and finished with my favorite penna cotta. There are many restaurant to chose from in Pasadena, and we do try the new ones but for more than fifteen years we've been going here and always we leave happy"

  • "This restaurant is absolutely fantastic. I have been here several times with my family and boyfriend and have never been disappointed. Not only are you getting authentic Italian food run by an Italian family, but you are also getting the best service along with it. The moment you walk in, the hostess is very attentive, when you sit down you aren't rushed to order or finish your meal, and there are always new specials and desserts practically every night - everything is so fresh and delicious. At the end of the evening as you leave the waiters shake your hands and wish you the best evening. Parking is complimentary if you park in their lot behind the restaurant. This place is one of the best kept gems in Pasadena =]."

  • "I have eaten at the restraunt several times before. Of course we decided to celebrate Valentines the day before. The service was unusually slow is my only complaint. The waiter did not come and check up on us until we were almose done with our meal. The food is outstanding. So it somewhat offset the slow service."

  • "Dinner tasted spectacular. I dined on a white sauce lasagna with bacon and I was one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. I would recommend for the quality of the food, but the service was a little lackluster. The waiter took an extremely long time to ever approach our table to take our order. We also spent 40+ minutes waiting for the bill even after we asked for it. Otherwise it was a pleasure to dine there. Would go again."

  • "Thhis is a marvelous italian restaurant. Every bite is awesome! The main dining are is very vibrant and noisy, but the small back room is nice and quiet. you can go either way you want."

  • "I will train their staff. I don't own a restaurant , but I own a business and know how to treat a customer. Our customers feel that we are thankful for their business. That was not the feeling we had Friday evening. We felt we were almost a nuisance."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "This was a Valentine Day night out. The dinner was nice, nothing spectacular. The waiters have been there a very long time and a busy Valentine's Day was clearly more hectic than they wanted. We've been there before so weren't surprised. The restaurant did nothing special for Valentine's Day except heart raviolis -which was the best food of the night. Still, my wife and I enjoyed the night and will be back-just probably not Valentine's Day."

  • "The ambiance was great, outdoor dining was great. It took over 2 hours to complete a simple meal for 2 adults and 1 child. The waiter was probably the worst waiter I have ever seen. Took almost 30 minutes to come to the table and take the order, I had to call him back to take my order (he left only taking my wife and child's order). My child kept talking to him, but he would not acknowledge him. The busboy took our dessert order. The waiter came to the table a total of 3 times in 2 hours. After I hunted the waiter down in the restaurant and asked for the bill, it still took 15 minutes to get it. Overall the food was good, but the service and time management was poor."

  • "On this occasion a group of 7 people dining in Simone's section. He always takes care of us very well! It was Valentine's Day so the menu was different. Enjoyed the Lobster salad and the most excellent Rack of Veal. Never disappointed at this restaurant!"

  • "It was Valentine's Day, so it was the busiest day of the year, but the service was excellent. We didn't feel rushed, but we didn't have to wait either. The Valentine's Day menu had several incredible choices, and we both loved it!"

  • "Went in during off peak, quickly seated, bread, butter and water were offered and served. It was my first time and I enjoyed the lasagna. My guest ordered the Filet mignon. The filet mignon had a sweet red wine sauce that was very good. My lasagna was delicious complemented with the bread originally served as appetizer. Will definitely go back!"

  • "The food was very good overall and the service was good. The decor and ambiance are in need of a makeover. The waiters are friendly and helpful. The food is authentic Italian and very flavorful. The best seats are in the front of the restaurant but the noise level is high. Overall a good visit."
