Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent restaurant, Great food, and Wonderful service. What more can you ask for?? The prices are reasonable too. One of my favorite places."

  • " If I were to come to this restaurant again, I would be very careful in what I order. Since this was a dineLA select menu event, our choices were limited, when we took advantage of the deal, which turned out to be a bad decision. Half the items we ordered were very poorly executed. While the Burrata Salad, Artichoke Ravioli and Fruit Ices were tasty, the Gazpacho, Veal with Mushrooms and Cannoli were quite awful. The somewhat cavalier yet jovial waiter offered another entree when he noticed that most of the veal was still on the plate, but we had to decline because it was already close to 10 pm. Celestino is a well-regarded, "authentic" Italian Restaurant in Pasadena. My wish is that they would take the food business more seriously."

  • "Maybe it was who we had, older man(like old grandpa), but he made our night a little disappointing. They probably keep him around for the guests who frequent the restaurant or for the guests who are in his age range. He was a little cold, rattled off the specials rather quickly(with an accent that was hard to understand at times) and hardly checked on us throughout our time there. Other than that, the food was excellent!! Just try not to be seated in the little old man's section. ;)"

  • "Years ago, a foodie friend raved about the food at Celestinos. For my mother-in-laws birthday we wanted someplace special and unfamiliar. The online reviews were very mixed; we decided to take a chance and have regretted it since. While the front room ambience was lovely, the service adequate, the wine pour generous and the bread delicious, the food was a major disappointed and outrageously over priced for what it was. The only dish to recommend was the lasagna ordered by my mother-in-law. The ravioli special tasted like a dish from the Olive Garden (not good!), and my $28 special porcini mushroom risotto tasted like it was out of a box! I didn't complain since in was a celebration for my mother-in-law, but we will not be returning. So sad."

  • "We always like the restaurant and the food, but often the waiters are a bit grumpy."

  • "Great spot. Wonderful staff; timing wasn't "pushed" and the wait staff was attentive without imposing. As an example, we hadn't stated we were celebrating a birthday, but the staff picked up on that and offered a creative dessert. Nice wine list. Salads/antipastos were turned out smartly and were well-presented. Mains were well-presented but lacked detail - rabbit and filet were overdone (for example, filet ordered medium rare was delivered a tad beyond medium... tasty but drier than ordered). racks of lamb were properly done but unimaginative as to seasoning and accompaniment. Not the meal expected of Celestino, tasty but lacking the detail of before. Still a worthwhile dinner option."

  • "My wide always orders the Angel hair pasta. Why? Because these peeps on the line serve it up AL DENTE. I flew in from Baton Rouge to have dinner here. For good reason. The food, the staff, the peeps on the line are Pro's. Keep it up Celestino and we will see you again and again."

  • "this is the second time the experience was not great, service was less than par, the food was great... will consider thinking twice about bringing new clients to this place"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Bland food. Service was off from the start. Olive Garden can compete with this place. Much better options in Pasadena."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Celestino is consistent and offers very good service. The specials always get my attention - this visit I had the Asparagus filled pasta in a porcini mushroom sauce. I have been going for business lunches to Celestino for many years- never have I left disappointed. On the several occasions that I have had dinner there, Celestino delivered. For great Italian food and a warm atmosphere, I would rate Celestino very high!"

  • "Wow! What a treat! My group had a wonderful luncheon of fresh fish, salmon, whole branzino and seabass. Each with a lovely fresh sauce, roasted red pepper, olive oil and lemon. You can come dine at the restaurant and basically tell them what you feel like eating and they will make it happen. A true Italian Gem in Pasadena."

  • "The Drago restaurants are always serving the best and authentic Italian food in L.A. Celestino is the best of the Drago chain, in Pasadena."

  • "Our waiter Mario made it an enjoyable and entertaining dinner. We tried a great variety of food, mostly recommended by Mario. They were very good. Don't think we can do better on our own."

  • "How do you spell perfection? CELESTINO.... that's how."

  • "We ordered the veal chop from the menu and it was delicious. Unfortunately when the bill came it listed the rack of veal special for our order at $9 more each. We complained that we ordered the veal chop, and they did adjust the bill, but we felt reluctantly. It was the waiter's fault, not ours. We still thought we had the chop, not knowing what the rack looked like, but picturing a rack of lamb. So who knows what we had as it looked like a chop to us."

  • "The food here is good, but nothing special. Their portions get smaller every time we go, and the service is a bit slow. There are better places for the money."

  • "It's always a joy to eat at Celestino. The best of Italian food and service. Choose the back rooms for a quiet dinner."

  • "It had been a number of months since I had dined at Celestino's, but it hadn't changed, which is a good thing. The waiters are super friendly and went out of their way to enhance my dining experience. I know whenever I want a great Italian meal, Celestino's is the place to go."

  • "Always fantastic food. Fresh, seasonal and wonderfully prepared. Love to sit on the front patio. Waiters are knowledgeable and strive for good service. Everything I've had here has been really good. Also my turn to host "Girls Night Out" monthly dinner for ten last month and they went out of their way to make it a fun and delicious evening. "

  • "Perfect as always. Great for a business lunch where the server can decide the pasta and main course and split the two!"

  • "It was quiet when we entered the restaurant, but the 4 waiters who were around didn't pay any attention to us. I had a reservation via Open Table and I had to insist they checked that reservation. We were ready to order, but we had to listen to all the specials first.. One of the appetizers, a mushroom souffle, was to die for, but the rest of the food was mediocre. Officially they didn't do wine by the glass, but at the end they did, but we did not know the prices untill we got the bill."

  • "this was a delightful lunch experience with a client....attentive service, warm and friendly staff, really make you feel welcomed. pasta was exceptional...and the bread was warm and crispy....with butter. Could request oil and basalmic I believe in lieu of butter but we didnt' :)"

  • "I love this restaurant and dine here often. I am sorry to report that we had a terrible experience recently with an incompetent waiter. We were seated in the back patio with a large group celebrating a birthday so it was extremely noisy. We were a group of 7. Our waiter was rude and ended up shouting at everyone. He was argumentative and yelled at us throughout. When our bill came things got even worse as he thought we had not tipped him ( we had..as we put the entire tip on one credit care, and not on the others,) we also lost a credit card that was dropped and he thought we were accusing him of stealing it We finally found it under the table. We did not accuse, and he was totally irrational and difficult. Ruined our evening."

  • "We usually have no complaints when we dine here. They seemed especially busy on this evening. There were 5 of us dining. One of the pasta dishes was not quite al dente - the pasta was still hard and when it was sent back, it was still not cooked enough. But, the other pasta dishes were perfect. We will come back, this is one of our favorite restaurants in Pasadena."

  • "Went to Celestino to grab a meal after work. Started off with calamari. The breading on the calamari was great, the sauce was wonderful. I would go back for the calamari alone. The pumpkin stuffed tortellini was amazingly delicious! I'm craving more of the sage cream sauce they served the tortellini with. I don't drink but according to my colleague the drinks were nice and strong. I can't wait to go back! "

  • "Celstinos is one of our favorites in Pasadena. My wife and I occasionally do "date night" there. Just a charming place with great food and service. Highly recommend. Also good for business lunch. Conversation friendly."

  • "Wasn't the usual enjoyable service for some reason. Too much chatting amongst the wait staff maybe? And not enough attention to dedicated clients? The food was wonderful, and of course I will be there every week as I have for years."

  • "Celestinos continues to satisfy, great food, and awesome service Carlos is attentive, knowledgeable and an overall excellent employee. Food continues to awe and surprise us with the specials that are creative but very authentic. Please just vary your vegetables a little its makes your wonderful entrees seem drab, which they are not! "

  • "Service and food was excellent. Ate out on the patio looking over Lake Ave. Restaurant had just opened so not crowded and very relaxing. Also, free parking in the rear. Had an enjoyable dinner."

  • "food and service was quite good...we had the special and a popular item from the entree list. the swordfish in capers and lemon (special) was fresh but i thought the portion was minimal for the pricing. very tasty though. the seafood pasta was also fresh and the sauce was excellent... i scooped it all up with the bread, which was crusty and a bit stale ( i think it was a day or two too old to be served). the wine list extensive and the chianti which i had was nice and matched the meal perfectly. all in all, i would return and try the other items on the menu."

  • "It's probably the best Italian restaurant in Pasadena. Having said that, we go to Italy quite often and so it doesn't quite match up to our expectations. It's a bit noisy and crowded. I think they jam up too many tables into the area. However, it is a nice place to take out of town friends and it has good food. Certainly one of the better restaurants in Pasadena."

  • "Had a great dinner celebrating my birthday! Dinner was so good and honestly the best Italian food I had. Great wine was suggested to us and it was divine. I love how they sing for you for your birthday in Italian!! Love it!"

  • "If you enjoy Italy and Italian food, I recommend Celestino's. The food and service take me back to my fondest memories of great meals in bustling trattorias along the Venice canals and in elegant but unpretentious Italian eateries in Florence. The service sets the tone for a delicious meal. Salads, Pasta, fresh fish, meats - Celestino's has a great menu. Anything with Porcini mushrooms stands out. The sauces are delicious. Fish preparations are very good as is the rotisserie chicken. Celestino's is our go to place with out-of-town company, business dinners and friends. Mangia!"
