CeibaGreat food, ambiance, and serviceThe shrimp ceviche was not my favorite, but my girlfriend loved it. I prefer it more tangy and it was more salsa-esque. Another friend had the pork and said it was VERY tender and tasty. We split the mussels with chorizo and those were tasty. Ceiba is very elegant. We enjoyed our experience.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice surpriseWe got the name of this place from a friend who intended to recommend an entirely different restaurant, but we were happy with the food, service, and ambience here. The food was interesting and even unusual, and very tasty. Nothing over-elaborate, but very well prepared. On the strength of the scallops, it would have rated it a bit lower, but the lamb shank and guacamole were fantastic, and the service was great. I was just visiting, but if I lived in DC I would definitely be back.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNice RestaurantI was really looking for an upscale Latin restaurant with great ambiance and amazing food with amazing spices and flavor. Well, Ceiba definitely provided the ambiance but the food missed the mark. The appetizers were mediocre; we had the muscles and the fried oysters. The oysters were soggy, as if they had been sitting under the heat lamp for a while. And, the muscles were only slightly warm. Thankfully, our server and the staff made up for the disappointing food. I'd be willing to try Ceiba again...just with "limited" expectations.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways ImpressedI've been to Ceiba a number a times and have never been anything less than very pleased. I wouldn't mind if they'd do something a little more interesting with the dessert menu but, even with that, the different items that I've tried have always been good.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodBeing in the same sister company as DC Coast, I had high expectations for the food. I have to say it did not disappoint. The tuna ceviche was excellent, but be forewarned it does have quite the kick. Like some steakhouses, you need to order sides separately. The scallops came with Swiss chard on the plate, but not enough veg to make a proper meal. The prices can be high because of add-ons like apps and side dishes, but I do have to say that the wine list is quite reasonably priced. Since the restaurant is Latin themed, their wine list is as well. Several selections of malbecs and tempranillos, both of which I love. Now if you are looking for a vast selection of Californian or French wines, you are out of luck.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceThoroughly enjoyed the food. Service was superb. The grilled octopus salad was amazing!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ChoiceMy first visit and I wasn't disappointed. The entire dining experience was absolutely wonderful. The staff was very professional and attentive; and the food was succulent. I would definitely dine here again.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and exceptionalGreat food and exceptional service. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favoritesI go to Ceiba often to take a Feijoada to go . I lived 17 years in Brasil and eating the Feijoada from Ceiba reminds me of my Brasil, they do it so well, it's divine! Moreover you don't need to wait too long, in less than 12min I have my feijoada, and you wait at the bar where there is a great ambience! I always recommend Ceiba.

All the food we ordered was outstanding, so we will need to return to try some of the other dishes.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy daughter and I discoveredMy daughter and I discovered Ceiba about 10-12 years ago as the result of an NPR story on their hot chocolate but, since it was 'out of season,' we did not get to try it. When my husband and I decided to make Washington, D.C. our destination for our 30th anniversary celebration, Ceiba's was the first place I thought of for dinner. Little did we know what we were in for. Our evening was spectacular from the personalized anniversary menu to the delightfully entertaining "show" that our wonderful waiter put on for us, the evening was simply perfect! I would highly recommend Ceiba's for your next romantic dinner or a gathering of good friends! Thank you!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWaitress was knowledgeableWaitress was knowledgeable about food and wine, as well as being attentive. I really like Ceiba a lot.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent for seafood. TheyExcellent for seafood. They feature a number of different ceviche apps and a great selection of Spanish and Latin American wines. The service was very good though as the restaurant got more and more crowded, it seemed to slow down some. Seafood enchiladas and crab cakes were especially good.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic, some of the bestFantastic, some of the best high Hispanic cuisine in town.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe did drinks, appetizers,We did drinks, appetizers, soup, salad, and dessert. Chocolate mousse cake was odd - and flan was ordinary. White sangria very tasty.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat caipirinhas, but I'mGreat caipirinhas, but I'm beginning to think it's better for appetizers than main meal fare.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a great lunch: theIt was a great lunch: the food was excellent and it was quiet enough to hold a conversation easily. I like the place and will come back. The only but it is a little pricy, so I will not be back soon.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCieba - A good choiceWe really enjoyed Cieba. We needed a place to dine before the National Theater and they were perfect. We let our waitress know that we had to make a 7:30 engagement and she helped make that happen. They even had a pre-Theater menu that was reasonably priced and we were pleased. The food was good and not over- or under-sized portions which we appreciate. I hate wasting food or leaving a restaurant hungry. I want to go back and explore more items off their menu like the Tequila section and ceviches when we have more time. Both sounded very interesting. A very good dining experience.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service from my waiterThe service from my waiter Justin was amazing. He was very attentive and definitely helped in making the right decision as far as menu selection. Atmosphere was very quaint and had a good atmosphere to relax and have some good conversation at the bar4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I shared the cevicheMy wife and I shared the ceviche sampler and beef empanadas appetizer. Both were excellent. We shared the seafood enchiladas dinner, which was light and flavorful. Desert was very good. We had a chocolate banana cake which was very good. We left feeling satisfied and not over stuffed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very busy and energetic.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff always makes youThe staff always makes you feel special on your birthday with a specially printed menu, a free dessert, candle, and box of caramel popcorn.
The food is spectacular and the service is spot on.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious solo dining, latin flavorI was eating there solo, so had to limit my choices to things I could finish by myself. I had the ceviche sampler, which was good, good, super good and terrific (4 different ceviches - the ginger one was the terrific one), followed by the shrimp and goat cheese chile relleno with 3 salsas appetizer, very good but could have used something to soak up and deliver the delicious salsas to my mouth after the chile was gone, and a citrus flan. The caphirina was great, and the wine and sherry lists were adequately diverse - price and flavor-wise. I would definitely return, with more dining companions next time.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came for our 4 year anniversaryWe came for our 4 year anniversary dinner and had a great time. The food was fresh, flavors are perfectly balanced and the presentation was superb! We were greeted and seated by a friendly hostess followed by a prompt and knowledgeable waiter. We ordered tasty beef empanadas and a guacamole to start things off. We then had the shrimp skewers with a pineapple salsa entree that had a nice hint of chipotle flavor that complimented the fresh salsa.we also ordered the gaucho ribeye that was cooked to perfection. It had fried onions and a chimchirra sauce that was excellent! We ordered a side of rum soaked plantains that went well with both meals. We finished our dinner off with lime tart that was a perfect ending!
Cocktails were tasty too! Prices very reasonable.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMmy wife and I were visitingmy wife and I were visiting town for a long weekend. we stumbled upon ceiba and were so glad that we did! this place was lively, had a great atmosphere and smelled delicious! our server was fun and energetic and made the experience that much better. the food was outstanding. My sister and brother in law, food lovers, were here from SC last spring. We asked the docents at the Phillips Collection where to eat. They enthusiastically recommended Cieba. The waiter was just fabulous and the food was incredible. Each of us had something sublime. I had a vegetarian dish that was made with butternut squash. We had margaritas and then great wine. It was a beautiful evening. You have become so popular that the last time I tried to get a reservations, you were fully booked. So, upon my March birthday, we reserved a table for the following Saturday night. The hostess brought my dessert with a candle. Everyone was so solicitious and gracious.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, great amibanceGood food, great amibance and would recommend to others.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMStill miss the chorizo burgerStill miss the chorizo burger that used to be on the menu, but all the food was good and waiter was fantastic.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFANTASTIC, food was amazingFANTASTIC, food was amazing and service one of the best in the city.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty, well presented dishes.Tasty, well presented dishes. The seafood enchiladas were excellent.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy two friends and I did enjoyMy two friends and I did enjoy our lunch at Ceiba. The only complaint I could mention is that we were shown to a table very close to the kitchen, where I happened to be facing, so a bit of the gilt was taken off the gingerbread, so to speak as I could hear the chefs shouting to each other and a lot of the activity going on in there. The restaurant appeared to be full, otherwise we would have asked if we could have a different table.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, the serviceFood was great, the service was perfect. We had advised the Restaurant that my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary dinner with them and everyone made their best effort to make us feel welcome and included a special "menu" that said "happy anniversary". Although to some of you out there "that" might not mean much, but its in the little details that actually count, at least for us.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMseafood soup/chowderChef Matt continues to update and innovate. Amazing seafood soup, and the new caribbean chowder is fantastic.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBrought a friend who had neverBrought a friend who had never been to Ceiba. He was not only loving the Seafood Cobb, but was literally licking the remnants of the green goddess ramikan.
Always like to bring new people to Ceiba and they realize how talented Matt is.2/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGive your review a title (optional)Great bar scene, excellent well-trained bartenders. Great ceviche. The crackers that come with the meal were stale. Prices are not as high as I had recalled.2/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
