Diner Reviews
  • "Took out of town business guests. Seated at a quiet table where we could talk. Service was seamless, and food was outstanding (as always!) Tuna taco appetizer was a bit on the small side, but other than that, excellent and good value. "

  • "I've been to Ceiba many times and always have had a great time -- food is interesting and well prepared -- the service always great. This last time I took a new friend who knows hers intrnatinal cuisine and was very pleased. Basically Passion Food Group generally delivers -- but Ceiba this night was totally "on point"... "

  • "I used to love ceiba but after my recent experience I don't think will come anymore. The food was cool, they did not have what we wanted it as a first option, the drinks (mojito's) were not that good too watery and we were 4 people."

  • "My daughter and I previewed the restaurant on open table. Based on the menu and reviews, we thought this would be an excellent place to celebrate my husbands birthday. When we arrived the hostess was friendly and the restaurant was beautiful. After we we were seated, things began to get worse. The waiter was pleasant but unattentive. The food was expensive and left much to be desired. Overall, although my husband enjoyed his birthday because he was with family, the dining experience was disappointing."

  • "We've been to Ceiba several times now, first time during restaurant week. While it is a bit price, the food lives up to the price tag and the cocktails are some of the best I've had in DC. I had the Jardin del Eden, which is excellent and the Margaritas are very good too. The sampling of Ceviche is stunning."

  • "I've been to Ceiba a few times and will tell you the food is "very good". Solid across the menu but i haven't found the one "to die for" yet. The crab cake - OK - mash was too sweet. Wife liked duck with mushroom risotto. We grazed thru the starters - tuna ceviche ws the only real star. Skip the mini taquitos - nothing special. So B or B+ - not going to change my life but it's decent. Only complaint i would level is at the server we had. It was 45 minutes til my first appetizer, and consistently 30 minutes between plates so dinner was almost 3 hours.... I wouldn't complain except 3 tables around us sat after us - were served before us and left before us. Not sure what the server had going on."

  • "We dined before going to a show at the Warner. Drinks were great (pisco sour, dark & stormy). Service was attentive w/o being overbearing. The pre-event three course meal is perfect (available until 6:30 & the waiter made sure to ask what time our show was so that we wouldn't be late) & full of surprises, from the pumpkin seed/chickpea spread served with warm tortillas to the popcorn in the ceviche (amazing). Fish entrees were cooked perfectly (salmon and tuna) & presented beautifully. Desserts were nice (flan & mexican chocolate mousse cake). We also enjoyed the complimentary bowl of caramel popcorn (so light & buttery & lovely) that came along w/our check. All in all a lovely meal before a show. We definitely will come back, show or not."

  • "Had a delicious dinner at Ceiba! I love how they are very attuned to whether you have theatre tickets or not so they know when to rush you or not. The ceviche was amazing as was my duck breast. Everyone is so nice and helpful and welcoming. We sat on the couches to wait for our guests and we were made to feel comfortable and not rushed. I would return again and again."

  • "I went for the food, and indeed it was good -- and inventive. Also for a business lunch, and the noise level was not great, and service was excellent."

  • "Tried Ceiba for the first time prior to the theater (only a few blocks away). I was apprehensive, at first, due to the throngs of tourists in town for cherry blossoms, but was pleasantly surprised how readily we booked a reservation and the nice table by the window we were given. The service was absolutely impeccable! It has been a long time since I have experienced a waiter who anticipated needs and questions! Food was prompt and when we mentioned our need to make an 8 pm show openning, our waiter did everything he could to make that possible. The food was great...I had the crab cakes which were delicate, original (no small feat in this area), and just warm enough. High recommended."

  • "Good, not great food. Service was slow and they forgot we ordered dessert even though we had ordered prix fixe menu. But still a good option pre-theatre or show, in general."

  • "Booked at Cieba for a pre-theater dinner. Atmosphere is noisy but elegant. The paella for two was incredible, a treat to the eye as well as the taste buds. A definite place to repeat"

  • "I had friends coming in from out of town and thought of trying a new restaurant, Ceiba did not disappoint. The sea bass ceviche had just the right amount of spice and was balanced out by the coolness of the lime and sweet potatoes. The seafood paella was exactly what I was craving. While the table was being cleared, a busboy accidentally knocked my wine glass into the remaining paella. The staff from the busboy to he waiter to the manager where sincerely apologetic and went to great lengths to make up for this. I will definitely return."

  • "We recently went to Ceiba and everything we had was delicious. Our appetizers were great as well as our entrees. The roasted cauliflower with dates and blue cheese was unbelievably good. Very creative ingredient mixes but they all worked in harmony, compared to chefs who work to hard to be creative and put conflicting flavors in dishes. These were excellently executed and delicious. Our service was very good. The wine by the glass options were also very nice and matched the food well."

  • "A great restaurant and one that I try to visit every time I come into D.C. Varied menu and the dishes are presented very well. My favourite is the feijoada but have tried other dishes. The service is attentive but not too obtrusive. Nice setting with just enough buzz in the background. Great cocktail list-they do a mean pisco sour and caipirinha. Well worth it."

  • "My fiancé and I ordered the tasting menu with pairings (understood why it was pricey). It was Bolivian inspired, my fiancé is Bolivian and I have had real Bolivian food, this was far from it. Not in a bad way Just don't think it's what real Bolivian food is like. Great informative waiter."

  • "Food, service, location are all excellence and we liked that. But the noise level is INCREDIBLE, it was virtually impossible to talk to each other. So I probably will come back, but if, then only with some ear-protection ;-)!"

  • "Fantastic restaurant and food. Great service too. Really enjoyed both times I've been here, definitely going back. Everyone should try it at least once!"

  • "I remember this place being better, but perhaps it has just slipped compared to the competition. Still a good spot, but not as good as other restaurants in the area."

  • "We are visiting Washington, DC to attend a conference and love to dine in restaurants with great food. Ceiba exceeded our expectations. The spicy lamb flautas, salad, and paella were excellent! The apple empanadas ended our meal on a deliciously sweet note. We highly recommend Ceiba."

  • "We hadn't been to Ceiba for a couple of years. It's time for a facelift. Tables are beat up, carpet stained. Food and service are still very good. Disappointed in the featured Paella (for 2). It was overcooked and seafood dried out. Rice was flavorful."

  • "This was the fourth or fifth time we've been to Ceiba in the last few years. Always consistently good. Our favorite in the Passion Grp. Paella was outstanding. Octopus was perfect. Took the sausage out for us on a Friday during lent."

  • "I loved the spacing of the seats to allow you to have somewhat of a private conversation. I noticed that our seats wear a little torn. The food came out pretty fast but I was a little disappointed with the small size of my salmon. I had a huge plate that had much more plate than food. The drinks were amazing. The biggest problem I had was with a rowdy group that was placed across from me. The were talking very loudly and started singing "The Birthday Song" pretty loudly like they were at a TGI Fridays or someplace. Overall, it was an alright experience. I would not be excited to come back."

  • "I might be biased, since I have been to South America and my wife is Brazilian, but we found the food to be only average and only partially authentic."

  • "What a wonderful lunch! I went with a group of colleagues and everything was delicious! The guacamole has a nice twist, with the pickled onions (and you can choose mild, medium, or spicy) and the flatbread crisps with the spread is also delicious. Two people ordered the fish sandwich, one person ordered the fish tacos, and I had the Jamaican jerk salmon. Everything was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I would definitely recommend Ceiba again and again!"

  • "It was my boyfriend's birthday, which coincided with a late work meeting just across the street, so I made reservations here for dinner based on solid business lunch experiences here. My expectations were set by lunch, as it was attentive but not overbearing.. Opted for the tasting menu w/wine pairing. +1 for accommodating the dessert request. -1 for not clearing both diner plates together, and general rushing. -1 point for the lack of attention to the appropriate utensils for each course nor the actual explanation as to what the course/pairing was. Food-wise, the amuse bouche, while on the larger side for a tasting portion, was delicate with smoke infused into the ceviche. Skip the soup course. All in all, won't come back for dinner."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "The staff was accommodating to birthday requests, such as holding a cake and bringing it out after dinner. The waiter was humorous and friendly. Drinks and salsa/tortilla for the table took a little while to come out though. Entrees were delicious and presented excellently. All in all, a great experience. 4/5."

  • "We were enticed by the "Passport to South America" Bolivian menu featured for the month of March. My lady is not only Bolivian herself, but also an excellent cook. We were looking forward to tasting if Ceiba was up to the task. To our delight, Ceiba delivered on all fronts. We went with the five course meal with the wine/beer pairings. Each item was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant. The pairings were solid; at least three were perfect. Ceiba's interpretation of some Bolivian classics were able to showcase the chef's creativity and understanding of the flavors, while paying respect to the traditional dishes that were the basis. We recommend you go and enjoy it yourself!"

  • "I was very much looking forward to the seafood paella. It was well presented, but unfortunately, quite spicy, which I was not expecting because a paella is supposed to be well condimented, but not spicy. .I was unable to eat the paella and returned it. To the restaurant's credit, they did not charge for it. Our waiter Manuel was excellent and friendly. My companion had swordship whihc was nit flaky, almost mushy and bland in taste."

  • "A great pre-theater 3 course menu for only $35. Validated parking 2 doors down and an easy walk to either the Warner or National theaters. You have a choice of any entree off the menu with pleasant and timely service."
