Diner Reviews
  • "The potions of food are big......and the food is really good.........and the wait staff is good to explain the unusual items. I liked the romantic booth that hs been removed, unfortunately, because it kept down the noise level, provided a little privacy for a small group, and added to the ambience, even though the owner probably thought he has now modernized the room -- which is probably also true. My many friends, who're new to Turkish food, have really liked this place. Good downtown location. Thanks for Open Table's points, too!"

  • "Wow, so nice to not have the usual boring menu served at other restaurants. Loved our lamb cooked to perfection. And I am addicted to the Homemade bread. Great service too! Will definitely become regulars here!"

  • "The food was amazing. Flavorful from the first draw of Turkish red wine ( who knew?) to the entree accompanied steamed rice. The mezas (hummus, baba ghanoush & şakşuka) we're amazing with the FRESH dipping/sopping bread. The lamb & beef kebabs surely must have marinated a while to yield such rich flavors. This is definitely a favorite restaurant of mine & only 1000+ miles from home. :("

  • "I was sceptical before arriving, but that was quickly put aside when greeted at the door by our friendly waiter. This little gem of a restaurant was quite romantic. We enjoyed their Prix Fixe menu which included and appetizer, entree, and dessert. My wife and I devoured the appetizer with its fresh baked bread and seven spreads including hummus, baba ghanouch, and five others whose names I don't know but will definitely return to Cazbar to eat again and learn more. The entree was so plentiful that we were able to take home enough to enjoy another meal. In making our reservation, I mentioned it was my wife's and my 16th wedding anniversary, so it was fantastic that they served us our dessert, baclava, with two glasses of champagne."

  • "I have not tried Turkish food before and I am very pleased my friends and I went to Cazbar to have that very first experience. Food was tasty, well served and enormous portions. Service was kind and responsive. I would highly recommend this place."

  • "Cazbar is a real find. The mezzes and manti are as authentically Turkish as you can get, and the homemade bread is to die for. Great ambiance, and excellent kebabs too."

  • "The food is good and a great format for introducing people, including children, to Turkey's food and culture and culinary language. Nice prices, too. Easy place to find -- walk from the Walters Art Museum or Basilica. Waiters are nice. Can dress casually. Good points with Open Table, too. Thanks."

  • "We were delighted with the variety of items on the menu. It was a challenging to make a choice. Each of us chose something different so that we could share and compare. All items were delicious. They clearly had not been sitting in a warming oven, and came to the table at the correct temperature. One of us had the 2 types of Turkish beer on offer and one had Turkish wine. Our very knowledgeable waiter told me all Turkish wines are dry which suited me just fine. Efes beer came as a pilsner or a darker, heavier one. Nothing was rushed. We enjoyed learning to pronounce Turkish words correctly. I will definitely go back and recommend it to my friends. Perhaps next time will go on a weekend to see the belly dancing."

  • "The owner met me at the car gave me a valet ticket. Then walked us in and sat us. I forgot my groupon paid full price and didnt mind. Our server explain everything that we ordered. Everything was delicious! We paid then went upstairs for the show and even got a hookah. Best experience ever!!"

  • "Upstairs was a crowded bar and a belly dancer. Downstairs it was a bit lonely. The waiter was attentive but the meat was dry and over cooked and our Turkish wine, recommended by the staff, pretty ordinary."

  • "The food was out of this world delicious and the wait staff never let our drinks get all the way down but wasn't in our hair either. We did this as a mystery date and had never been to it before. We were very happy. The place was a bit loud but that was partly the result of the authentic old building. All in all a great experience."

  • "Decided to have dinner at Cazbar in Baltimore based on recommendations from the Open Table Reservation website; this was a winner! I had never been to the Cazbar and never tried Turkish cuisine, but the reviews on Open Table were good so I decided to try it. Our waiter made excellent recommendations for food and from the pictures of the Turkish Fruit Wine I had to have a glass or two, okay maybe three! The food came out quickly with the appetizers of bread and hummus being very good. The main course was nice and hot just how I like my food. The only lacking service that evening was the valet. we had to wait for 10 mins for the valet to show up to park my car. Turns out they were shorthanded because an employee did not show up for work."

  • "We went to Cazbar last night as a party of 3 (including a 10-yr old). As always, great food and excellent service. The lamb was extremely well prepared, very intense in flavor and tender. Overall an excellent value. Our waiter was super-friendly and -efficient."

  • "I went out on a limb by buying the Groupon Mystery Date. After purchasing it, I found out we'd be going to a restaurant I had never heard of featuring a type of cuisine that I had never had before. I was a little nervous, but was relieved by the good reviews. We were promptly seated and our waitress immediately put us at ease. She patiently explained what everything was, and even recommended some Turkish wine to complete the experience with the "Taste of Cazbar" that was offered with the Groupon. We liked the first course, even though we're not crazy about hummus and eggplant. The real star was the main entree & salad. Superb!!! Dessert was tasty but thankfully small. We left with a big bag of leftovers. Cazbar you won us over!"

  • "My husband and I were looking for something different for our 22nd anniversary dinner. I looked on Open Table for a unique restaurant, and I definitely found it in Cazbar! We had never had Turkish food before, so we ordered the Sultan's Platter, which had a little bit of everything! The food was wonderful and the service was perfect - attentive without being overbearing. I highly recommend Cazbar to anyone who wants to be a little adventurous."

  • "Although we were not very familiar with Turkish food our server Tatiana was very patient in providing all the assistance needed to ensure we selected the right choices for us. The preparation and presentation of the food was wonderful. The service was outstanding. Looking forward to a return visit in the near future."

  • "If you like Middle Eastern food, this is one to add to your list. Everything was excellent. They have an appetizer platter that is a great starter for a group. We ordered several appetizers, soup, etc. Then only 2 entrees for the 5 of us and it was plenty. They are licensed for hookah use (flavored tobacco). When we were there, it wasn't an issue and we didn't see anyone smoking. It is probably more of a late night thing there."

  • "Like traveling to an exotic destination, this Turkish gem on Charles St. proved to be a fun and delightful culinary experience. From the minute we entered, we felt at home with a restaurant staff who were proud to introduce us to their country's food. The decor is festive and colorful and the food was delicious. We will be back."

  • "The food was awesome and the staff was super friendly. I had never had Turkish food. I was nervous at first, but was super happy we tried it. The only complaint was that we ordered a Black Russian drink from the bar. It was the worst Black Russian I have ever had and the glass looked dirty and half full. Then, it was on the bill for $11. Should have only ordered beer and wine. Beer and wine was good and prices right."

  • "My parents, my wife, my four year old daughter and I had our first experience with Cazbar for as a celebratory dinner for my birthday. To call the service and food outstanding would be an understatement. We had ordered the Sultan platter for four and were shocked. The food had both home feel to it, while bring of a quality to be expected from a very high end restaurant. The service was friendly, and welcoming. I will definitely be visiting Cazbar, again and again."

  • "My friends and I really enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant. The menu covers a wide variety of Turkish dishes and for those who can't decide they offer a fixed price option (for 2 or 4) that includes a variety of appetizers, a variety of meat and seafood for the main course, and desert. The food is very flavorful and the style of preparation makes it healthful as well. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Overall, a very good experience which I would recommend for a nice dinner out and something a little different"

  • "I've had a chance to eat upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs environment gives you a different feel, and I really like the decor. It's too bad the view looking out isn't nicer, but nevertheless, the ambience is still very pleasant. The music seemed to be very fitting, too! Service was excellent (frequent water refills, waiters helping each other out to serve you, follow-ups). The meze is something that seems to be unique - it's an interesting sample of a wide variety of stuff you can eat with the bread they provide. It's light and usually hits the spot as an appetizer for me! The entrees are pretty decent in terms of portion size - definitely lots of meat! The baklava wasn't bad, too. Overall a great dining experience!"

  • "We moved to Baltimore 2 years ago. We love Ali Baba's Turkish Restaurant in NYC, and this is every big as good or better. The meza platter large was plenty for 2 very hungry people, and the special lamb shank was tender and delicious. Paired nicely with Turkish wines the waiter sggested. The bread was interesting and delicious. Turkish coffee and tea were very much like I find in Ankara. We will definitely be back, with friends from out of town. The $6 valet parking is the best deal in town when it is 13 degrees out."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Cazbar, in Baltimore's Mt. Vernon neighborhood. The service was informative, attentive and friendly. The flavors and textures of our cold mezza were interesting and appealing and blended well together. The price was very reasonable. The atmosphere was pleasant, neither noisy nor intimate. I would definitely go back."

  • "One of my best dining experiences in Baltimore. We were a half hour late. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The service was spot on the food was all excellent. You could tell everything was authentcally prepared and done in house. I would recommend this as one of the top restaurants in baltimore."

  • "My family and I had a great meal at Cazbar - comparable to many of the meals we had on our recent trip to Istanbul! The stuffed eggplant was particularly delicious. Service was fast and efficient."

  • "The Iskander (sp?) kebab was tasty, though I was expecting it to come on more of a flatbread instead of chunks of a bread loaf. My wife got the Manti and it was pretty bland."

  • "The food (sultan's platter for 2) was exquisite. Although my husband and I were starving, we couldn't finish the platter. Mostly because the dips and bread they give you before hand is so amazing that you don't want to stop eating and because its actually a lot of food. Since they aren't many nice/fancy ish zabihah halal restaurants in the area its truly refreshing to go to a place like Cazbar."

  • "Our group of 6 opted to try the Sultan's Platter, a perfect choice to try everything or for those unfamiliar with Turkish food - 3 courses consisting of 6 or 7 mezze and that many entree meat choices finishing off with baklava. A great way to tour Turkish food. Almost everyone enjoyed everything! It was plenty of food for 6 women (even though we ordered the Sultan's Platter for 4). Service was excellent too. I will return again soon."

  • "My friends and I come each year after the American Craft Council Craft Show. Just so happened that this year, it coincided with Baltimore Restaurent Week, so we got our appetizer, entree and dessert for $30! Can't top the food. I always especially love the meze - cold or hot."

  • "Cazbar has a wonderful feel about it - we especially liked all the hanging lanterns in the upstairs dining room. The waiter was very good, as were all the staff with whom we came into contact. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I really liked the crab appetizer ("meze"). My gf had the sea bass entre and was disappointed at its blandness. I had a lamb dish that was also fairly unintersting. All were from the special Restaurant Week menu. We would have hoped they'd want us to be tempted to try the more expensive dishes."

  • "We wanted to get something different for dinner before a show at the Lyric. We ordered Sultan's Platter A, to try a variety of things. It was all delicious! They were very generous with the bread so that we could enjoy all the cold meze. The Yogurtlu Pancar and Yogurtlu Patlican were not really our taste but still good. The waiter patiently explained everything to us before leaving each plate/platter of delicious food. Our water glasses were never empty. The second course is easily enough for 3 and everything was cooked well and the rice - amazing! The Baklava was sweet, syrupy but not too much, only issue it was about 2 bites, would have liked maybe 1 more bite. We look forward to going back next time we're in Baltimore."
