Diner Reviews
  • "Good food but not great. Great service but place was empty."

  • "We went there for lunch and there's not too many customers that day, waitress was good and attentive, food was decent. Had trouble with the parking ticket machine, I paid by credit card but there's no ticket came out, thought the credit card didn't work and tried again but same thing happened. Talked to the waiter at the restaurant but he said it's a 3rd party vendor and they can't help me on refund, he said that they have 2 hrs free parking if I have lunch there. Wish I knew that so I didn't have to pay at the parking ticket machine."

  • "We came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday. I was surprised to find out the menu was NOT the same as the one shown here in opentable's website (FYI!). Dinner/Lunch Menu were back to back and hubby ordered off of the lunch menu by mistake. Still, they were able to make it for him :) The food was quite good but we've had other great dishes elsewhere. When we ordered desserts, my daughter's apple and rhubard crisp came with a little birthday candle (a nice touch!) for her to blow. Parking is free at the hotel's covered parking, which we appreciate so much, as it was chilly at this time of the year. Overall, this is a great find in Richmond (laid back and quiet) and we would certainly come back here again, for another special occasion."

  • "We live around the corner and always come here. I would consider their food extremely reliable - what i mean by that, is that whatever you order, you will not be disappointed. But, it's not food that I would classify as extremely innovative. It's a pretty typical American food type of menu - and I don't think that's a bad thing at all! We usually get the sandwiches, they are YUMMY. We've also had their prime rib once, I'm not sure if they offer that still, but i remember it to be cooked perfectly. All in all, a great place to go if you're looking for somewhere quiet. Good for business type of meetings and good for a quiet conversation. We love the staff as well - they are always nice and friendly!"

  • "I had linguini for dinner. Linguini was cooked just right and the sausage that went with it was super delicious and crispy. I have high maintainence for food. The price was reasonable for its quality."

  • "I've been to Carmichaels' just once before, a few months back, when their menu was more casual ($15-$25 plates) and the food was very decent. When we arrived, the hostess/waitress informed us that they just changed their menu (and the prices). I had the fettuccine with scallops, prawns and peas with a white truffle cream sauce ($22) while my husband had the signature burger with the french onion soup substitution ($19). The pasta portion was small - but I have to admit it's the best pasta I've had in a very very long time. I wanted more. My husband's eyes went skyward as he bit into the burger. Needless to say, he enjoyed his meal thoroughly as well. I will come back here again but I will definitely upsize my pasta next time!"

  • "Two people ordered salmon. One dish was cooked right, the other dish was overcooked. Another person ordered fish and chips, one piece was fine, the second piece was over-fried! The cooking does not seem to be consistent. The services was great."

  • "There were 27 guests and one waitress and one hostess. Service is slow but they try their best to accommodate everyone. I think management should plan the human resource better to make sure that there are enough server abailable."

  • "Introduced a group to Carmichaels for a birthday party. I ordered the fried wontons, scallop and shrimp wih mushroom risotto, and chocolate dessert. Very delightful and flavourful. The cranberry bread was nice and warm; we enjoyed it so much that we required a refill. Our server was attentive and food arrives in a timely manner. Ambience was relaxing."

  • "Very disappointed. Our decision to eat here was based on Open table and Yelp reviews. I was duped this time. Limited selection on the menu. Items advertised on their 3 course menu were not the same online as in the restaurant. Service was slow, uninspired and not very friendly. The food was bland and expensive for what we received. A poor dining choice which I will not repeat again!"

  • "The restaurant has set menus as well as a la carte. There were only two other parties dining so there was only one server the entire night. Having said that, he was prompt and friendly. The food was a slow to come out and the flavours were fine. To our delight, the prices were much lower than we expected from a hotel. There were a few other items I wanted to try, so I probably go again."

  • "We had the most wonderful, friendly waiter - I think Ryan was his name, he was so very funny too. The food was excellent, from the mussells to the bread pudding, and my salmon was exceptional. (I usually have to add salt and lemon juice, but it was perfect, tasty and just enough to make you want to come back for more :) I definitely will visit Carmichael's again and again."

  • "Went there for lunch. Actually butter chicken I ordered wasn't too bad. Service was good too."

  • "We came here during the Dine Out Vancouver promotion and the food was surprisingly good. The smoked salmon appetizer was refreshing, steak was large but tender and cheesecake was delicious, not heavy. The restaurant was quite empty when we went - it was too bad. They serve great food."

  • "Fantastic as usual. My fourth time here, and never disappointed. Came for dine out lunch"

  • "We enjoyed our visit to Carmichael's during Dine Out. We were a large group of 10 women so the noise level probably increased due to our presence from quiet to moderate. The food was well-prepared but didn't arrive at the same time for everyone to be able to eat simultaneously. The shrimp wontons appetizers were very good, as were the mussels. If I had to choose again, I'd go for the mussels. The chicken stuffed with shrimp was delicious. All of the desserts were fabulous, although I'd have to say that the Bread Pudding tied with the Chocolate Crunchy Bar. It's hard to beat chocolate, but the bread pudding came close!"

  • "Comfy place to catch up with a friend on a quiet weeknight for dinner. Ate at the lounge by the window. Tasty beef stew and salmon, service was nice and unrushed."

  • "Good food and reasonable prices. very quiet and clean. Excellent service. A few brunch items on the menu would have been nice."
    Dined on 10/28/2012
  • "Overall, the restaurant and food were okay. We went there for dinner on a weeknight so it wasn't very busy. The menu selection was limited but had enough variety. The food was okay but nothing special. The fish & chips were good but the butter chicken was lacking (fake naan bread and not very flavourful). I would go back to try the brunch sometime as I hear it's pretty good."
    Dined on 7/10/2012
  • "Excellent service as always. The cranberry bread was delicious. All of the dishes we had were great. I particularly liked the soy honey garlic wings. The only downside is the limited menu."
    Dined on 5/15/2012
  • "When we arrived they didn't have our reservation but as we were almost the only ones there, it didn't matter. I had the squash ravioli and my husband had the filet. We both thought the meals were nicely presented, hot, but not spectacular. Because of the location in the hotel, it was rather open and not very intimate. Also, there was no parking on the street and we didn't know we could have got a pass from the restaurant for the parkade."
    Dined on 4/22/2012
  • "The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived on Friday night. The menu was also very limited. Having said that however, we both ordered the filet mignon. It arrived propmptly, was perfectly done to medium rare as ordered and was very tender and tasty. The plate was well presented and the service prompt."

  • "Restaurant was next to empty on a Saturday night. Food was fair, just not very exciting."
    Dined on 4/7/2012
  • "The menu wasn't quite what I was expecting, quite limited (whole menu is on one page) with no theme (options from many different cuisines), but both of us dining had the new york steak and it was prepared perfectly and I enjoyed it. The prices seemed reasonable to me, but the restaurant is open to the hotel lobby and the sports bar across the corridor contributes to the noise in the restaurant."

  • "nice and quiet environment, good service and friendly servers."

  • "I was really surprised by the quality of food and the excellent service! The sandwiches were delicious and the butter chicken was awesome. Loved the mango chutney accompaniment... Prices are quite friendly as well."

  • "We were the only ones in the restaurant for a 6pm seating until a party of about 6 arrived around 7pm. The menu was very limited but what we had was very good."

  • "The food was outstanding and the Dine Out Vancouver experience is a great way to get out and enjoy some of our great restaurants and some outstanding food. The service at Carmichael's was very nice. Very courteous, pleasant, attentive staff without being obtrusive and each course was served promptly. An open concept layout creates a bit noisy atmosphere so I wouldn't recommend this for a romantic evening per se but none the less it was comfortable. A typical hotel restaurant but with exquisite food and very good service."

  • "what a surprise to find a great place to dine! I wasn't too sure about coming here at first so i took a risk that paid off on our last Dine out Vancouver "adventure". The crab cake appetizer was the size of a burger with an absolutely delicious spicy sauce to go with it.....wow!!. I was worried i wouldn't have enough room for the filet mignon that was still to come as that was what we came for....we WERE NOT disappointed!! Cooked to perfection with an incredible muschroom sauce over it, and perfect mashed potatoes and asparagus to go with it. Bread pudding with ice cream after sealed the evening. Couldn't have asked for a better dining experiece!! Will definitely be back!!"

  • "Tried the dine out menu with friends. Service was okay. Food was terrible. All the entrees are overcooked. The filet mignon tasted so bland. The only thing is worth eating is the double chocolate cake."
    Dined on 1/26/2012
  • "Service could have been better. Took too long for server to re-appear to clean table off and deliver entrees/ desert/ etc. Food was ok -- but nothing I would go back for. When it was time to pay the bill we had to wait about 10 minutes for one server to get our server so we wasted a lot of time "waiting". Left a $10.00 tip but the service didn't warrant that."
