Diner Reviews
  • "The Caesar salad and seafood dishes draw us back several times. Last Saturday we invited our friends to join us , but that night the dinning experience turned out to be a disappointment . First, we were served with cold bread, we could taste the solidified butter in it. Later my husband and I found the shrimp in Gamberi Della Casaa and Pesce Con Gamberi Alla Griglia were smaller in size than our previous dinning. After dinner, we had to look very hard to find our waitress for coffee and dessert. The coffee came with lukewarm temperature, the dessert were good. We had to wait another 10 minutes after we requested for another refill. It did not worth about $200 dined 4 this type of service. We will think twice if we ever want to return."

  • "We visited this place as it had some great reviews...it really is deficient in many matters. My veal was a bit tough, pasta over cooked and dessert at best mediocre. Not all what we expected."

  • "If you are looking for good Italian food that gives you the most bang for your dollar you need to visit Cavatore's. Known for the best Cesar salad in town, they make it fresh at your table side and that alone is enough to get you to come back again and again. The pastas are fresh and portions will make sure you leave happy."

  • "I'm excessively picky when it comes to Italian cuisine. I can count on one hand the number of Italian restaurants in the entire city of Houston worthy of my dining. Cavatore it one of them. The food is outstanding here. I ordered Eggplant Parmesan. It was perfect. The eggplant had a nice crisp coating, and the inside was tender, but not overly moist or mushy. Topped with just the right amount of sauce, I enjoyed every bite. My dining companion ordered manicotti. She said it had a nice creamy filling, and it held together well. We also ordered a Caprese Salad as an appetizer, and it too was very good. I highly recommend it, and look forward to returning to Cavatore to try the other items on the menu."

  • "We used to go Cavatore quite often but had gotten out of the habit and decided to take family from PA and Texarkana there. The food, service and ambiance were excellent. Even after 30 years, the decor is still enjoyable. The waiter checked on us just the right number of times, and he was very helpful in discussing the menu and the wine selection. We ordered the Caesar salad for the table, and everyone enjoyed it. Entrees were excellent, with one of our guests specifically noting how fresh everything was. We also very much enjoyed the chocolate cake. The singer was wonderful--and she was not too loud, so we were able to talk fairly easily even though we were close to the piano."

  • "Around the time of the Godfather movies, a class of Italian restaurants serving New York / Sicilian fare were opened around the country. Cavatore reminds me of such a place. However, unlike many of those older retaurants, this one remains and provides a high quality menu consisting of the New York brand of Sicilian pasta dishes. The scene is more townie than hipster, but that is not a knock. It's part of the charm, and younger couples and families are starting to find this gem and integrating with their older neighbors. The interior is easily mistaken for a kitsch'y wall of collectibles, but a closer inspection shows a genuinely creative (and overflowing) eclectic mix of collectibles; this isn't Katz's kitsch."

  • "We love this place -- friendly, homey, authentic Italian cuisine in a quirky reconstructed barn with Italian memorabilia decor, particularly classic Italian movies. Piano lends a nice touch to dinnertime dining. The Caesar salad is entertaining in its creation, and the best I have ever had."

  • "The food was exceptional, service great and a surprising find. It is perfect for groups, as there are partitioned spaces available. They will also seat you in a room by yourself if they are not too busy so you can have a romantic room to yourself:)"

  • "The Host were great very helpful. She even went to the bathroom and helped me fix my bra. Our waiter came over hurried us to get our drinks. When we didn't know rushed us to agree with waters. I like lighter wines and my boyfriend likes a drier wine i was trying to get her opinion on a good wine from your list and she just pointed at one. I asked could we sample she said no, only came by the bottle. we ordered it and I hated it. She never ask us if we enjoyed the wine. My boyfriend wanted an appetizer as a entree she said it couldn't be done -could have made a double portion of it and charged us extra so he could have had what he wanted, but instead forced him to get Chicken Alfredo. Just poor service from her (& i cant even tell u her name"

  • "Love Cavatore for its quaint ambience and atmosphere. Cozy and romantic. And we always live Mood Indigo's music when they are there. Their mellow music and songs add so much to the atmosphere. Food is great. Their table side salad is fantastic and service is excellent. Definitely recommend!"

  • "This restaurant was great. Great location. The food was very tasty. I had the T bone and my husband had the shrimp fettuccini. We did not feel rushed especially on this holiday. The waitress was very attentive but not over bearing. We ordered tiramassu which was also wonderful. I would definitely go back."

  • "Very loud piano player.......service was slow.......food over priced for quality. Noise level very loud during piano playing. We have a group that goes out once a week, we return if it is good, will not be returning to Cava"

  • "Cavatore's is still one of my favorite places for "fancy dining". In my mind, I compare it to a Buca di Beppo, but independent and unique in every way. The place was slammed (being Valentine's weekend), and our servers took it all in stride and showed us great attentiveness. No mistakes, everything exactly as we ordered, and delicious as always. I rarely had to wait long for a drink refill. I had the Vitello Piccata, which is a much-loved dish, and this is still my favorite place to get it. Ask for the table-side Caesar salad and you may be surprised as to what goes into one. Parking was somewhat tricky as my fellow patrons seemed unable to see those white lines, but we were seated promptly upon arrival, thanks to a reservation."

  • "had a great evening. live pianist inside with live jazz guitarist on the patio. very nice ambiance. evening did not start out perfect though. we were a young couple and they sat us way in the back away from the music and right next to a large family with lots of kids. kids are fine, but on valentines the families should be sat in one area and the couples trying to have a nice romantic evening should be sat in another area. that was the only miss by this restaurant. our food took a little while for some reason but the manager came over and apologized and made sure we were still good. we were in a great mood once we asked to change tables closer to the music. food was awesome - get the filet and the tomato soup!"

  • "We had a lovely dinner here! The best part by far was the Caesar salad made fresh right by your table. The dressing was so light and fresh I could have just eaten that. The complimentary garlic bread was also fantastic! The entrees were very satisfying, and the deserts were good. While the ambiance and decor is casual and eclectic, their is an elevated manner to the food and most of the wait staff. There was also a live band on Saturday night which was really fun. Great for a fun evening out. Make a reservation though, they were completely booked up!"

  • "When you get there you notice the crazy overly-decorated layout and it makes you feel like you're visiting crazy relatives, nevertheless, feels homely. Even though it was a busy night, I only waited like six minutes to be seated. The server was busy but attentive, after a while she bonded with us in a special way. I recommend this server, her name is Martha, she's been there for ten years and it shows. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and they have variety. I would definitely be back soon."

  • "We used to visit Cavatore at least once a month for years. We gradually started eating closer to home. Then for my 60th birthday my whole family surprised me with a dinner party at Cavatore. It was like coming home again. Now we eat there for special occasions. The food is so delicious! Such a treat!!!"

  • "The evening started out great, we were late for our reservation and called the hostess and was told we could move the reservation to a half hour later-thank you! However, once we were seated, there was a woman seated with her date on a cell phone. I would request that any restaurant that people are willing to pay $100 per couple, to implement a NO CELL PHONES policy, and NO CHILDREN, with the youngest of 3 or so, who screamed when she didn't get her way. Then the lady got off the cell phone about 5 minutes later, then a family came in with 3 small children. I would suggest in the future to request to NOT be put close to children and not to find out if the restaurant has a NO cell phone policy."

  • "This was our first visit and we were quite surprised. The decor is interesting and we were quite entertained with the live singing and piano music. Our food was very traditional italian and delicious. We were looking for good food in a casual atmosphere and we were not disappointed."

  • "This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. It's near The Heights, Lazybrook, and Timbergrove. The place is an interesting old barn with great Italian food and an excellent piano player. It's hard to find a restaurant these days where you don't have to shout to have a conversation. You can actually have a conversation while dining!"

  • "As a foodie, I'm sometimes skeptical when a friend says how great the food is at a place. Cavatore didn't let me down!! I love that it's a little off the beaten path so it's not overly crowded, but the food is so fantastic that it should be! The Pollo Francese was so good, I was sad when it was gone. The table prepared cesare is pretty amazing too. The tiramisu was great and I could just picture a little Italian woman making it in the back. We will return for sure!!"

  • "We had reservations for 6:30 and yhey accommodated us right on time. We love the eclectic ambiance, the staff is always very accommodating. Our server didn't know all of the answers to our questions this time, but I think she might have been somewhat new, but what she didn't know she found out for us.As a vegetarian and would like to see a vegetable lasagne on the menu, but my husband, who loves veal Marsala said the Marsala was one of the best he had ever tasted, with just the right flavor balance. I had the eggplant parmigiana, it was delicious, as was the escargot and the cooked perfectly asparagus. The Caesar salad they are known for was delicious, but could have been better without the Tabasco.! Heres to another 30 years! Love it!"

  • "My husband and I decided to take my mom out for dinner and tried Cavatore on a whim. We had a wonderful evening. The sevice was outstanding as the waiter was helpful, kind, and friendly. The menu was pretty extensive, however we all ordered different veal dishes that we all found to be tasty. The food came out fast too. There was a piano player and a singer. The music was a lot of fun, some of the patrons clapped along. The restaurant is set up in rooms although the walls are opened up, so we were able to enjoy the music even though the it was in the next room. They have a nice, big parking lot and we still found a spot with no problem. Both on the way in and out of the restaurant, we noticed a security car pacing the lot- we liked this."

  • "We stumbled onto this restaurant when looking for a place to quickly get a bite to eat with the family; 6 adults and a 1 ½ year old. There was live music, Jazzy and oldies. very nicely done. They are there every 4th Tuesday of the month as well. They made fresh gluten free pasta for us on request. It took a little longer but was excellent. Better than normal pasta and not the full and bloated feeling afterwards when eating late. Even with some of the creamy sauces. All in all, we will be back."

  • "the restaurant was filled with regulars having a great time - us (a party of 5) felt at home in the relaxed atmosphere! the menu was comparable to Italian food I was used to seeing in Chicago and it did not disappoint. Prices were fair to a bit high (my shrimp were a bit freezer burnt) but the sauce made up for it! Service was a bit slow - but did pick up after a few large groups left. Will be back and this time - i will save room for dessert!"

  • "My wife and I choose to dine at Cavatore's when we drive in from Pearland for events in town. We've done this for years-once every month and a half or two. The host was pleasant and accommodating when we arrive d15 minutes early. Traffic was decent. The Caesar salad sets the standard for Houston in my opinion. Our waiter was friendly and warm. Now er come to the "yes, but". The gentleman serving our meal stood on the opposite side of the table and just sort of dropped the food in front of us rather than placing them. He didn't say anything and just walked off. My wife and looked at each other because it seemed so out of character. This is one of those. "everybody;s got a bad night"situations. We'll come back, of course."
