A word from Catherine Lombardi
Catherine Lombardi was the grandmother of owner Mark Pascal. Pascal, part owner of Stage Left Restaurant, brings his signature obsession with quality local ingredients to the cuisine of his youth. Catherine Lombardi's family came to Brooklyn from Naples. Her cooking was Neapolitan-based and heavily Brooklyn-influenced. It brought her whole extended family together every Sunday. Come taste why.

Cited Best New Restaurant and Best Italian Restaurant by NJ Monthly Readers’ Choice Poll, the red sauce is largely made from tomatoes the restaurant staff picks locally. To-order mozzarella, pressed eggplant rollatini, great pasta and a veal chop to die for are highlights.

Hand-made fresh juice cocktails are featured at the cocktail bar overlooking revitalized downtown New Brunswick. 21 new windows overlook downtown, offering a dramatic bird's-eye-view of The New Brunswick Theater District. It is a crown jewel in New Brunswick's thriving redevelopment.

  • "Catherine Lombardi's rivals many of the best restaurants in Manhattan, London, or LA. Our evening was a family get together, and it was relaxing and not rushed, the food was superb, and the service formal and friendly. This is a very expensive restaurant and only we dine there on special occasions (party of four with a reasonable wine will exceed $100 PP) but it is well worth it. Don't miss the antipasto selections (we enjoyed six small plates, and especially liked white anchovies and house made Capanato). Pasta dishes included crab/lobster stuffed ravioli, wild boar ravioli, and pappardelle with black truffles. Their pasta is house made and has the perfect chew. A not to miss is the veal porterhouse which is always is outstanding."

  • "This was our third time at Cathrine Lombardi's and it is always constantly good. The pasta's are like grandma used to make and the appetizers are to die for. Our only concern was that the noise level in the restaurant was a bit on the high side but beyond that, everything was superb. It is a great place to dine before catching a show at the New Jersey State Theatre. If you have leftovers, they will even hold them until after the show when you can pick them up and stop in for some dessert or a nightcap. A great concept! We will be back!"

  • "We have eaten at Catherine Lombardi's before, and always found the food delicious if pricey. We took our teenage son to dinner as a treat before seeing a show. The restaurant was very busy, but there seemed to be plenty of staff wandering around. That said, we were seated next to the kitchen entrance (even though other tables were available) and then pretty much forgotten, except, on occasion, by the manager who seemed to take pity on us. Frankly, we very much felt like second class citizens because we weren't regulars... As for the food, it was fine, although my eggplant parmigiana had clearly sat waiting for my son's dish (seafood di viala), which was steaming hot. Drinks were also OK - my cosmo had also sat around."

  • "The dinner was wonderful, but the service was very slow. We told them we were going to an 8:00 PM show 2 doors down. We arrived @ 6:00 PM and walked out @ 7:55 PM. The other problem, 2 for 2 the desserts were not what was listed. The taste was ok, but that's not what we ordered. A rum crème brulee, that had no rum flavor. A chocolate hazelnut bread pudding, no chocolate or hazelnuts ( told by the waitress big chocolate bits & great rum flavor). We didn't eat them, alerted the waitress and nothing was done for us. I think when you have just spent over $100 on a meal, they should have deducted the desserts. "

  • "We have gone to Lombardi's a lot. The food is very good, when they have it available. They seem to run out of things quickly. We got there at 7:30 and one special was gone and another needed substitutions. This happens every time we go there. The other issue is the noise level. The acoustics are VERY bad. It is hard to have a conversation. "

But the food is less then average and quite expensive. Our meals were overcooked (pasta and seafood). I'll only go there for a drink in the future and dine elsewhere. Too bad they don't even notice how lousy the food is and how it will be their undoing."

There were 10 of us and they gave us a large round table so we could talk to each other and with a view looking out on George Street.   • "We had great service. In fact it was noticed that we toasted our friend "happy birthday". After enjoying a nice dinner and ordering coffee, a plate of wonderful cookies was delivered to our table with a chocolate HAPPY BIRTHDAY written on the rim. We thought this was such a nice gesture ( these were not ordered)until a charge for this platter was included on our check. Because we were rushed to get to George Street Theater, my husband did not make mention of this charge. A bit disappointing for that reason only!!!!"

The head bartender is a talented mixologist that has created an extensive cocktail selection that is second to none.   • "This is now probably my favorite Italian restaurant. The food was incredible and we didn't even leave room for dessert. The owner, Mark Pascal, came over to the table and made us feel very welcome. The Apps were out of this world. From garlic bread to Jamon Iberica to Seafood Salad, the apps were out of this world. Everyone at the table also raved about their entrees. It is definitely pricey but well worth it."

We have had much better food (at similar prices) at other restaurants in the immediate locale. The only thing to recommend it was that it was an easy walk from the State Theatre. But even with that convenience, we don't plan on returning to Catherine Lombardi's."

  • "I was part of a party of 6. We were an hour early. The Maitre'd paniced a bit, but seated us within 30 minutes. 5 of the six were delighted with their meals. I had a Pork Chop stuffed with sausage. I t was mouth watering delicious. The only complaint came from a friend that ordered the Shrimp Scampi. She said it was too lemony for Scampi. We ordered 5 Soups, 1 Salad, 1 Round of Drinks which were assorted house wines, 6 Entrees and 6 desserts, 1 was Crème Brulee and the remaining 5 were Sorbet or Ice Cream. The Bill was $400 including a tip which was automatically added to our bill. This restaurant was good for a very special occasion. The Server was Very good. I think that its pricey because of its proximity to The State Theatre."

  • "The appswere a hit, especially the parmigiana cheese and the mozzarella carrozza . My swordfish entree was excellent, and prepared the way I asked. The same, however, could not be said of the flounder special, which the other three diners chose. It was mushy and had the feel of having been frozen, then thawed. The new recommended wine was superb. Desserts, as usual, were the typical crescendo to a great meal (but for the flounder). We left on a sour note, however, when the coat check girls (3 of them) had no idea what they were doing. They lost my good umbrella and had SIX number 56's. How does that happen? Aside from that, it was a nice evening and a good meal with friends."

  • "The food was excellent and nice decor, but I had issues with the noise and their service practices. Our first table was so noisy we had to be asked to moved. The second location was better. They use some kind of team approach where any one or every one of the twelve (?) people working there serve everyone. It got almost silly at times, like "who are you?" when yet another face would come to the table. It also got annoying when I had to tell five different servers and the manager that, yes, I was still working on my plate (no one waiting for our table, so rushing us out was not their goal). If the place had dedicated servers or even a few servers per table, I would not have had to tell the entire staff individually that I was not done yet."
