A word from Catherine Lombardi
Catherine Lombardi was the grandmother of owner Mark Pascal. Pascal, part owner of Stage Left Restaurant, brings his signature obsession with quality local ingredients to the cuisine of his youth. Catherine Lombardi's family came to Brooklyn from Naples. Her cooking was Neapolitan-based and heavily Brooklyn-influenced. It brought her whole extended family together every Sunday. Come taste why.

Cited Best New Restaurant and Best Italian Restaurant by NJ Monthly Readers’ Choice Poll, the red sauce is largely made from tomatoes the restaurant staff picks locally. To-order mozzarella, pressed eggplant rollatini, great pasta and a veal chop to die for are highlights.

Hand-made fresh juice cocktails are featured at the cocktail bar overlooking revitalized downtown New Brunswick. 21 new windows overlook downtown, offering a dramatic bird's-eye-view of The New Brunswick Theater District. It is a crown jewel in New Brunswick's thriving redevelopment.

Pleasntly surprised by the amibance. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Drink list is extensive and unless you're an expert, you'll have to ask the waiter for interpertation or recommendation. My wife loved hers, I was not thrilled with mind. However, the food was excellent from appetizer to desert and everything in-between. Must try the "very garlic" bread. Will definitely go back.

The ambiance of the dining room was everything we expected it to be for an upscale restaurant in the New Brunswick theater district. We all agreed that the food could have been outstanding except that it was too salty. The restaurant boasts of menu offerings that are authentic Catherine Lombardi recipes and the Parpadelle with Bolognes Sauce and Osso Bucco were reminiscent of traditional Italian home cooked Sunday dinners. The biggest diasappointment was the staff that made us feel pressured to complete the meal so they could clear the table for the next seating.

This was the perfect choice, as usual, for bringing guests who had never been to New Brunswick ever before. The food and service were exceptional, and best bar in NJ is a safe title, we loved our cocktails. Pesto is one of my favorites but THIS pesto was beyond expectations, everyone at the table had to try it!

Our waiter rushed us at the beginning of the evening but otherwise the service was good. The noise level was too, too, too loud and at times made it impossible to hear conversation comfortably without shouting across the table (we were a party of 6).

We brought a friend to New Brunswick who hadn't been there since our college days. Catherine Lombardi's was our choice, and it was a good one. We shared the cold antipasto appetizer which was delicious, and our entrees were all good. Despite the size of the restaurant and the number of people dining there, we had no problem with the noise level, something that is rare these days. We have dined here many times, and each time our meals are delicious.

This restaurant was highly overrated. Food was OK at best. My entree was awful and sent it back. The waiter was annoying. Kept hitting me in the head with his elbow. Kept slamming into the chair of another at the table. Spoke so fast we kept having to ask him to repeat himself. I would not recommend nor return

Another very nice dining experience. Not fond of the wine list though. As a "wino" with a pretty good cellar at home and after having made annual trips to Napa, Sonoma and Chateauneuf de Pape, much of what I see is little known or obscure and pricey. On the upside, the cocktail list is wonderful, especially the tequila cocktails!

We came into the restaurant prior to a show, the server asked us if we were here for a show and let us know they would have us out in plenty of time. We had the two pasta meals, I had the black spaghetti and it was awesome. My wife ordered the papardelle with the bolognes sauce, thre was nothing left over!! We ordered the seafood appetizer and the server recommended what we would order; the Octopus, the calamari, and the shrimp, which was also terrific. We also ordered the homemade garlic bread, which was warm and garlicy just was we thought it was. We finished up with the mascarpone cheese cake, which was also very good. We ordered a nice wine from Piedmont, on the cheaper side, but the server told us what a good choice it was.

This was our second visit to Catherine Lombardi. We (party of four) arrived early for our reservation so we went to the bar. Chris was the bartender. He was very knowledgeable and we had good discussions about various whiskies, etc. We later complemented him to our server who said that Chris "knows how to make every drink in the world", which I believe. Since it wasn't crowded, we spent an hour at the bar after our reservation time. All our appys and meals were fabulous. CL doesn't have an exotic menu but the food is prepared exceptionally well. The service is attentive without being intrusive. We never had to touch a wine bottle, someone always was there to pour at just the right time.

We had a table at the window with a fantastic view. The service was impeccable. The food was so-so. This was our second time there, the food was much better the first time. My ravioli tasted bland, very tough and dry. The meal my husband ordered was smothered in a mixture of tomatoes, onions and I think mushrooms, but it looked and tasted like a hot mess. The gentleman who may have been one of the owners came & took our plates away and was rather sarcastic, he probably was just trying to be funny but it missed. The noise level was unbearable when we first arrived, but did go down a few notches when people left for the theatre. I didn't feel the food was worth the price.

Let me start by saying this was the third time I dined at CL. It is usually a wonderful romantic special ocaison restaurat with great food and meticulous service. That's why I went there for my girlfriend's birthday. Due to there high demand, we were seated in the Wine Cellar room. It was very cold, and told that it was required for the propper storage of wine. It was not good for humans. Our waiter graciously offered my date a big woolen shawl. This was kind, but transformed her carefully choose elegant dress into a grandmom look. Whoops, I shouldn't have told her that. At any rate, I would recommend CL, but when you make the reservation, be sure it's in the main dining room. I would not accept a reservation for the wine cellar.

Best dinner I've had in a long time. My girlfriend and I arrived and were promptly seated, and right away our server asked us if we wanted champagne to start. The rest of the night we got our orders in similar quick fashion. The wine list was expansive, the environment's ambience was amazing, and prices were high, but that's to be expected (spent $160 total, $30 for each entree, $15 for each glass of champagne and $13 for each glass of wine, then a 25% tip but that's just because I was very happy with the service). Guys looking to treat their girl, look no further!

Had a business dinner here. Asked for a quiet table and they were very accommodating. Service was very attentive without being pushy given that the business discussions required about 2 1/2 hours. Wine list is outstanding and the sauvignon blanc I selected was excellent and reasonably priced. Special crab and lobster raviolis were just as described and delicious.

I made the reservation a month in advance to celebrate my daughter's white coat ceremony, and advised the restaurant of the event. I had read the mixed reviews about the service, so was a little concerned. Our experience was wonderful. The wait staff was helpful and attentive. The food was very good. At the end, they came out with a second dessert for my daughter with "congratulations" written on the plate in chocolate. What a nice touch for a very special occasion! She lives within a couple of blocks. We will be back.
