A word from Catherine Lombardi
Catherine Lombardi was the grandmother of owner Mark Pascal. Pascal, part owner of Stage Left Restaurant, brings his signature obsession with quality local ingredients to the cuisine of his youth. Catherine Lombardi's family came to Brooklyn from Naples. Her cooking was Neapolitan-based and heavily Brooklyn-influenced. It brought her whole extended family together every Sunday. Come taste why.

Cited Best New Restaurant and Best Italian Restaurant by NJ Monthly Readers’ Choice Poll, the red sauce is largely made from tomatoes the restaurant staff picks locally. To-order mozzarella, pressed eggplant rollatini, great pasta and a veal chop to die for are highlights.

Hand-made fresh juice cocktails are featured at the cocktail bar overlooking revitalized downtown New Brunswick. 21 new windows overlook downtown, offering a dramatic bird's-eye-view of The New Brunswick Theater District. It is a crown jewel in New Brunswick's thriving redevelopment.

We had a table at the window with a fantastic view. The service was impeccable. The food was so-so. This was our second time there, the food was much better the first time. My ravioli tasted bland, very tough and dry. The meal my husband ordered was smothered in a mixture of tomatoes, onions and I think mushrooms, but it looked and tasted like a hot mess. The gentleman who may have been one of the owners came & took our plates away and was rather sarcastic, he probably was just trying to be funny but it missed. The noise level was unbearable when we first arrived, but did go down a few notches when people left for the theatre. I didn't feel the food was worth the price.

Let me start by saying this was the third time I dined at CL. It is usually a wonderful romantic special ocaison restaurat with great food and meticulous service. That's why I went there for my girlfriend's birthday. Due to there high demand, we were seated in the Wine Cellar room. It was very cold, and told that it was required for the propper storage of wine. It was not good for humans. Our waiter graciously offered my date a big woolen shawl. This was kind, but transformed her carefully choose elegant dress into a grandmom look. Whoops, I shouldn't have told her that. At any rate, I would recommend CL, but when you make the reservation, be sure it's in the main dining room. I would not accept a reservation for the wine cellar.

Best dinner I've had in a long time. My girlfriend and I arrived and were promptly seated, and right away our server asked us if we wanted champagne to start. The rest of the night we got our orders in similar quick fashion. The wine list was expansive, the environment's ambience was amazing, and prices were high, but that's to be expected (spent $160 total, $30 for each entree, $15 for each glass of champagne and $13 for each glass of wine, then a 25% tip but that's just because I was very happy with the service). Guys looking to treat their girl, look no further!

Had a business dinner here. Asked for a quiet table and they were very accommodating. Service was very attentive without being pushy given that the business discussions required about 2 1/2 hours. Wine list is outstanding and the sauvignon blanc I selected was excellent and reasonably priced. Special crab and lobster raviolis were just as described and delicious.

You guys and gals never disappoint. My wife and I have been here a few times, first time for our friends. They enjoyed it as much as ours. Service is always top notch, without being overbearing. Waiter even volunteered to have the bartender make "old time" drinks not on the menu when he overheard my friend speaking about them. We'll be back soon.

I made the reservation a month in advance to celebrate my daughter's white coat ceremony, and advised the restaurant of the event. I had read the mixed reviews about the service, so was a little concerned. Our experience was wonderful. The wait staff was helpful and attentive. The food was very good. At the end, they came out with a second dessert for my daughter with "congratulations" written on the plate in chocolate. What a nice touch for a very special occasion! She lives within a couple of blocks. We will be back.

We started with the very garlic bread, which was a generous portion and true to its name and incredibly delicious. Though garlicky it did not have a lingering garlic aftertaste, which we all appreciated. The stuffed calamari with red sauce was really flavorful. Luckily there was some extra garlic bread to lap up the sauce. For dinner the lasagne in meat gravy was great tasting, but the scallops were salty and not the freshest. Yet the accompanying broccoli rabe was well prepared and quite good. We ended the meal with the cannoli special, which was heavenly. In fact, it was one of the best cannolis we have ever encountered.

We had dinner on July 19 2014. Food was very good (especially the appetizers get the very-garlic bread OMG), atmosphere was kind of a retro vibe which was cool. Service seemed to be a little uneven at times (some things came fast, others a little slow) but that would not deter us from returning. A great place to dine particularly if you're going to see a show at State Theatre or George Street Playhouse! Highly recommend!

We arrived at the bar and were greeted by the most friendliest, knowledgeable staff ever! They were all truly delightful. Our party was seated promptly. Our server had a "I'm better than you " attitude. She was, however, courteous, but didn't smile and didn't appear she wanted to attend to us. She was very knowledgeable about: the food, the region of truffle and wine etc... other than that she wasn't anything special. The other wait staff was very accomodating and pleasant. Our food was bland and lukewarm at best. My mom did enjoy her lasagna which was hot !My shrimp was over cooked, pasta tasteless other than the salt. The staff did ask how are meals were, but honestly it was too late to get into things. We didn't order dessert and left.

Friend and I went for dinner during Restaurant Week. Not only was the food wonderful but what a bargain. Three courses for $35 which allowed us to splurge on fancy drinks. The lobster bisque was fantastic- one of the best I have had. It was a perfect size portion and flavorful without being overly rich. The eggplant and spinach was delicious. Finally the zabaglione with fresh berries was the perfect way to end the meal.

Very nice decor and great atmosphere. Service was disorganized, very uneven, yet attentive and apologetic. Appetizers were solid. The salad course arrived and we realized after the server walked away that our salads were missing most of their ingredients. There was a 15 minute delay till the replacement salads arrived. The replacement salads were correct and delicious. When our entrees arrived they were lukewarm at best and seemed like they had been sitting for awhile. They would have been much better served fresh and hot. We did not send them back since we did not want another long delay. Desserts were excellent and the highlight of the meal. Not sure if the mis-steps were because of being midweek or if staff is new and inexperienced.

Catherine Lombardi's rivals many of the best restaurants in Manhattan, London, or LA. Our evening was a family get together, and it was relaxing and not rushed, the food was superb, and the service formal and friendly. This is a very expensive restaurant and only we dine there on special occasions (party of four with a reasonable wine will exceed $100 PP) but it is well worth it. Don't miss the antipasto selections (we enjoyed six small plates, and especially liked white anchovies and house made Capanato). Pasta dishes included crab/lobster stuffed ravioli, wild boar ravioli, and pappardelle with black truffles. Their pasta is house made and has the perfect chew. A not to miss is the veal porterhouse which is always is outstanding.

We have eaten at Catherine Lombardi's before, and always found the food delicious if pricey. We took our teenage son to dinner as a treat before seeing a show. The restaurant was very busy, but there seemed to be plenty of staff wandering around. That said, we were seated next to the kitchen entrance (even though other tables were available) and then pretty much forgotten, except, on occasion, by the manager who seemed to take pity on us. Frankly, we very much felt like second class citizens because we weren't regulars... As for the food, it was fine, although my eggplant parmigiana had clearly sat waiting for my son's dish (seafood di viala), which was steaming hot. Drinks were also OK - my cosmo had also sat around.

This was our third time at Cathrine Lombardi's and it is always constantly good. The pasta's are like grandma used to make and the appetizers are to die for. Our only concern was that the noise level in the restaurant was a bit on the high side but beyond that, everything was superb. It is a great place to dine before catching a show at the New Jersey State Theatre. If you have leftovers, they will even hold them until after the show when you can pick them up and stop in for some dessert or a nightcap. A great concept! We will be back!

We have gone to Lombardi's a lot. The food is very good, when they have it available. They seem to run out of things quickly. We got there at 7:30 and one special was gone and another needed substitutions. This happens every time we go there. The other issue is the noise level. The acoustics are VERY bad. It is hard to have a conversation.

The dinner was wonderful, but the service was very slow. We told them we were going to an 8:00 PM show 2 doors down. We arrived @ 6:00 PM and walked out @ 7:55 PM. The other problem, 2 for 2 the desserts were not what was listed. The taste was ok, but that's not what we ordered. A rum crème brulee, that had no rum flavor. A chocolate hazelnut bread pudding, no chocolate or hazelnuts ( told by the waitress big chocolate bits & great rum flavor). We didn't eat them, alerted the waitress and nothing was done for us. I think when you have just spent over $100 on a meal, they should have deducted the desserts.

The restaurant has a lot going for it EXCEPT the food! Nice atmosphere, good little bar overlooking downtown New Brunswick, decent ambiance for dining. But the food is less then average and quite expensive. Our meals were overcooked (pasta and seafood). I'll only go there for a drink in the future and dine elsewhere. Too bad they don't even notice how lousy the food is and how it will be their undoing.
