This was a fine dining experience. The ambience is delightful on a beautiful campus. The food as is to be expected is the latest and exquisitely prepared. The service was the only thing that was not at the very top of the list. Our waiter was very nice and clearly learning the front of the house. He lacked the "polish" of a 20 year veteran, something that cannot be held against him as he seemed to be barely that old. This did not detract from the meal at all. It may have added to it as our expectations were based on this being a school.

Superlative food. Service was friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. Ambience was comfortable and just right in terms of space. The one reservation I had was the noise level was somewhat more than ideal. overall, our experience was exceptional as it should be for a trip to such a distinguished institution.

The restaurant ambiance and service was wonderful. Campus is beautiful and if you are going to FDR's Library the restaurant is wonderfully located. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with an undercooked Shrimp which the kitchen took back and offered another entrée which I declined and took it off the bill. I would not let that describe the meal because everything else was wonderful.

1st visit. Had fall off the bone ribs. Outstanding!!! Had the pizza for an appetizer-not a fan of thin crust pizza but this was fluffy and airy. So good! My wife had the sausage and bacon ravioli and loved it. The service was top notch!!!

At times the waiter was not as informative as he could have been about the items on the menu. For example, he told me the shrimp in the risotto was not spicy (even though it said spicy on the menu). After he checked with the chef, he told me that there was jalapeno and red pepper flakes in the dish. That to me is spicy!! Had I relied on his statement, I would have been very disappointed in the dish. I also asked him about the veal stew which he said was spicy but he could not name the spices. I ended up ordering the lamb chops which were delicious. Chocolate Budino dessert was outstanding.

or being a showcase of such an illustrious institution, the Caterina de Medici restaurant was surprisingly unexceptional. We had a pleasant lunch and enjoyed the ambiance but were struck by several omissions. The wait staff were not well informed about either the menu or the decor, the opera music which had been playing in the background during a previous visit was missing, and at least one pasta dish was rather uninspired (the green beans, potatoes and pasta in pesto).

Lovely place to dine. The students served the meal immaculately and remembered our every whim. We had the prosciutto (beautifully sweet) and risotto for starters and the veal and lamb were lo delicious for the entrees. The cheesecake was the best I have ever tasted in NY!

I brought my grandson to the CIA for dinner the night before his move in to the Freshman Dorm at Vassar. It was a special evening for us, and I thought this would be a very special place to take him. Our waiter Austin was nice, but he did not pay much attention to us, there were several times that I tried to get his attention, but his back was to us, as he talked to the bartender for quite some time. The appetizers were delicious, and my grandson was very happy with his steak, but my sea bass lacked flavor, and the skin did not come off very easily, so it was a bit disappointing. For dessert we had the tiramisu (delicious), and the peach tart; the tart was dry and didn't seem very fresh, but it was edible.

We went hoping for a great meal prepared by the future chefs of tomorrow's great restaurants. Well, they need more training. Our meal was OK, but for the money I expected a better meal. Appetizer had too much olive oil with overpowering flavor and curls of cucumber strips that hit the nose and chin when trying to eat them. Lamb was dry. Overall, disappointing compared to what I expected. Apple Pie bakery was an excellent lunch and the culinary highlight of the day.

we had a great experience until the waiter never brought us a glass of wine my husband ordered but charged us for it. when we informed us of this he basically insinuated that we had lied until we asked to see a manager then he went back to the bar where the bar tender informed him he never picked it up. If that had been my establishment the patron would have received the wine free and the waiter would have apologized, which he did,but if these people want jobs in the 4 star industry, remember.... the customer is always right.

It was a very nice lunch with our two special friends. The food was great, however the menu lacks some pasta dishes which would have been nice, since it is an Italian tradition. This will not stop us from coming back. Loved the veal stew, and the ribs. Looking forward to our next visit.

I feel bad leaving a bad review but its true this experience wasn't good and the food was terrible. My fish wasn't seasoned or cooked :/- nothing was really warm either or seasoned for that matter... the service wasn't good either, she should had done more to explain the menu and the experience on dining there...I ordered an app and didn't get it, I wanted a coffee and she told me to wait until everyone ordered dessert so she came back 15 minutes to take everyones dessert order then I ordered my coffee again and waited 5-7 minutes.. so I was annoyed at that for sure..the dinner was long and costly.. wouldn't recommend it.. you could go to Ruth's Chris for the same amount of money.. I really wanted to like it but no ill never go back..

Understanding this is a cooking school - the students are not perfect yet, but it is a great experience - wonderful campus to visit with tours available, you must review the menu before you go - menu items are limited and gourmet, not joe average, so they will not appeal to everyone.......... but well done.....

We enjoyed our whole evening at your restaurant...From Soup to Nuts as the Italian expression goes...The Fish entrees were excellent, and I very much enjoyed my basil/cherry tomato pasta dish! We ordered all of the desserts & shared... they were all delicious!!! And it was nice to have a few Italian cookies to try...a nice touch! I was impressed that even my coffee cup had been warmed, and the coffee delicious! My Brother & his wife & daughter are use to fine dining...And they were completely impressed & satisfied!

It is such a treat to dine at the CIA restaurants. Every food I tasted has such a "kicked up" flavor. I don't mean extra spicy or exaggerated flavors....rather, the flavors are clearly the best that a food can offer and the chefs can take simple foods over the top. Tomatoes taste like one imagines....olive oils are superb; vinegar and oil combinations are perfectly balanced; entrees are appropriately delicate or strong in flavor; the plate always looks pretty as a picture; each restaurant has a personality that seems to capture its name (Italian, French, American). The waitstaff is worth the visit in itself....charming, interesting, international personalities with clear food experience to help guide ordering.

Our dinner was very good, but the price I think was a little high. For the 6 of us it cost over 400 dollars. We had 3 appetizers, main meal, 6 desserts, 2 bottles of wine $32 each,2 cups of coffee, and one Irish coffee, 3 drinks. I would think the prices would be lower since these are students learning and this is their class.I think you would get more diners if the prices were more reasonable, especially in this economy. Also a 17% tip is automatically added which I think is too high since the students only benefit from it if they graduate and were lucky enough to get financial aid.

The food was good, however our waiter did not describe any of the dishes on the menu and didn't really know how the meals were prepared. Several times he had to go back to the kitchen to find out how the food was being prepared. The waiter at the table next to us described to his guests the different menu choices and how things worked, we had to coax the answers from our waiter. I believe there was some mix-ups with the wait staff, as the lead waiter had to pour more water for us and was more attentive then our assigned waiter.

My husband and I had a wonderful time the other night while seated at the Honeymoon Table, even though we have been together for over 30 years! The food, service and attentiveness by all of the soon to be curators of the culinary world was magnificent. I had the perfectly prepared strip steak and my husband a lamb dish. Sorbet and Tiramasu topped it off! It was also very enjoyable talking to the students about the school, and their hopes for the future. It was a great evening out, and will be well remembered! This is a "must" for anyone living or visiting the Poughkeepsie area!
