We took our good friends out to celabrate their 50th wedding anniversary. It couldn't have been better. The food was excellent, we found a a wonderful wine from their winelist that complemented the food. Service was good and we had plenty of time to talk. All in all a great restaurant.

Our dining experience was as close to perfect for our purposes as one could ever imagine. We were seated promptly and there was coat check - which most Northern restaurants forget to take care of anymore. (Not so in Canada, btw) No one can fully enjoy a meal when your top coat is hanging over your chair because there is no place for it - and even when there is a hanging spot, no one wants to leave it unattended. The server was more than congenial. He took the time to answer any questions thoroughly, and had studied the menu, knowing which items were sold out for that evening. Our water glasses were kept full all evening. The wine was offered in a new way which allowed us to have a by "by the glass" offering of any of the wines on their list. This was great because my husband and I have vastly different taste in wine. Each course was served at the ideal time. Our plates were cleared promptly but never too soon as to be intrusive. Our server had great pacing. His recommendations added to our enjoyment, as he knew the right questions to ask in order to put together a meal suitable to our individual palettes. The atmosphere was romantic, but not intimate, dark or smoky. We just loved the entire night ad would go back again at the earliest opportunity.

This was my second time eating at the culinary institute and first time at this restaurant. Every bite was delicious. It's always a pleasure to go to a restaurant and see things on a menu that you will not find on most menus. I am still thinking about the delicious chestnut parpadelle pasta with broccoli and ricotta and my husband enjoyed the Quail and tiramisu. You have to book weeks in advance but it's worth the wait especially during hudson valley restaurant week. The students also take pride in making your dining experience memorable.

Menu choices were limited to the unusual and did not include the many delicious Italian food possibilities. The menu listed on the website was not the menu that we selected from. The radicchio salad was awful; the ingredients listedon the menu (grapes and walnuts) were limited to one or two each. The risotto was like soup and lacked flavor. The tiramisu was laden with bitter cocoa. We have been to many fine Italian restaurants so have a lot to compare this to. Our two hour drive was not worth the effort.

Lunch was at Caterina deMedici- a treat for my visiting relatives from Arizona. The setting is lovely, the food absolutely delicious. The only thing that somewhat marred the meal was the lack of service. It was clear that this was not the students vocation-waiting tables. One example - my guest ordered iced tea which he finally received but no sweetener which was asked for and brought but no spoon. This is so unusual at the CIA. The student was personable but sometimes it's the little things. Of course, I will return. Sometimes people have bad days. Perhaps this was his.

I have eaten at the American CIA restaurant and was looking forward to trying the Italian one. The menu is not that Italian, or even that creative. The gnocchi were doughy as if not even cooked. The monkish was good but lacking in unique flavor or seasoning. The highlight was the wine selection. One of the supervisors gave excellent information about the dessert wines. The server seemed anxious and didn't seem to enjoy dealing with the public.

The food was very disappointing! Bland, not savory at all. even the cappuccino was too strong ! The tiramisu and the creamed spinach were the highlights for me. the quail was greasy. polenta tasteless. the pork was plain, the puree nondescript. All in all a very disappointing visit to CIA. I have eaten at the American Bounty and Bocuese and enjoyed them but Caterina e Medici was not even close!

Compared to our other dining experiences at CIA restaurants, this time was somewhat of a disappointment. The Caterina de Medici is a bright, open, lovely setting. Everything on the menu sounded so wonderful it was hard to choose what to order. Both of the appetizers we had were good. Unfortunately, my husband's entrée (strip steak) was disappointing since the meat was tough and not very flavorful. Dessert, however, was outstanding. The pear tart and the chocolate lava cake were both memorable. Would definitely go again to this lovely restaurant.

We have had fantastic meals and not so good meals at the Culinary Restaurants. Unfortunately, this was one of those not so good meal experiences. The host was excellent when seating us but the waitress left a lot to be desired. The food presentation was good but overcooked the entrees. We had to ask multiple times for beverages and the service staff was not very astute to the frustrations from our table as well as other diners. Definitely not one of the better examples of the restaurant education the students are receiving at the school.

Sat for about 20 minutes before someone came to our table to offer us water. After she poured the water, we quickly gave the young woman our drink and dinner choices while we had the chance. Food was terrific, but when we asked our waitress what was in the spinach making it taste so yummy, she didn't know and needed to go back to the kitchen to ask the chef. There aren't that many items on the menu - I think the servers should know what they're serving. Disappointed that we were never asked if we were happy with our food and never asked if we wanted a second drink.

I think the Caterina is the C.I.A.'s best restaurant. It's a great overall dining experience, but more importantly we diners are helping train the future chefs of this country. It's wonderful to see the school "in action" and I think they roll out some great cuisine in the process.

Definitely not an everyday place to eat but it is great for special occasions or for treating yourself. We came during our honeymoon and food was spot on. We both had the pork which came with sweet potato mash and grilled radicchio and it was one of the best dinners I've had. My appetite isn't huge and I normally take some portion of my dinner home but that night my plate was left clean. Sweet potato was excellent and everything was cooked to perfection. We had the Tiramisu for dessert and he had a cappuccino and I had the camomile lavender tea. Tiramisu was outstanding and so was my tea which I love the fact that they give you an entire pot of it (gives 3-4 cups). Service was impeccable and everyone is so friendly. We'll be back for sure.

Having had amazing meals at the CIA in Calif, I had high expectations that were not met. All of the people we encountered there, from the maître d' to the waiter to the server, were either indifferent or incompetent. No smiles here. The portions were small; when they brought the appetizers- salad and gnocchi- my son and I started laughing. The salad was in a tiny bowl, a few pieces of lettuce with balsamic vinegar poured over it. The gnocchi were delicious, all 3 of them. The venison was very good; the fish tough and hard to cut. Good desert and good cappuccino. $126 for the two of us, and I was hungry afterwards so I went and got a big piece of pizza for $3.

We ate at the Caterina de Medici in October. The setting was great but the service was awful. I think that their quality of both food and service must depend on how far along the students are in that semester. Our waitress had that 'deer in the headlights' look. She broke the cork trying to open the wine, gave us an incorrect description of the dishes, and never smiled once. However, the food was good. Three out of four diners had good things to say but one had fish which was way under cooked. The oxtail stew was excellent. Overall an interesting experience and I would go back when the current class had a bit more training.

The food was okay, lots of flavor but nothing to rave about and I probably won't remember what I ate a couple weeks from now. It was just standard, run-of-the-mill Italian food. Though the menu options were more limited than I am used to. It's a good place for students to learn and our server seemed a bit nervous - probably because she is new at this. She was sweet though, and I hope she gains more confidence because she has potential. I can see why older people would enjoy coming here, the food is full of flavor and it's not hard on the wallet. It appears as though you are eating somewhere really nice and fancy. Unfortunately for me, that doesn't factor in my equation for a truly great meal on the palate.

It is always a pleasure to visit the CIA restaurants. My personal dinner was not as good as I am used to. The soup - and Italian bean - was way to thick, almost a sauce, the beans were few and the kale - or whatever green it was - overwhelmed the soup. We live nearby and are used to there being some mistakes, since we know the young people are learning, but there was a big problem on Wednesday when between the soup and the main course, there must have been close to a half hour. We were hungry, and sometimes we didn't even see our server. He himself was entirely sweet. It seems that in the change of semesters the Medici is very shorted staffed. Well....maybe that isn't a good idea...
