We enjoyed the leisurely pace and the coziness of the restaurant. The ambiance and décor was inviting and reminiscent of Italy, and old world tradition. The food was superior, the wine list extensive, the service friendly, enthusiastic, and attentive without being overbearing. One suggestion on the roasted chicken dish; we prefer "Red Peppers" to green. This makes a much tastier dish. The pork chops, sea food, and desserts were excellent. We will bring more friends to the restaurant as time permits.

I expected something special but the food was bland and unseasoned. The fish was not sauced and the pistachio couscous had zero taste. Where are the nuts?? The coffee was lukewarm and although we were a late seating for lunch, someone should have made a new pot. I know the students are the waiters but our server was so shaky that we had to try not to overwhelm him with a question. Never got three water glasses to the table and he didn't know whether we could sub salmon for the market fish because we liked the side dishes better. Did a nice job decorating the plate for delivery of a birthday dessert.

It's interesting to eat here. The room we were seated in was comfortable but a little noisy. The ravioli salad was outstanding and my chicken in a red Italian wine sauce was prepared well. My wife's steak was served overdone, but the staff reacted well and remedied this soon after she complained. The students learning here are in various stages of their education, and I was fascinated watching how they handled the issues and questions that came up. Overall, a very pleasant experience

our experience was outstanding and we will recommend this to all our friends and family. Jason ,our waiter was such a joy to be around he was so real and very informative and very attentive. He was a little nervous but that is to be expected. There was a sense of pressure on the students in the air but they have a lot to learn and they wanted to make a good impression and we gave them all A+. The school was beautiful and should be commended too for providing an opportunity for the future chefs nothing but the best chance to learn from the best. We were also impressed that Jason remembered to write happy birthday on my husbands dessert dish. Thank you all!! Bravo!!

The reception is always friendly and Welcoming. Would like to see fresh flowers return to all CIA restaurants. This may of been an off day as this is my 10 visit to Caterina de Medici. Had to ask for silverware, wine list, and food went to the wrong guests. Not a big deal,as I'm the easiest to please. Wasn't a sense of ownership in the beginning ,but got better as the meal progressed . Mr Flavia had a new Matri'd under his wing, and I hope in time he'll be all over everything as he has been.

This is the CIA's Italian restaurant and the students turn in a good performance with classics like the pasta with squid ink that my husband had. It was cooked perfectly. His seafood appetizer was beautifully displayed. I ordered grilled swordfish but it was just seared. I wish someone had asked whether I wanted it better done than that. The Swiss chard sauteed in olive oil was too highly peppered--it was more like a spicy Chinese dish than any I'd ever had in Italy. Service here tends to be a bit slow--it took a while to get water and bread, but after that everything proceeded well. Eating here is fun because you usually get a chance to chat with the servers and find out a bit about their ambitions in the culinary world.

My husband & I are foodies! We were expecting awesome. It was good but not exceptional. We had cured meats that were just ok. Squid ink pasta with sautéed shrimp that was just ok. The Sautéed escarole was mediocre. But both our Italian sea bass & swordfish were extremely delicious. The Warm chocolate cake & cookies were delicious. Nate our server was excellent even if he was a tad shy.

The CIA restaurants came highly recommended. Caterina de Medici was our third choice but we couldn't get a timely reservation at the other two. We were still excited about getting in to one of them for our first experience at CIA. Not sure the experience met our expectations. The service was timid but friendly. The food was notable especially the watermelon salad and the ravioli, both offered as first course. Preparation of the main course meat dishes were also excellent. My cocktail was a "fizzle" but just trying something new. You can't win them all.

Adding 17% tip to the bill and then not giving it to the servers, I felt taken advantage of. If you want to increase the already high prices do it, don't disguise it as a tip. Tips stands for "to insure prompt service" not we want to take you for more money. Overall we really enjoyed the experience and would come again.

This was a fine dining experience. The ambience is delightful on a beautiful campus. The food as is to be expected is the latest and exquisitely prepared. The service was the only thing that was not at the very top of the list. Our waiter was very nice and clearly learning the front of the house. He lacked the "polish" of a 20 year veteran, something that cannot be held against him as he seemed to be barely that old. This did not detract from the meal at all. It may have added to it as our expectations were based on this being a school.

The restaurant ambiance and service was wonderful. Campus is beautiful and if you are going to FDR's Library the restaurant is wonderfully located. Unfortunately I had a bad experience with an undercooked Shrimp which the kitchen took back and offered another entrée which I declined and took it off the bill. I would not let that describe the meal because everything else was wonderful.

Food and wine recommendations from our graduating student waiter were excellent. Food timing and presentation was delightful. A nice, upscale dining experience on a beautiful campus. At times the waiter was not as informative as he could have been about the items on the menu. For example, he told me the shrimp in the risotto was not spicy (even though it said spicy on the menu). After he checked with the chef, he told me that there was jalapeno and red pepper flakes in the dish. That to me is spicy!! Had I relied on his statement, I would have been very disappointed in the dish. I also asked him about the veal stew which he said was spicy but he could not name the spices. I ended up ordering the lamb chops which were delicious. Chocolate Budino dessert was outstanding.

or being a showcase of such an illustrious institution, the Caterina de Medici restaurant was surprisingly unexceptional. We had a pleasant lunch and enjoyed the ambiance but were struck by several omissions. The wait staff were not well informed about either the menu or the decor, the opera music which had been playing in the background during a previous visit was missing, and at least one pasta dish was rather uninspired (the green beans, potatoes and pasta in pesto).

I brought my grandson to the CIA for dinner the night before his move in to the Freshman Dorm at Vassar. It was a special evening for us, and I thought this would be a very special place to take him. Our waiter Austin was nice, but he did not pay much attention to us, there were several times that I tried to get his attention, but his back was to us, as he talked to the bartender for quite some time. The appetizers were delicious, and my grandson was very happy with his steak, but my sea bass lacked flavor, and the skin did not come off very easily, so it was a bit disappointing. For dessert we had the tiramisu (delicious), and the peach tart; the tart was dry and didn't seem very fresh, but it was edible.

We went hoping for a great meal prepared by the future chefs of tomorrow's great restaurants. Well, they need more training. Our meal was OK, but for the money I expected a better meal. Appetizer had too much olive oil with overpowering flavor and curls of cucumber strips that hit the nose and chin when trying to eat them. Lamb was dry. Overall, disappointing compared to what I expected. Apple Pie bakery was an excellent lunch and the culinary highlight of the day.

we had a great experience until the waiter never brought us a glass of wine my husband ordered but charged us for it. when we informed us of this he basically insinuated that we had lied until we asked to see a manager then he went back to the bar where the bar tender informed him he never picked it up. If that had been my establishment the patron would have received the wine free and the waiter would have apologized, which he did,but if these people want jobs in the 4 star industry, remember.... the customer is always right.

I feel bad leaving a bad review but its true this experience wasn't good and the food was terrible. My fish wasn't seasoned or cooked :/- nothing was really warm either or seasoned for that matter... the service wasn't good either, she should had done more to explain the menu and the experience on dining there...I ordered an app and didn't get it, I wanted a coffee and she told me to wait until everyone ordered dessert so she came back 15 minutes to take everyones dessert order then I ordered my coffee again and waited 5-7 minutes.. so I was annoyed at that for sure..the dinner was long and costly.. wouldn't recommend it.. you could go to Ruth's Chris for the same amount of money.. I really wanted to like it but no ill never go back..
