  • "We visited this restaurant to celebrate my son's HS graduation. We were seated a round table in a corner which was great for our party of six. The service was excellent and the wait staff very knowledgeable regarding the menu. Everyone enjoyed their dishes except for the steak which was undercooked and a little tough (a bit of a disappointment but still very good). The atmosphere is very nice. This was my second visit to this restaurant and I would definitely return again and recommend to others."

  • "After attending my daughter's graduation at CIA earlier in the day we thought we would have lunch at Caterina de Medici to celebrate. We were offered an incredible array of appetizers and desserts at the reception following graduation so dining so soon afterwards wasn't the best idea. Although it was Day 1 for the students attending us, they served us well. The food was excellent as has been in the past, our appetites weren't ravenous enough to fully appreciate the experience. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will return to dine again."

  • "This was our first time at CIA and we will certainly be coming back. Food was great, students working the floor, really trying hard, made it even better. Management stopped by to chat and bring us more bread. Loved that our server gave us info on the school and his classes. We headed over to Apple Pie for dessert which was awesome!"

  • "A very beautiful dining experience we had from the hostess to the servers in all areas of table service. Each was polite, professional and helpful in explaining menu item questions without hesitation. The only issue I would raise was the casualness of the dress of the guests. To me, the evening was a special event and I was looking forward to an elegant evening at the CIA. I was a bit disappointed but perhaps my expectations were higher with regard to what guests would wear. I did go back and re-read the restaurant description and it clearly states no dress code.....but to see people in shorts, flip flops, and jeans was not quite was I was expecting. Casual attire is just my personal bug-a-boo."

  • "3rd time to the CIA, first 2 were exceptional. The food was good and may have been better if waiter knew what was in the dishes we ordered. He had no knowledge of the way the food was being prepared, and even had trouble opening the wine. He was very unattentive. This was a big surprise, considering it was the CAI. Other waiters seemed attentive, we had one that didn't seem to be interested in being there."

  • "We absolutely loved our first visit to Caterina de Medici. Everything was outstanding! We are already planning our next visit to CIA to try another restaurant."

  • "We have visited this restaurant many times over the years and have always been very pleased with the food and service. We plan to return again soon even though it is a bit far. Kudos to the CIA for their unique approach to culinary education and excellence."

  • "WAS OUTSTANDING, ESPECIALLY OUR WAITER NAMED JUSTIN. HE MADE MY HUSBANDS BIRTHDAY DINNER A GREAT TIME FOR US BOTH. MY HUSBAND IS A MASTER CHEF AND HE WAS VERY VERY HAPPY WITH THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE AS WELL AS ALL WHO WERE THERE BUT ESPECIALLTY JUSTIN WERE VERY PROFESIONAL BUT WARM AND INVITING TO THE CIA. WE WILL BE BACK BUT WE WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER RESTARANT ON THE CIA GROUNDS IN SEPTEMBER. THANK YOU AND JUSTIN FOR MAKING OUR EVENING ONE TO REMEBER. REVEREND DR. BETTY JEAN SMITH ALLEYNE, WE WERE MARRIED FIVE DAYS BEFORE WE CAME TO THE CIA."

  • "It was as good as we'd hoped it would be (yes, my expectations were high for the CIA)! Wonderful room, great service, excellent food. Very knowledgeable waitress, as you'd expect, and very friendly and efficient."

  • "The server was not very focused on our orders in the beginning. It wasn't until the instructor of the classroom came to our table and started with his extensive knowledge of the Italian wine list that the meal became fun and non stressed. After that point, the food, service and our experience at the Caterina de Medici room was what we had hoped it would be. The only thing I would bring to your attention was whoever made the mixed drinks needs to get it right. As an example, my friend ordered a dry martini in a chilled glass, and the drinks was not mixed well and served in a regular martini glass without being chilled. The other thing was we had to wait an incredibly long time to get our drinks."

  • " The CIA was the place 4 cousins ( we brought our husbands) decided to meet to have a great meal together instead of cooking ourselves. Well, we weren't disappointed. We sampled each others food and determined the winner of each course. For us the seafood salad was a winner along with the carpaccio. Gnocchi and risotti tied in the first course with thier oustanding flavor. Now the main course entries were hard because we each loved the type of meat we got, the lamb was flavorful as well as the rabbit, the beef was tender and juicy as well and the eggplant ravioli was excellent with its sauce. The dessert, and wine just made it better. Our server Jake, made sure we all enjoyed our visit. We are sure to return."

  • "The food and service was phenominal! Mr. G. and his staff paid special attention to the customers, we never had to ask for anything and never felt rushed. The front of the house and the back of the house compliment one another to produce great food and service. They have such a passion for what they do which really shows! More important than good food is good service. It all starts with the front of the house!"

  • "After a great day visiting Hyde Park Historic homes and a boat trip on the Hudson we had a wonderful end to the day dining at the CIA. Great ambiance made it feel like we were in a villa in Italy. Loved the energy of the students/waiters and staff. The Risotto was wonderful as was the Parma with mozzarella appetizer: that melted in your mouth. We had an early reservation which was nice because the restaurant was not that full. We walked the campus a bit before departing and it is a stunning place. Wish we lived closer so we could go there more frequently."

  • "Eating at the CIA is always a special experience, but when the waiter (student) spills a glass of wine on my partner's dess I do think the maitre d' (teacher) should be a little more gracious and discount some from the bill."

  • "i understand that the servers are also students there to learn cooking skills but when it came to serving the food they were kind of clueless. an order never got placed; i ordered a bottle of wine and was instead served two glasses of wine; when i pointed that out they returned 5 min later to remove the two glasses we had already started drinking and didn't bring the full bottle originally ordered for another 10 min. kind of tacky."

  • "We enjoyed the occasion, although we realize that the service staff and the chefs have much to learn. We believe it's important to support people who are attempting to make their way in this difficult and highly competitive calling. Service was anxious but attentive. Food was fine but not outstanding."

  • " The food was simply delicious AND attractively presented but what really made the event was the staff. These young people are friendly and so eager to please. We enjoyed engaging in brief conversations with those who waited on our table to find out about their experiences as students at CIA. Our waiter, Anthony, was especially personable and willing to engage in brief conversations about the institute and his future plans. We also found the physical resturant space of Caterina de Medici to be very professionally done with wonderful Italian decor. Nothing about or experience from the staff to the food to the physical space would indicate that this was a "training" facility. We can only HIGHLY recommend this dining experience!"

  • "Nice dinner. presentation lovely! The Risotto was especially good as well as the fish of the day. Homemade gelato was a great way to end the meal. My husband prefers larger portions so he ordered 4 courses. He was full when we were done Our server was terrific, friendly and attentive!"

  • "Service was great with two exceptions. Asked for anything gluten-free-not much. Regular bread brought to table-told waiter that we eat gluten-free. Five minutes later a second server came with another regular bread basket. Asked him if there was any alternative; he said "I'll see what I can do" and we never saw him again! Otherwise service was great and our waiter tried very hard. My arugula salad consisted of four forkfuls of some greens and three sliced tomatoes-I could whip up a better salad in five minutes in my kitchen and I've never taken one cooking class and never baked a single thing in my life. My wife's risotto was north of al dente and difficult to chew. My swordfish came in a square 4x4 inch pastry-like thing-where's the fish"

  • "The food was quite unremarkable and quite bland. Service was attentive and setting was quiet as there was a decent amount of fabric to help absorb sound. Portions were on the small side and the bread, although delicious, was not served warm. I will be frequenting other CIA restaurants to see if they are better"

  • "My wife and I rarely get a chance to go out for a nice meal. Having lunch at Caterina De Medici was very special to us. It was a really great experience. The food was the best. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was really beautiful. It will be our place for a special occassion from now on."

  • "Interesting menu choices, but our entrees did not shine. Lamb chop, veal, and rabbit were all too bland - where are the seasonings? Nettle soup was served too cool, made worse by having to wait for a spoon! Also appalled by the casual dress of many diners. Cutoff shorts and t-shirts detracted from our dining experience. In all, a disappointing meal, especially for the price we paid - $230 for 4 - and we don't drink!"

  • "This restaurant completely run by Culinary Institute of America students is a delight. The students are so serious about their education and chosen career. The god is very good but in 10 years these same kids will be preparing spectacular gastropub fare. We loved the experience! Highly recommend."

  • "I was looking forward to the culinary experience as I had enjoyed the apple pie cafe previously. However my sister and I were not impressed with the flavor of the gnocchi nor veal. We did enjoy the pork dish and pleasant staff. I would reccomend apple pie cafe for it was a great experience and delicious however this restaurant fell too short for us to return or reccomend."

  • "Having had an amazing meal at the American Bounty restaurant, I was a bit disappointed with our dining experience here. First, there was a man wearing shorts and crocs! Really? And here I was paranoid that my nephew bring a jacket to wear to dinner. It turns out that this guy was part of a large senior tour group. Second, some of our food was not that great. Our fusilli app, was under cooked; the pasta was a bit hard in center. And the fish special my husband ordered was surprisingly bland. Everything else we ordered was fantastic. Our server was great; a bit nervous, but that made him even more fun. In full disclosure, the review above was also written on the comment card given with our check."

  • "This restaurant is a great concept - but for me it fell below standard. The prices are middle to high - my gnocchi was poorly presented and not really good - the veal was chewy - desert was good -strawberry mousse - house wine was a bargain. All in all - only fair."
