Diner Reviews
  • "Great seafood, beautiful location. Went back just to sit at the bar which is equally beautiful with great music and lots of space. "

  • "We had a wonderful dinner this past Sat. evening, arriving around 6 PM in order to view the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Our party of three shared 3 terrific appetizers: eel and avocado roll, shrimp and tempurea roll, and grilled Spanish octopus. For our entrees we had the short ribs, rib steak, and lobster with pasta. As were the appetizers, these entrees were beautifully presented and very tasty. The cappacino after dinner was the largest one I have ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "To celebrate Friday we went to Catch - which has rapidly become our favorite restaurant. We got there early, had a nice cocktail at the lobby bar (David is an excellent mixologist!) then had dinner - I tried their Sea Bream special (light and delicious) my wife had the Swordfish and shared the macaroni and truffle side dish (off the charts good). our waitress was very nice and you can't beat the beach view. We love this place!"

  • "Menu is too complicated and way overpriced. A luxury hotel like the Casa del Mar deserves a better restaurant."

  • "Catch has rapidly become one of our favorite restaurants in LA. We decided to bring our friend, a famous writer from Malibu who had never been here. He and his date loved it - the seafood was fresh, the service was very attentive. we'll be back - again!"

  • "We celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at Catch. The menu is impressive, the wine choices stellar, and the food was delightful. Service was personal. We were seated at the window overlooking sunset on the Santa Monica beach -- beautiful evening!"

  • "Though parking can be a hassle on the weekend, the setting, ambience and food make up for any inconvenience!"

  • "We were disappointed with the view from our table and the staff arranged for us to move to a table with an beach/ocean view."

  • "Food was so bad . Foods over cooked . Oyster was spoiled . Smell stink Price are over priced. Small portions for the price . Right After we left your restaurant we had to go to another restaurant to eat again . It's bad experience for my Birthday dinner ."

  • "I hosted a special birthday dinner at Catch (one of my favorite restaurants). Every aspect of the evening was perfect. The room is beautiful, the staff is very competent and friendly, the food was delicious, and the wine list is great and fairly priced. The Vesper martini was a great hit. We we seated at a window table, and the evening was a great success."

  • "I was looking forward to sitting on the Veranda but the tables next to the windows was good. Veranda was under construction no date posted as to availability?..."

  • "have had breakfast before here but wed made this for the lobby brunch. we'd called to reconfirm & then advised lobby was under a remodel but could go to Catch to eat which we did anyway, but disappointed we'd not been advised ahead. Also wed called ahead advising it was a birthday resevation, could have a window table as wed be there early. We were told no problem. On arrival was some new hostess, our reservation and requests were not located, the special table request ignored. The hostess walked us to a side table we turned down. locations cant guarantee table but didnt appear they were aware of it. disappointed also we'd not been called about the no brunch in lobby, not nice since its a pricey."

  • "We are not used to having to find a waiter to refill our coffee cups which we had to do here. They did not come around until after we searched for service. We had to wait 20 minutes for our car on leaving the restaurant. When I did get in the car the seat was way down and the temp was turned way down to COLD. Not happy about that."

  • "All I have to say about their Morro Bay black cod is WOOOOOOW! It was the best fish I've ever had...cooked to the millisecond of perfection. Service was what you would expect from a classy hotel restaurant (aka exceptional and attentive). View of the ferris wheel was great. And the added bonus to the entire night was the fantastic band playing, with a beautiful lead singer that plays a mean trombone. What a night and what a great place to eat and enjoy wonderful music. Can't wait to go back! My ONLY suggestion would be making a tiny bit more room between the tables."

  • "I wasn't too sure about eating at a hotel restaurant but Catch is a really nice find. The hotel is situated right on the ocean and Catch overlooks the beach in Santa Monica, which is a big plus. The only thing I didn't love was that the restaurant is so open to the lobby and bar area. Would have been nicer to feel like you were more in a restaurant. The service was good, if not amazing. Same with the food. Cannot complain about anything... I can however rave about the s'more dessert which I loved. Pretty presentation and YUMMY! Would I go again? Probably not but that's because LA has so many better options to choose from."

  • "Perhaps in the day light - you could really have a view. From our vantage at night we saw the parking lot of the beach. We were not impressed for the food - though we paid dearly. The staff were very amenable and used our names."

  • "Beautiful setting & delicious food. On the pricy side but worth it for a special occasion"

  • "The hotel and the restaurant sit on a perfect site with great views of the ocean and beach. Make sure to ask for a window table. Lunch on the day we were there was very good but the site was quiet, I thinkpartly due to the weather. I would definitely return perhaps for dinner as the food was well prepared and the service was excelllant."

  • "Food tasted good, however the crab salad in lettuce cups was surprising at $18.. 3 tiny lettuce cups with maybe 2 Tbsp of crab salad in each one. It would have been great for an appetizer, but not a main lunch dish. The waiter could have helped with some feed back as to the size, but didn't say a word. In fact service was not that great. We waited for one person to arrive and then after a period of time, we finally had to ask for menus. They were surprised we had not received any. The kale with grilled chicken was good."

  • "I frankly didn't expect to be wowed by my dining experience at Coast. We were in for a surprise. I can only judge the restaurant by its seafood, as that's all we ate, except for a delicious dessert, but what we did have was excellent. We especially enjoyed the chilled seafood sampler. What a feast it was. For entrees we had grilled diver scallops and seared tuna. Both were delicious. Service was very good, though I would have appreciated hearing ecommendations before we ordered rather than after we ate. I appreciated the nice touch of bringing us each a half glass of sparking wine and dessert, on the house, in celebration of a birthday. Best of all we didn't have to drive home after cocktails and a bottle of wine as we stayed at the hotel."

  • "The quality of cooking was average, though I can not say it was not tasty: - the mussels were not almost all viscera; - the scallops were scorched."

  • "There are a few things that bothered me... Firstly, when I made the reservation I specifically said I wanted a table near a window. When the host went to seat us at our table she saw that our seat has already been sat to another couple and she said oh! Well your spot is taken so how about right here? And sat us wherever ad opposed to going back to the other host to fix the issue and maybe find us another spot. The service is slow, the food is mediocre or the money.. I don't mind spending money if the food is incredible ... But it wasn't. My tab was 415.27 and was beyond disspointed at the overall expeirce I received and I regret taking my boyfriend here."

  • "Great sushi and sashimi and seafood dishes. Martinis were excellent. Excellent wine list. Service was great and very accomodating. A safe haven from all of the hustle and bustle of New Years, rose bowl, and BCS bowl crowds."

  • "Catch at Casa Del Mar was perfect for our Christmas meal. We arrived 15 minutes early, but were seated immediately. The hostess gave us a table at a window with a fantastic view overlooking the sandy beach and sailboats on the ocean. Our waiter was very pleasant, knowledgable and attentive. The meal was prix fixe, so there are no specials to discuss. Although the vibe is upscale, it was not stuffy or pretentious. The wait staff wore jeans and collared shirts, no ties. If you're the kind of person that worries about parking, the validated valet came to $8 before the tip. That includes time for our meal and a lengthy stroll on the beach. I look forward to returning to Catch and the lounge on a regular weekend night."

  • "overpriced, bad food and bad service. Christmas dinner with fixed rate and food nothing special"
    Dined on 12/25/2013
  • "We went for Christmas dinner. The service wasn't great, as it seemed that they didn't have enough wait staff. There were people running around in blue jeans. It just didn't seem professional or appropriate for the Christmas dinner. The food was good, but it wasn't hot enough. I had ordered a glass of wine twice, and it never came. I did asked for ice cream, instead of whipped cream, and they did do that. Overall, i would go back next year, hopefully they will have made some of the necessary changes to give them a 5 star rating."

  • "Overpriced! Uninspired appetizers, dry prime rib, overcooked cod, trace vegetable sides (1 or 2 bites total,) lackluster dessert. In the end, the feeling of being ripped off was all that we were left with. Should have gone to Fig..."

  • "I and my four guest went to Christmas Eve Dinner at the Catch. We all had a great experience. Our food was delicious and well prepared - each course. We started in the lounge with a couple of drinks and "tried" to enjoy the sunset. I say tried because half of the lovely lounge area was blocked off for a private party. I was hoping to have the same kind of experience as I did a few weeks earlier with viewing the poetic and majestic sunsets from the lounge through the grand windows. However, it was too full and we had to sit well away from the windows. But we made the best of it and even sneaked into the roped off area before the party showed up. We weren't completely foiled. I want return to enjoy the entrees on the full menu."

  • "Took our office staff to Catch for lunch. The menu is somewhat confusing as it does not specify which dishes are entree size and which are appetizers or small plates. You can sort of guess by the price. Our waiter, Pancho, did a great job taking us through the menu explaining all of the options, answering questions and taking special requests. All of the food was beautifully presented and very tasty. The bread and oil is excellent. We really enjoyed the Maine lobster club sandwich (large portion), Fish special of the day (bass) and the Tuna Nicoise salad."

  • "I took my colleagues here for a thank you lunch. The view was great but that was the only good thing from our meal. It took them a very long time to serve us the bread, a very long time to bring out our orders (we only had 1 hour lunch allowance), and the restaurant wasn't packed at all. What's worse was the menu was misleading. A colleague ordered a crab lettuce cups from the "Seafood" section that was priced at $17, when it came out, it was 3 sorry looking tiny lettuce with a small bite of crab meat in them. It was not enough for him as a meal. There was nowhere on the menu that indicated it was an appetizer or a small plate. He ended up having to order a bowl of soup to tame his hunger, which prolonged our lunch and made us late."

  • "This is a drop dead gorgeous hotel and you feel it just about the moment you walk up one of the double staircases. Fireplaces going, piano bar, and one of the very best ocean dining views in all of Santa Monica, very food food and wine list. Attracts a slightly older more sophisticated crowd. I dined with friends there this Thanksgiving and it was really cozy and wonderful. Great spot for a special occasion. Is recommend going a bit early and having a drink at the bar first just to take or all in. Bring your credit card this is not an inexpensive dining experience"

  • "Each visit to Catch seems better than the one before. It is rapidly becoming our fave spot in all of greater LA. Normally a diner must choose between quality food and service or a great view. Catch provides all three. The menu is not overly elaborate, and each item is beautifully prepared and presented. Our server was very knowledgeable about Catch's wine list, and his suggestions were spot on. The lobby bar was full of happy guests enjoying a great jazz combo. We'll be back!"

  • "Good cocktail menu and professional service. Enjoyed kale salad. Small plates were larger than expected. Very tasty black cod, mixed seafood grill was tasty too. Tuna was nicely seared. Dessert was good. View over ocean would have been nice if we'd gotten there before sunset."

  • "We were a guest at the hotel casa del mar ... Which was excellent. I was hoping the Sunday brunch at Catch would be as excellent as the hotel it was in, but sadly this was not the case. The view is amazing. But that's where the good ends. The food tasted like hotel food; uninspired, under seasoned and not hot. And the service? Our waiter disappeared after bringing our food. We never got coffee refills (until I literally got up and grabbed the bus boy from another table). And the extra sauce we asked for never came. Definitely stay in the hotel... A five star experience for sure. But go out for brunch. Don't bother eating at Catch."

  • "This was the perfect location for a nice dinner. I took a friend who had just returned to the United States from performing internationally as a jazz chanteuse. The environment is beautiful....the food options wonderful....and the wine was delicious.....all made for great conversation and an opportunity to catch up among friends."

  • "Reserved for girlfriends birthday, had made some special requests for the occasions and everything I requested was provided. The ambiance was very nice and the food was very good, definitely a great place to go for dinner, brunch or just to hang out. They have live music especially on Saturday and a nice lounge area as well, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. I will be back...JT"

  • "My friends and I arrived an hour early for our dinner reservation so we could sit in the comfy lounge and enjoy the sunset views of the beach/ocean. While the specialty cocktail was decent, we especially enjoyed the happy hour oysters and ambience! We then moved to the restaurant where we enjoyed some great appetizers (steamed mussels were THE BEST...and I'm not really a shellfish person!) and eventually some very good entrees (the ribeye and the two kinds of fish were awesome). The jazz/bossa nova band provided great background music and entertainment after dinner, and our waiter Matt was patient and took very good care of us."
