A word from Catch
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.

To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.

Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

My husband ordered the salmon, I ordered the special with 3 giant shrimp and 3 scallops on a bed of lentils. We also had the red/yellow beet salad, side of broccolini, and bread pudding with butter pecan ice cream. Every dish was prepared to perfection. Our waiter was outstanding. Each course was presented beautifully and synchronized well. Our waiter deserves special appreciation for his recommendations, for checking in, and approachable demeanor.

first time at Catch and was a wonderful dining experience, great food, good ambiance. Will definitely go back and will recommend to friends. one note and a growing peeve of ours as we dine out almost everywhere these days is the wait staff's hovering to take away our dishes or to repeatedly ask if we are done when there is food still on the plate or we are just relaxing between bites(we wonder if there is a new restaurant waiter instruction training for this or do they only have a limited number of dishes in the establishment that they have to recycle quickly) but it is annoying and can interupt the dining experience. Was not as bad here at Catch but did have to remind them at one point that we were still working on the food

I went with a group of 6 people. We started with appetizers: tuna tartare and a dozen oysters. For entrees: two people ordered the mixed seafood stew; one ordered the mixed grill with one, swordfish and salmon; I ordered braised short rib with risotto; one had beet salad with additional shrimp and one ordered the mahi-mahi special. Everyone was highly satisfied with the appetizers and their entrees. The giants game was on the TV in the bar, but it wasn't excessively boisterous. There was also live entertainment for part of the evening on the baby grand piano up in a loft above the dining area. It was surprising that it was pretty easy to get a reservation on a Saturday night, but this place was solid and I would return.

The dishes are all unique. the dishes start off basic and then they add a modern element to them. We had the seafood grill. Three different broiled fishes, served over white beans in a tomato base sauce. Very good. it allowed the fish to be the star of the dish. A little bit of something for everyone. They had a piano player, which was a nice surprise. The place is a bit load so do not expect to go there on a romantic date. Parking is a bit of problem, take public transportation.

I took 3 friends for dinner, this is a place that has outdoor dining, and we were seated with our backs to everything, and a good view of which ever of the 2 couples that dined at the table inside the window we faced looking into the Restaurant. I was seated where the servers had to pass between my chair and the person behind me constantly. We also had a great view of the servers station. Fortunately we had not been together in over a year so we were busy talking. They had already been seated when I arrived so I didn't try to move tables wish I had. I had the pan fried Rainbow Trout, I was up at 4:20am with the Aztec 2-Step. Beware the pan fried Trout...it might give you the trots.

I had rizotto thing - it was a tad too creamy for my taste but portion was big enough and well presented. The wine was excellent at a pretty standard price point for the area per glass. Service was just perfect from the maitre d' hotel to the table service team - great. We had a birthday and they presented a fine creme brule as a treat. Thanks for that touch.

We are big fans of Catch, so this was not our first visit. We had a reservation at 6 p.m., before heading downtown to the theater, and this was not a problem at all. The table in the front room was as pleasant as ever and the service was excellent. We split a Caesar salad and loved it. I am hooked on the short ribs, so I had that for my entree and thoroughly enjoyed again. Delicious!

I usually have dinner at Cath on my birthday and one other occasion during the year for special occasions, and usually have a great time. However, it was disappointing on 9/26/2014. Although I made reservations onlnie, we were seated at a small table right between where the space separates the main dining room from were the food is picked up and many people, including the Catch staff had to turn sideways from bumping into our table while walking to and from the area. Very distracting. Also, I always order the seafood stew. This time, the fish was cut into little bitsy pieces, and the shrimp was tiny.

It had been quite a while since we'd been to Catch and hadn't been there for brunch. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, the service was slow and wait staff was pretty un-attentive. As for the food, my frittata would have been completely bland had it not been for the oil they used to cook it. All 3 in our party felt they need to step up their game as far as the quality of the brunch food.

This is my boyfriends favorite restaurant! We live in the bay area but this is always our dinner pick when out in the city. He always gets the seafood stew, the broth is amazing and it has plenty of different kinds of seafood in it. We always sit by the fire pit they have in the middle of the outdoor/indoor area. A bottle of wine always to enjoy and the staff is very friendly! LOVE THIS PLACE!

I have eaten several times at Catch. While the ambiance is inviting, the food is mediocre and the service is downright poor. On this last occasion, our server didn't approach our table until we had been seated for 10 minutes. After bringing us waters, it was another 10 minutes before he came to take our order. Our food arrived before our drinks and we had to ask another server to bring us bread because our waiter never checked on us. My drink was overly sweet and I had to catch the eye of the maitre'd to remedy the drink situation. Besides bad service, the food here is really only mediocre. Unfortunately for them, they are in San Francisco - a real foodie town - where they suffer from too much good restaurant competition.

A really busy, atmospheric restaurant and bar. Situated in the Castro this restaurant happily accommodates a diverse clientele; there is nothing intimidating here for the "straight" community or for those dining with children. The cocktails are exciting and delicious, the mixed fish grill was very good and the aha tuna starter outstanding. There was a choice of 4 oysters and the waiter was enthusiastic in his description of the differences. There are plenty of other options on the menu if fish is not your thing so don't let the name put you off if you are a confirmed carnivore.

Our old standby the 'sushi roll' still the most delicious appetizer! And with a generous Grey Goose Martini...YUM! A new fish entree, Yellow tail, cooked (like all of Catch's fish entrees) to perfection. And dont be shy, ask for their amazing risotto on any entree dish...they will substitute...it's the best. We love Catch....we are greeted like family there..the staff has been on board for years, and years...how many restaurants can say that! Catch, continues to deliver, month after month, year after year!

I consider Catch to be my neighborhood joint, so I never have high expectations when I arrive. Boy I better change my attitude. Meals here are always exceptional. My dinner there this week was the day's special--Hawaiian butterfish sautéed and drizzled with a lemon caper sauce. It had a rich and buttery texture and a little pepper bite. Perfect. I also recommend the Red and Golden Beet Salad and a wonderful Chocolate and Vanilla Creme Brûlée. Mmm good.

For the SF Foodie. The dishes were beautiful & the ingredients were fresh. But the price & service I experienced didn't stack up to my expectations. The service was slow & our waiter was a face I didn't remember - he was so rarely involved in our experience. Other waiters came by to ask about our dishes & to apologize for the wait, but consideration can only allow for so much. We waited at least 15min for each dish to arrive. A request for extra toast for our mussels took 10min. When we wanted more cocktails, we couldn't flag anyone down. The uni pasta was not memorable apart from being overly salted. Looking for a great dining experience at $75 per head? Look elsewhere. If you're curious though, you'll only need to go once to understand.
