A word from Catch
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.

To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.

Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

  • "Hadn't been to Catch in a while, but my friend, D, had a Groupon so we went. The sushi appetizer was so tasty and just the thing to get the meal started with our cocktails. My fish and chips were expertly done, with such a light batter on the fish and tasty chips! D's squid ink pasta and scallops were cooked just right and full of flavor too. We were too full for dessert! A very nice evening, indeed. Thanks Catch!"

Both were excellent. The fish was very well prepared and was clearly very fresh. Sides were interesting and also tasty. Good wine list and, on Tuesday's, all full bottles are half priced. Not a bad deal all around."

It was prepared with a blanket of braised greens and grilled vegetables. it was excellent. Among the grilled vegetables was grilled cauliflower with just the right amount of browning. I would hope this grilled cauliflower becomes a side dish in the future."

It was easy to get to and in a wonderful building. We shared sushi for starters which was simply perfect and then had the fish broth and rainbow trout for mains. The food was rich but worth every penny and would highly recommend."

  • "Recently had dinner at Catch. A lovely place. We enjoyed our appetizers of mussels in a coconutty broth and tender artichokes. Our desserts were bread pudding with butter pecan ice cream and apple tart with the same. Enjoyed it all. However, when it came to our main courses, we were left wanting. The flavors just weren't there. Our choices were the fish stew, roast trout, and sea bass. The stew had a good flavor but not much seafood, the roast trout was swimming in an oily sauce, the bass was just acceptable. We're likely to give Catch another try, because the overall evening was nice, but we'll choose other main courses next time."

  • "We last went to Catch 5 years ago and really was let down. We decided to try it again, for brunch and was once again terribly let down. It certainly isn't a place that you would want to go out of your way to go to. Food was mediocre at best (my date called it a fancy overpriced Denny's), the brunch selections were unimaginative and the service was just slow from the moment we arrived until we were finally able to pay our bill. Our server was unaware that they were out of particular items (such as pizza dough) and although there were only 2 diners, our food came out 9 minutes apart… We just simply have too many amazing restaurants in SF to waste time at this one."

Both lunch and dinner have proven delightful. For lunch try the salmon BLT or the seafood salad. For dinner, start with the artichoke and move on to almost any fish plate. I like mussels myself."

  • "We arrived right at 5:30 when they open. After a short wait we were given a table in the window by the fireplace. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. We started with two appetizers the fried jalea seafood (very crunchy) and the tempura arthichoke (seemed like the same batter not light like tempura.) With all the fried food we shared the arugula salad and saved room for dessert-the BEST part. We had thebrioche and french bread pudding topped with the butter pecan ice cream (gelato.) Scrumptious! I would go back just for that. The piano begins playing up above which is lovely and unusual. We had a Groupon to use too, so all in all a great deal! The atmosphere with the lighting and the fireplace made it very cozy and enjoyable."
