A word from Catch
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.

To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.

Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

  • "As always this restaurant does not disappoint!! Had the fish ceviche, absolutely wonderful and flavorful! Lovely cocktails too!"

  • "I guess I had remembered Catch as an OK restaurant, but I had not been there for a while. I was extremely pleased with the pan fried rainbow trout. It was prepared with a blanket of braised greens and grilled vegetables. it was excellent. Among the grilled vegetables was grilled cauliflower with just the right amount of browning. I would hope this grilled cauliflower becomes a side dish in the future."

  • "The new menu is fabulous...the Seafood Napolean and Ceviche appetizers are out of this world...And they brought back my old fav...Black Cod with Udon noodles in a yummy bread sopping broth........ Great Scene on Friday nights too.........Catch remains 'the' place in the neighborhood! We love it!"

  • "The food here is consistently good. The greeter is ususally the same gentleman ho immediately sets a nice tone. He and our server ere most gracious when e requested to change tables this past Sunday so he could sit at the very front of the patio area."

  • "Pretty place. Good food good service. But else can I say This is the 3rd time we have been."

  • "Fish was spot on and cooked to perfection and the accompanying sides were top notch. Wine selections were fitting for an establishment of this size. Unfortunately, the artichoke appetizer was a disappointment and quite a chore to eat...maybe we should have chosen another less troubling dish. Great idea, but maybe not so great execution. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband and I love Catch and go there regularly. Great food, cocktails and wine. Easy to book on OpenTable and secure last minute reservations although the place is always hopping. I went there the other night with a girlfriend and had a great time. Highly recommend."

  • "Our table of four could not hear each other without shouting so conversation was impossible. We gave up after an hour and left. I have been there many times over the years but it no longer works for aging people."

  • "We are from London and wanted to find somewhere lovely for a meal on our last day in San Francisco. We found this restaurant on Groupon ($20 for $40) and we're very glad we did. It was easy to get to and in a wonderful building. We shared sushi for starters which was simply perfect and then had the fish broth and rainbow trout for mains. The food was rich but worth every penny and would highly recommend."

  • "always has good seafood, not the very best but in the top 10 halibut and ceviche are delicious the seafood stew was interesting always a friendly staff, would highly recommend trying while dining in the castro"

  • "I had not been here in quite awhile but recently my sister was visiting from out-of-town and she had never been there so we went to Catch for lunch. I was reminded that the food was very good with very adequate portions. It is also a good experience for me being hearing impaired as the restaurant was not that busy at lunchtime so I had an easier time hearing my sister who has a soft voice."

  • "They did it again...outstanding food, the chef's ceviche of the day ...out of this world! ...Squid Ink pasta with fresh scallops...cant even describe it and the cauliflower pure with a fresh scallop...again outstanding and just excellent service...we just keep coming back for more...."

  • "Recently had dinner at Catch. A lovely place. We enjoyed our appetizers of mussels in a coconutty broth and tender artichokes. Our desserts were bread pudding with butter pecan ice cream and apple tart with the same. Enjoyed it all. However, when it came to our main courses, we were left wanting. The flavors just weren't there. Our choices were the fish stew, roast trout, and sea bass. The stew had a good flavor but not much seafood, the roast trout was swimming in an oily sauce, the bass was just acceptable. We're likely to give Catch another try, because the overall evening was nice, but we'll choose other main courses next time."

  • "We last went to Catch 5 years ago and really was let down. We decided to try it again, for brunch and was once again terribly let down. It certainly isn't a place that you would want to go out of your way to go to. Food was mediocre at best (my date called it a fancy overpriced Denny's), the brunch selections were unimaginative and the service was just slow from the moment we arrived until we were finally able to pay our bill. Our server was unaware that they were out of particular items (such as pizza dough) and although there were only 2 diners, our food came out 9 minutes apart… We just simply have too many amazing restaurants in SF to waste time at this one."

  • "All the food we ordered was very good, with a large variety of fish available. The vibe was lively but not too loud for conversation. Nice mix of people. Terrific waiter with a big welcoming smile. Have been here several times and will return."

  • "What's not to love about Catch: good food, courteous and discreet wait staff, fire pit, one wall open to street on warm sunny days, and relatively easy street parking. Both lunch and dinner have proven delightful. For lunch try the salmon BLT or the seafood salad. For dinner, start with the artichoke and move on to almost any fish plate. I like mussels myself."

  • "Met friends for dinner.. first time dining experience at Catch. Sat by the indoor/outdoor front section of the restaurant. Great street scene... but not noisy. Good lighting, comfortable table arrangement, excellent service, and extremely good food. Definitely recommend the bass ceviche. They make a nice Manhattan, too! Terrific spot."

  • "I always enjoy meals here. The service is always outstanding. Food is always good and well prepared and promptly served. In the evenings on the weekends there is a wonderful pianist to provide a wide variety of music."

  • "We were at the Film Festival and we were late to the reservation and sadly needed to eat within a rushed 45 minute window; everyone from the host, the waiter and all of the staff were outstanding. The food was great and nicely plated. We had two courses in the window of time and it was outstanding. All of us said that we would come back again when we were less rushed."

  • "We arrived right at 5:30 when they open. After a short wait we were given a table in the window by the fireplace. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. We started with two appetizers the fried jalea seafood (very crunchy) and the tempura arthichoke (seemed like the same batter not light like tempura.) With all the fried food we shared the arugula salad and saved room for dessert-the BEST part. We had thebrioche and french bread pudding topped with the butter pecan ice cream (gelato.) Scrumptious! I would go back just for that. The piano begins playing up above which is lovely and unusual. We had a Groupon to use too, so all in all a great deal! The atmosphere with the lighting and the fireplace made it very cozy and enjoyable."

  • "This is 1st time we dined in Catch. Loved the earthy vinaigrette on the warm squid salad. My main dish - sauteed blue talapia, tarragon risotto, white corn, asparagus, truffle vinaigrette was out of the world, so much flavor!"

  • "Kitchen does a superb job with a neighboehood style menu geared for people who spend their paychecks on this dining night out. Drinks and wine are grossly overpriced. A couple of the waiters are snooty yet the clientele tips heavily all the while the owners gouge them all the way to the bank. Food and drink are good, but overpriced. Catch is a reminder rhat the bubble needs to pop and even the playing field"

  • "Good food, but pretty steep prices for just good food. I wouldn't categorize it as a fine dining experience, but I think the bill came out to be in that ballpark. Really packed on the Friday night, even with reservations. Good service though."

  • "Another great meal at Catch...swordfish, halibut, they have all, cooked to perfection and easily the best risotto in town. Now a new wine list with some excellent new selections. Everyone knows everyone there, it is a just our fav in the neighborhood. Ron, Todd, Tyler, and of course Sanjay! Bravo!"

  • "Used a Groupon to try Catch, and so very pleased! We went early on a Friday evening, and snagged a table on the porch right next to the fireplace on a rainy evening! Oysters on the half shell were super fresh, and I followed it with the seafood stew which was amazing! Huge portion, and loaded with seafood! We had amazing service, it was my friends birthday, and we were able to take our time and felt no rush! Definitely will return, great Neighborhood gem!"
