A word from Catch
Located firmly within San Francisco's Castro district, 2362 Market Street is steeped in city history. Here, Catch makes its mark in a storefront registered as an official city landmark that originally housed the burgeoning NAMES Project, which famously organized the creation of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The history remains with the building, but Catch aims to create a new legacy while honoring the spirit of creativity and expression rooted in its surroundings.

To foster this spirit, the chefs rotate their menus regularly, accommodating seasonal produce and fresh catches of local, sustainably sourced seafood. Each dish showcases these ingredients while incorporating Mediterranean influences and minimalist Californian sensibilities toward composition and presentation.

Since opening in October 2002, Catch is the perfect place to gather for every occasion – handcrafted artisanal cocktails and appetizers at the bar, a cozy romantic dinner for two by the fireplace.

Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was delicious! I ordered the salmon medium rare, which was perfectly cooked and the presentation looked like an art piece. My favorite dish though was our mussel appetizer. The mussels were in a coconut meat sauce, which had the perfect amount of spices. The host recommended that we sit in the patio area right next to the fire pit, since it was our firt time there. It made the experience that much more enjoyable."

  • "Food is always great. Location and ambiance are wonderful. Service is efficient but completely impersonal. Host, waiter, bartender give the impression of just checking the boxes, engaging with customers as little as is necessary. Definitely an us/them, staff vs. customer mentality."

  • "Four of us went to Catch for dinner. We were promptly seated at the window. Our server was pleasant and prompt. Everyone loved their appetizers and main courses. I just had the fish & chips which was perfectly cooked. The French fries were crisp and tasty - as good as I've had anyway. Everyone liked their cocktails or wine and I liked the lemonade - just the right combination of tartness and sweetness. Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert. We will continue to come back."

  • "THE place to go in The Castro or in most of SF for amazing fresh fish, world class risotto, great martinis and a wonderful domestic wine list. Staff are like old friends, beautiful asthetic........piano player...BANANA SPLITS....always love CATCH!"

  • "Everything was delicious, and I felt like I could have eaten many of the dishes-great choices. Service was great, ambiance was lovely. We will definitely be back!"

  • "A regular stop for us because the food is consistently excellent, with great seafood/fish choices and salads. Menu is quite diverse though so there's something for everyone. Staff always friendly, welcoming, and they generally remember you've been there before (a good sign), and service is always good. On a busy film festival Friday they found a way to get us in, seated us early, and service was attentive, prompt, efficient despite the crowded dining room."

  • "I'm not sure of what to say. I was late my date was on time, our party of two became four and host made the increase in party size not a problem. Our waiter let us taste a few wines to pair with our dinner. We even got to have two items that were not on the dine about town menu. Oh have the Cevieche if don't have anything else and have it twice its just that good."

  • "excellent service, friendly and a superb menu, great wine list and very nice atmosphere. Plus the meals were excellent and right of the grill, hot and tasty. I enjoy dining there and take out my out of town visitor there. A true gem in the Castro"

  • "My friends and I ordered a variety of appetizers and Entres and Found them all amazing. The fish was all impeccably cooked and flavored, and our waitor was extremely friendly. Over all would definitely reccommend this place- not super fancy but great food and reasonable prices."

  • "It's hard to find the best words to describe how amazing our experience was at Catch. The ambiance was terrific, the service was perfect, and the food was absolutely stellar! The waitor was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. For an appetizer at Catch, you must order the Napoleon! My husband and I wanted to order more it was soo good!! You must visit this place for great seafood in San Francisco!"

  • "Initially came for Done About Town but decided the regular menu had more goodies to offer. I went with the Seafood Stew and it was alright -- was missing a kick or salt. But my Cabernet definitely made up for it -- my waiter went right with his recommendation! My partner ordered the squid noodles which were fantastic! Would go back and eat more."

  • "Usually one of our favorite restaurants in SF but was disappointed on this visit. We have gone multiple times since restaurant first opened. Our first disappointment came when they informed us corkage fee price went from $7 to $20! How outrageous! Not even a small increase. One of the things that originally attracted us to restaurant was reasonably priced corkage fee. So I felt they were just being greedy like others. In addition, they removed our fav. dish of lobster fettuccine from the menu. Finally, I was celebrating a friend's birthday and nothing special done for occasion. At a min. place a candle on dessert or even comp the dessert. It's not like meal was inexpensive. Bill was almost $110 for 2 people. Food good overall esp. oyster ap"

  • " I arrived slightly early for my 7 p. m. reservation, and was promptly seated. I waited for my dinner companion for 15, 20 minutes, only to discover that she had arrived at 7 p. m., and was told by the host that he didn't have my name down. She spelled my first and last name. Nope, not here, no reservation. Finally I spotted her at the host station. I recounted this to one of the wait staff, the only one not in uniform, and he said breezily, oh well. Later I asked the host person about it, and he said he never looked at the reservation list. This was an appalling and inexplicable lapse, and I don't even remember an apology. The food was very good, we had the seafood napoleon, the beet salad, the mussels, all very good. "

  • "I picked this place because of the location and because of the varied menu because one of our companions is a picky eater. I though the food was o.k., not great. There are too many high quality restaurants, even in the area, so I'm not sure I'd go back. Also, I hate to say this, but I thought our server looked a little too unkempt (maybe even a little grubby) to be out on the floor serving food to people. Wasn't impressed with the atmosphere, but then we were there just for lunch and it was pretty empty at 1:00 p.m. That may have had an affect on the ambience."

  • "The short ribs over the risotto with mushrooms and kale was incredible!!!... We will definitely order it again the next time we go back. The mixed seafood special was also nicely done. We started off with the tasty tangerine margarita that snuck up on me as I barely tasted the tequila. The ceviche was great! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive (but not obnoxiously so). We will be back again (this was our second time eating there). "

  • "The food was very good and the service was outstanding. We had the mussels and the short ribs and they were damn good. Tyler did everything in his power to take care of us. When I come back to San Francisco we will be dining there again"

  • "Had the seafood salad as well as the vegetable sides and all looked and tasted fresh. Ordered the salmon "pizza" only to find that it's not really pizza dough, but rather a matzah-type cracker bread that's under the toppings.....if you like your food very crunchy then you might like this....I didn't and asked that they take it back which they did with no hesitation, another sign of a good restaurant. Overall a nice experience. "

  • "The food was tasty and presented well. However the service was very rushed and overbearing. We hadn't finished our soup before the main course arrived and the waiter couldn't wait to get us out of the door at the end. I understand wanting to turn over the table during busy dining hours but this was 6pm on a Monday evening and the restaurant wasn't full."

  • "We had the halibut starting with mushroom soup. The soup was probably the best we have ever had. The Halibut was delicious. The service was just ok. The waiter acted more like a "server" than a true waiter. We had to pour our own wine. For such great food, it deserves better trained wait staff."

  • "We were looking for a place in SF that was convenient but not common but we also like unique places that have a wonderul selection. When "Catch" popped up on our search I thought mature and common. However, the location, menu, and time slot fit the requirement. In the end we were pleasantly surprised with the ambience and the food. We started with the grilled artichoke (awesome with the grenache blanc we brought), the beet salad and the baby heirloom & watercress salads were perfect for sharing but the grilled blue nose bass with fennel and pureed parsnips were absolutely marvelous. The service was decent but we'll be back for the food. Well done Catch!"

  • "Nice laid back place. Parking is hard to find, can take bart but a three quarters of a mile walk. Fresh seafood is good, but they have beef, chicken and a vegetarian option for other diners. Place is a little too loud. Has several different kinds of fresh fish on the menu. Standard salmon is good, but you have a chance to try others like blue nose bass, ono, and trout."
